This is a tough, tough choice. I'm one of the apologists for Wall-E's latter half - after all, it would be unfair to expect almost anything to live up to it. And The Departed certainly doesn't reach the immaculate goodness of that lonely robot love story. But hands down, The Departed has one of the most impressive scripts ever, delivered by some of Hollywood's finest actors and a director who at this point had become an American institution.

Were it only about how cherished or memorable a film was, Wall-E would have my vote. But The Departed just fits together so incredibly well, which is extra impressive given its scope and ambition. My vote goes to The Departed, though ask me again tomorrow and I might regret it.

I would have cared more about this question if it had been Infenal Affairs instead of The Departed.

    This one is ridiculous.

One film is about the effects of obsession in the face of insurmountable odds, while trying to define your place in a world split in two.

The other is one of the most pointless re-make ever, falling below the original in every aspect, adding only a Hayes code ending (in 2006).

Filmspotting listeners wouldn't kill the greatest cinematic romance... I hope. Wall-E all the way.

WALL-E is truly one of pixars finest, but The Departed helped shaped my cinematic language at a young age.

The Departed is pure Scorcese magic. But, the first half of Wall-E is absolutely perfect and the second half is much better than people give it credit for.

    Pixar for the win here.

The Departed is probably Top 3 Scorsese for me.

This was so close that by the time I'd read the comments I'd forgotten who I voted for! I think it was the Departed but now kindof wish it was WALL-E.

Just rewatched The Departed last weekend and was really struck by how great Damon and Dicaprio were. But there's nothing in The Departed that comes close to Eve and Wall-E dancing in space.

Both of these great films have hard-core flaws. WALL-E starts so strong, but can't carry that hot start, neither cinematically nor, more importantly, thematically and The Departed has Jack Nicholson in full scenery chewing mode and that damn on the nose thing with the rat. But I had to go with The Departed here because I am still wholly in the bag for the rest of the great performances in that film.

    I'm Buy N' Large!

The much maligned third act of Wall-E is better than anything in the departed. I think people write off everything that happens after Wall-E and Eva arrive the Axiom as bad just because the opening of the movie was so exquisitely crafted and unique. Is it just me or would it be impossible to maintain that tone from start to finish without getting really dark and bumming all the kids out? But there's a lot to like in the second half, there's the outer-space dance with the fire extinguisher, the broken robot's repair facility and cupcakes, in a cup. The only bad note is the injection of live action. It is still a masterpiece.

To me there is nothing original in the departed, the performances are terrible and it's screaming at me the whole time. It's got one good set piece with Sheen and the rooftop, I' give it that. I love Scorsese, but I think this is one of his worst films.
