Should the B.C. government scrap Daylight Savings Time?

I like the situation the way it is, with Daylight Saving Time during the long days in Spring and Summer, and Stanard Time in Winter when days are short. If we were on Saving Time year round, the morning would be dark in the winter until after nine o'clock. Not so nice for those of us who are morning people or for kids walking to school. The long gloomy nights of winter do not get shorter by changing the clocks; having a longer period of afternoon sunlight in December in northern latitudes means sacrificing morning light. If people want longer days in December, they need to move south. I suggest those people who are in favor of year long Daylight Saving Time rise an hour earlier next December (get up at 6 if your usual time is 7) and see if they like it.

I think we should STAY on Daylight Savings time!! When we do switch in the fall, we are only on PST for four lousy months, then we go back to DST for 8 months. We spend most of time in this time zone....so why not adopt this one as the 'Standard'?!! It makes the most sense!

BC residents vote to have daylight savings time stopped every year, the numbers are always in our favor but it never stops. Please make it stop.

We should go with the flow and let mother nature say what time of day it is . Moving the clocks back and forth is stupid.

I know people aren't this unintelligent, talking about how they enjoy the extra hour of sunlight and longer days lol. If we scrap daylight savings then we won't have to change the clocks back in the fallas well and therefore we would still have longer days. Wow the city and the people in it are dumb

No, I don't think we should scrap Daylight Savings Time. We need it.
    Here's why:
More human outdoor activities take place in afternoons and evenings than they do in the morning. We rush home from school before it gets dark, hurry to get shopping done after work before it gets dark, get outdoor activies done quickly before it gets dark, go for walks, some businesses have to close earlier because of less customers when it gets dark. Ask any anyone if they'd like it to get darker sooner in the evening. Their answer will most likely be "NO". Ask these same persons why he/she are turning their clocks BACK in the fall to lose afternoon daylight they love, only to turn it forward again in the next year to get it back. He or she will most likely answer that they turn their clocks back only because other people do it.

When spring arrives, we turn our clocks forward and we put a smile on our faces and say: "Well, isn't it nice we are moving our clocks forward. We'll get an extra hour of daylight in the evening!" LOL, you'd think we'd all realize by now we could enjoy that 'extra' hour of daylight by leaving our darn clocks alone in the fall. Because then we wouldn't need to move it forward in the spring because it would already be forward!

The solution is simple: Stop turning our clocks back in the fall and we won't need to move them forward in the spring; Stay on Daylight Saving Time all year-round to enjoy more daylight when we need it the most.

Daylight savings time makes life more interesting. I look forward to the extra hour of sleep in the fall and also look forward to longer days after a dull winter.

The question is a screw up from the get go. If we are to have the same time all year you would want DST like we are on all year round. That way you would still have the long summer evenings. If John Horgan drew up this question I totally understand. Amateur hour for sure.

What a botched question.... you need to be clear on what you are asking for. Are you in favour of keeping Daylight savings time year round, or Pacific standard time year round

Typical Horgan uneducated stupid question that is unclear like the one he sent everybody in the mail about changing the voting system. This man should stay out of the media with his comments.

Completely agree with Anita, Tanda and Brock. The question should be if we want to scrap changing clocks and, if so, which time do we prefer keeping year-round. Most people are not clear on whether daylight savings time means the summer clock or winter clock. I am absolutely in favour of having daylight savings time (summer clock) year-round.

We should stay on Daylight Saving Time and scrap Standard Time

  • Tanda Suzuki - 5 years ago

Are you not asking the wrong question? The better questions to be asked are:

Are you in favour of adopting either PST or PDT throughout the year in BC? Yes/No

    If Yes, select one::

    Pacific Standard Time

    Pacific Daylight Time

    This would generate more discussion.

This is going the wrong way. I am all in favor of only 1 time zone. But we should keep daylight savings time and scrap standard time.

Please, Please.. To me and as I & others see, it is not necessary
