I work with people that have dementia, so I’m primed to prefer Away from Her. It’s a devastating, box of tissues kind of film. It’s also the most realistic and respectful treatment of dementia I’ve seen. Too often dementia gets played as crazy or insane. This film treats the tragedy of dementia with dignity, respect, and beauty.

I love Adam very much so it brings me no joy to say this but I think Atonement is an awful movie that shouldn't be within spitting distance of this tournament. Away From Her in a walk.

Easy one for me. I'm not sure people realise it yet, but 2007 is the new 1999.
That said, as much as I love 'Away from her', if you manage to stay on everybody's radar in a year that gave us masterpieces such as 'There will be blood' and 'No country for old men' and have grown in stature since then, you sure do deserve all the recognition you can get.
Besides, 'Atonement' presented us with Saorsie Ronan and Wright's best film to date.
To quote Briony, "I saw it with my own eyes" and it was gorgeous!

Atonement is a beautiful, amazingly big movie that manages to stay small at the same time. Away from her is certainly a good movie but for me Atonement is in the top 5 for the 2000s

    Sheesh....
First pairing of the whole contest and I can’t imagine we will see a matchup I’ll have more trouble with.
I suspect the brick will prevail. So I’m giving the mindbender my love.
I’ll hate it no matter which way this goes and I’ll also be relieved that one of them is continuing on. (And that it won’t likely get harder than this to choose.)

  • No contest. Away From Her should run away with this poll. Plus, the bracket will me much richer with a touch of CanCon (Canadian content)...

I loathe ATONEMENT, the book and the movie. Give me Sarah Polley ripping my heart out over Joe Wright's bombastic period work any day (but not every day, woof).

Pouring one out for "I'm Not There,' my favorite movie of 2007.
