While I don't like it, there is only one solution. Unfortunately, as Joe Bower has pointed out in a number of posts, seceding is near impossible. The Master declaration would need to be amended. That means ALL Somersett would get to vote. You really think that our neighbors in Somersett would vote to reduce SOA's income by 25-35%? That would increase their assessments accordingly. The only thing SOA pays for within SC is trail maintenance, and that has only been going on for the last 2-3 years!
It is time to admit that if you can't beat them, join them. Joe has already pointed out the advantages, one board, one lawyer, one set of contracts for landscaping/management. That type of consolidation could only save everyone money.
The only hitch is to negotiate changes to the master agreement which would assure the current status of the lodge for use by SC residents only, and similarly for the town center.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to secede from Somersett. The City would have to approve and it WON’T.
As I have mentioned, the PUD made by the City and the developer (Blake Smith) requires Somersett to include an active adult community. While the PUD can be revised (slightly), the intent of the developer and the City was that Somersett include an active adult community and that will not be done away with.
The active adult community is Somersett Village 5 and Sierra Canyon makes up Village 5. There will always be a Village 5. There is no requirement that Village 5 be a sub-association. Hence it can be dissolved.
We need to dissolve our association and be a part of Somersett like all the rest of it, except for The Vue and The Village subs and they need to join with us and dissolve theirs too. JGB

I am pleased to see the current vote, knowing I am not alone in wanting to secede from the SOA. The time to try to work things out has passed. They had their chance and blew it. I dont know if it will come to pass, but if we dont go for it, who will?

Totally dissolve all relations with SOA. Del Webb's Sierra Canyon was sold as, and is, a retirement community. Be free of paying for the maintenance of a community that contains much larger and more expensive homes than are found in Del Webb. Stop being a cash cow for SOA. Lets be what we are .... a Retirement Community, not a support mechanism for the rich, or a thoroughfare for their drive to work. As one wise politician has said .... let's build a wall. Put a gate on the upper entrance. I don't know about anyone else, but I've had my fill of construction workers and large trucks. We've all worked very hard for the opportunity to live in a wonderful community where it's safe, quiet, and cost effective. We'll be more than willing to pay for our issues, but not those of other's. Yes SOA, you're the "others".
