Royal Tenenbaums, the needle in the hay scene alone deserves this spot

Not a fan of either picture. I think Tenebaums is a film where all of Anderson's peculiarities are just irritating, and 25th Hour seems to be a movie that would benefit for more of Spike's. That said, 35th Hour's moments of insight are more affecting and memorable, so my vote goes to that.

Easy one. Spike all the way. The love/hate relationship with a post-9/11 NYC was incredibly prescient.

Tenenbaums, this is barely worth the contest!

This is an easy one for me, 25th Hour all the way (sorry Josh), but I have no idea how this is going to go over with the rest of Filmspotting Nation.

The Royal Tenenbaums was a huge leap forward for Wes from Rushmore and Bottle Rocket. It is still my absolute favorite Anderson film (only Moonrise Kingdom comes close). The 25th Hour is a film that I liked but which I still have qualms with, especially because stylistically Spike Lee is starting to repeat himself (all of those to the camera monologues about race were in Do The Right Thing after all). Tenenbaums for me and it's not close.

This is by far the toughest matchup, but I would like to applaud you guys putting in the 25th hour. It is spikes most underrated film. A post 9/11 movie that captured the fact that most people hadn't figured out how to process it yet, and that was ok. It may not make it through but that just means I'm excited that I get to watch it this week!

I’ll just leave my annual “ Sorry Josh, but I think Wes Anderson is overrated” comment here.

Tennenbaums. it were "Inside Man", this would have been harder!
