I’m a purist. I want to cut my parts from rough lumber and perform all of the steps myself. Otherwise, I can’t call the piece “mine.”
I’ve been using the drawer-service option for years. No one who sees the piece is going to criticize the maker for farming out a hidden part.
Sanding? Why would I sand? When people admire my work, are they going to ask, “Joe, did you sand this piece yourself?”
I like to do everything, then leave the finishing to a specialist. It’s still mine.
