Dude LOL the director even says they used drones right in the show (you obviously didn't even watch it). You gotta do a better job at reporting man..

Making the statement, 'it's illegal to fly a drone in a National Park', is not an answer. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's quite possible to fly over a
National park without launching from said park, I don't believe Yosemite owns or controls the air space above the park. One could launch from a helicopter or from outside the park legally. Whether either of these happen is beyond me, but non-answers bug me too.

The directors have stated in numerous interviews that the final aerial shot was done via a helicopter flying legally high above the allowed flight ceiling and shot with I believe a 1000 mm or 1500 mm lens. The crew filmed Alex practicing for a couple years at various locations and drones were used outside Yosemite while Alex was free soloing (mainly in Morocco). Jimmy Chin mentioned in an interview that even with the prestige of National Geographic that they were NOT granted a permit for drone use in Yosemite. Considering the high production value in the film I believe it was done with the helicopter. And that was one hell of a great shot!!
