They changed to a new format at Hot Air and lost many,many posters ,now a lot of folk don't bother to go there anymore !

I'd recommend adding bbPress or Simple:Forum forum as the commenting system. It integrates fully with WordPress and creates a forum topic for each post in Wordpress.

Is getting rid of Soops an option? The guy makes me laugh and this is supposed to be a serious website. ;-)
