Perhaps the problem is we live in an age where everything has to be dissected and analysed down to the last atom - leaving no room for a bit of shield-thumping before the battle. Dean Smith is not a fool and I doubt if he will allow us to ship 6 or 7 goals against Liverpool or City but there is no harm in putting them to some degree on the back foot by talking 'tough' - but he's wasting time if we're all going to trot along behind wringing our hands and saying we haven't a prayer and we have to park the bus - or whatever other ridiculous metaphor this season produces. On any day it is 11 men against 11 and they have their fears too.
