Before Sunset was the first of the Before films that I ever saw, I can't even remember why I bought it on DVD. But I immediately identified with the film, I felt like I'd personally had some or all some of the conversations between Jesse and Celine in this movie. It absolutely rocked me to see a film that felt so real and immediate and viscerally and specifically relevant to me. As a wannabe filmmaker (still working on it, taking the long way round through theater first), I devoured Adaptation and I appreciate the hell out of it. But I haven't thought about it in ages and Before Sunset is my favorite entry in the trilogy, so there you go.

Absolutely dreadful having to choose between these two! Adaptation isn't gonna be gone forever is it? .... is it??

Did I just vote against Nicolas Cage? No. I just voted against TWO Nicolas Cages! What am I doing?

What kind of monsters are you to put these up against each other? I feel like I'm being personally targeted by this match up. With that said, I give the slightest edge to Adaptation. I remember being shown it by my mom when I was in my early days of getting into film and it was one of the first examples I saw of Charlie Kaufman's love for meta weirdness.
Does this mean Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy won't adopt me anymore?

Adapation is THE film that got me into thinking about movies critically. It inspired me to write 1 and 3/4 terrible screenplays. I love it too much.

I think people will have a hard time separating Sunrise and Sunset in their minds (hearts?) and that will give Before the edge over Adaptation.

Before fans—please. You have Before Sunrise. Leave Adaptation alone!

For me, these are two deeply personal and perfect films that speak to dueling impulses of mine: the thought that I'll be able to find my perfect complement out there and will be confident enough to drop everything in my life for them VS the thought that the universe is so assuredly opposed to my happiness that even the characters in my own movie would publicly scream at me for suggesting I wanted to write the movie they're characters in. Incredible.
These are two movies I could talk about for hours, deus ex croc-ina and all. Ever since a recent watch of Before Sunset I've been wondering: Jesse having a 4 year old son named Henry and then immediately taking a river boat to Quai Henri IV means....... something. Right? And if you think the plot points of Adaptation are hard to explain, can you even imagine being Charlie Kaufman trying to explain to an author his vision for an adaptation of her book, when the film is this? I'm continually amazed that anyone agreed to make this movie.
Anyway, voting between these was way too difficult for me but in the end I voted for Adaptation. Before Sunset might be the better film but there is absolutely nothing else like Adaptation, and I can't stomach the thought of destroying it forever. Plus, I figured Before Sunset would win this one anyway so *shrug emoji*.
