I just poured a gallon of expired apple cider over my head.

When Machado was with Baltimore he caused a pin worm infestation. That is minus 2 WAR right there.

  • Smelly - 5 years ago

It's a bargain if you pay the value of his avg WAR over his career

300 million is to much money for a stinky farts type of guy like Machado. Harpers farts don’t stink.

  • SocraticGadfly - 5 years ago

What the naysayers overlook is that his D should help settle down a bunch of young pitchers.

  • Patrick - 5 years ago

I don’t get how 70% of you guys said that 300M is an overpay for a top 10 position player that’s only 26...

Isn't it true the Padres are changing uniforms next season?

Essentially meaning they may get 1.5x - 2x the jersey sales with Machado's name on the back over the next 2 years.

Reds 3B Suarez better fielder and better stats is signed for 7 years for 66M

Overpaid blowhard hotdog!! Wouldn’t rub two wooden nickels together for him. Not to mention/add this is the last place Padres he went to, so there’s that too. ????????

  • Sally saltgrass - 5 years ago

This is a huge bargain for the padres. 30k a year is less than I make as a pickle packer,

  • Steve trapeziums - 5 years ago

Manny Machado reminds me of a recurring hemorrhoidal flare up.

  • Bob butterman - 5 years ago

Severe overpay! Machado is known to irritate his teammates by leveling off sulphuric smelling gassy milky farts. You can do that much cheaper by signing Gordon Beckham. He also farts up the dugout. Between Hosmer and Machado the Padres clubhouse will smell like 7-11 restroom.

  • Richard W Johnson - 5 years ago

Look the Cubs learned their lesson with Heyward, plus the ticket prices, beer, hot dogs are going up so much that personally I can't afford to go to a Cubs game anymore. This will soon be a problem for MLB IMO.

  • Math - 5 years ago

Machado has been worth over 30 WAR already and hasn't even hit his prime. He will exceed the salary in early years and likely underperform relative to his salary in later years. He could reasonably produce 40-50 WAR over the length of the contract, well over $300 million worth in FA$.

  • Math - 5 years ago

    Machado has been worth

  • ER130R - 5 years ago

Dylan has spoken. Might as well close the poll.

  • Sufferfortribe - 5 years ago

Glad my Indians now won’t have to face him over and over. Thank you, San Diego.

  • Malachi - 5 years ago

Absolutely no player is worth this kind of money, teams are better off going with young guys in their system than breaking the bank for one player. Machado and Bryce can’t win a World Series by themselves, these players are greedy and the owners are brain dead.

  • Mike Doherty - 5 years ago

Padres just bought a major headache. Eventually they'll have to send a boat load of cash to to some team to exile him from their clubhouse. Machado's ego isn't big enough for San Diego

  • Troutaholic - 5 years ago

Option after the 5th year . he has a reason not to play good or eve Run to First and collect 30 Billion for 10 Years Straight . and Knowing he hates to run Period and the fences in San Diego are farther than in LA or Washington . he might need to unless they move them in and he can Walk around the diamond and get fat for being that way.Bad Deal period!

  • Tom Daly - 5 years ago

He will exceed the value of the contract by 15% or more

  • martras - 5 years ago

Based on the current market, it sure seems like Machado's contract was an overpay, though reports of the White Sox's final offer being 8yrs, $250M guaranteed and up to $100M more in options and achievement bonuses means Machado was willing to leave potential money on the table.

  • Adam - 5 years ago

Overpaid. The Padres never would have been able to land him without overpaying him.

  • Dylan - 5 years ago

Anyone who thinks this is an overpay is an idiot, and doesn't know what they are talking about.
