Would you like to see your approximate Genius Bar wait time?

Former Genius Bar employee here and that would be an awful experience for employees and customers.

If 2 or 3 employees call out sick, are late for their shift, get stuck in an appointment longer than that is slotted for, someone brings in 5 devices for 1 appointment, appointment is finished in 10 minutes and a customer wants that technician to answer sales questions for 30 minutes, etc. it throws off the *entire schedule.* I can’t tell you how many people would be pissed if I quoted 30-45 minutes and it ended up being 45 (which was great because a 2 hour wait was not uncommon at our store).

Point being, while this feature would be nice (so employees don’t have to constantly remind people to wait for the text they were told they would get), the number of people that would be unreasonably upset when their quote time wasn’t exact are the ones that would keep Apple from wanting to do something like that. It’s more than you’d think and you’d be amazed at how upset people get when it comes to even a 15 minute delay, let alone if it’s a bad day and appointments are running late.

They already have a process for appointments, and having worked with them for a long time I can tell you they won't publish wait time info as they don't want to be measured on it publicly. That being said they do let you get an iMessage so you can leave the store and wander next door. That works for me with a verbal estimate if I just wander in.

?! there all ready is...they text you when they are getting close to your time?!

You can't do that from home as they would not know how many people are coming in.

Companies here tried to do this in restaurants and doctors office and it has never worked as they never know how many people will show up....
