My memory is that I voted against Moon in the play-in, but I voted for it here. While Javier Bardem was great in No Country, the movie was otherwise minor Coen brothers.

I have a feeling "No Country" is going to dominate a little more than it should in this tournament. "A Serious Man" is a better Coen-led exploration of existential dread, and "There Will Be Blood" is a better probe to the dark heart of the brutal direct and ambient violence which permeates the very fabric of American life. For my money, at least. But it's certainly in a different league than Moon and 70%~ of the rest of this list, so I won't grind my teeth too much unless it wins the whole thing.
I have fond memories of seeing No Country For Old Men in the theater as a matinee in November of 2007. I remember thinking "This is probably the greatest movie I'll ever see in a theater. I'm really grateful I got to see this"
I watched Moon on an off brand MP3 player in a coffee shop in 2009. It gave me a panic attack.
No Country FTW.

I have always respected No Country, and have respected it more on subsequent rewatches, but it's never registered above just being a solid entry into the Coens' canon. Moon strikes me as the more ambitious, engaging film, and while I've seen No County more times, if I had to choose which to watch right now it's be Moon.

lol at people pretending this is a hard choice. "moon" is pretty good for a debut, but not more.

Moon is wonderful, I votes for it in the pre-play, but No Country is a masterpiece, Joel and Ethan firing on all cylinders. An Oscar got it right year and the winner.

Well, at least the first match out of the gate is an easy one. Moon is so, so good, but No Country is No Country. Few can stand against it.

I am just glad MOON won its play-in, but uh, yeah, so welcome to the party, pal.

Moon is great and all but come on. I will be shocked if No Country isn't a finalist.

How can it be this hard in the 1st round already? I love No Country, and I have to go with it. But it's by no means clear that it's a better film than Moon. No Country gives us adrenaline, despair, chaos and the pointlessness of life. But Moon shows us the value and dignity of life for all people. And it's just so trippy and weird. Argh! I take it back, I can't decide.

This match up pains me. Moon is one of my favorite space films—certainly one of my favorite Sam Rockwell performances. It could have stood a chance for a second round against some of these lower seed films! curses.
This is a mean matchup. It’s like asking “who is more important to you: your favorite cousin or your Dad?” Moon might be my favorite cousin, but I have to go with the Old Man.

All due respect to Moon, but it never stood a chance against the likely finalist.

Two surprising, uncompromising features. I find Moon more satisfying, friendo. Henrik Hansen, Yalding Kent UK

Goodnight, Moon.
