This was a surprisingly tough match-up for me. I glanced at it and thought, well of course the frivolity and improv silliness of Anchorman is no match for the overflowing heart of Almost Famous. But those are the same elements that make Anchorman THE defining comedy for a generation, and certainly a bellwether for the mainstreaming of absurdist comedy. I don't think Dan Harmon would have a career without the benefit of a post-Anchorman market, for example.
Shocking even myself with this one, but I gotta give it to Anchorman.

When I think about the funniest scenes in Anchorman, I giggle without fail. When I think about the most memorable scenes in Almost Famous, I roll my eyes. Anchorman all the way.

This one hurts. I’m still in a state of unbelief that Anchorman didn’t rank at all in your lists of 00s comedies, considering it was the very first title that popped into my head and would have easily been my #1 with a bullet. It’s an absurdist masterpiece. THAT SAID, Almost Famous vibes with me like few movies do. It’s by far Crowe’s best work and even though its edges are soft and the nostalgia cloyes from time to time, the heart and craft marry beautifully. It was my #3 of its decade, and I have to go with it here.

Anchorman is one of the smartest "stupid" movies released this century; Almost Famous is just plain stupid. Let's leave boring baby boomer fantasies in the '00s, please.

Almost Famous, is in my opinion, exceedingly overrated. Give me Anchorman every time

Shame that some of the other 64 have to fall while one of these advances...

I don't love either, but I guess if it comes down to it I quote Anchorman all the time and I generally don't think about Almost Famous that often, so in terms of impact I have to stay classy, San Diego.

I go into a theater and see these are the only two movies playing. After a long internal debate I head to Anchorman, but then a voice in my head says "Adam would be so disappointed…", so I immediately change course and go on the road with Stillwater.

Someone in Filmspotting central has criminally underrated Almost Famous. A 6 seed? really? Having to face Royal Tenebaums and No Country in a single bracket is cruel and unusual punishment.
What do you love about Almost Famous?
To begin with... everything.

Why. Why? WHY?!? My favorite movie against one of the best comedies ever. This is wrong and y'all will suffer...somehow...for this immediate battle.

How DARE you! Ron Burgundy vs Stillwater! WHY DO YOU HATE US! My wife and I fell in love seeing Almost Famous. It’s the greatest Cameron Crowe Movie. Sorry Ron, gotta go with William Miller.
