Would you have traded Gavin Lux for Felipe Vazquez or another shutdown reliever?

I am glad they kept Lux and May and Ruiz They don't need to give up these highly rated prospects to solidify tier BP. But they should have and could have strengthened their BP more than what they did. There are a number of reliable performing RP's that we could have gotten for cash and a lower rated prospect and/or Pederson and Barnes. Pederson has value with HR, RBI and RHP batting avg and OPS. He adds to our depth but we need more help in BP than what Peterson gives us. If the Dodgers believe May can give us BP depth and reliability, and this becomes fact, then the Dodgers will be in very good shape and mgt kept our depth in place with Lux and Ruiz, Mayu and Pederson.

Everyone relax. Keeping Lux was spot on. Its not like we’re looking at the next Sandman.

I'm on the east coast so I'm not in tune with the every day Dodger affairs, but does anyone think they are hoping Dustin May can be a rotation mainstay so Stripling can come back in bullpen?

The Dodger leadership has been effective and has shown courage to do it the way they have determined and not allowing them to be swayed by the opinions of fans or critical newspaper writers. They have reached the World Series twice in a row and that is no small accomplishment. My only suggestion involves how they utilize their starting pitchers. Years ago, when every series was seven games, every team had only four starters and they allowed those starters to go deeper into games. That meant starters pitched a lot more innings. Complete games for starting pitchers were not uncommon. Don Sutton pitched a lot of them for the Dodgers. We have, by far, the best starting pitchers in baseball. Why not allow them to pitch seven or eight innings per game, or even allow them to try to complete games? Utilize that great talent for more innings. Instead of a pitch count, allow them to pitch until they take themselves out of games. That would go a long way to solving the bullpen problems. That is not meant as a form of criticism. The Dodgers have consistently shown very smart leadership and my congratulations are added to the many who admire the excellent work that has been done.

No! Lux is going to be great! Bullpen will be fine in post-season with starters. We are th best team in MLB with 72 wins. I would be 80 if not for the bullpen! But would that fact make any difference after 162 games? No! We still win the division! These guys in the front office know what they’re doing!

No I would not trade for a relief P by giving up the dodgers 3B-2B of the future. Lux looks like the real deal and he can play multiple positions. In the past the dodgers could have traded away Bellinger,Seager, and Verdugo for starting P and relief P. If the starters in the playoffs can go 7 inning the dodgers have enough arms in the pen to win the game. The new P Casey Sadler looks decent and with Kelly,Baez,Maeda,KJ,and the new LHP they should be fine as long as Roberts does not remove the starter after only 4-6 innings.

I can wait til next year if they fail in the Fall. Now, I like Tony in the bullpen maybe May starts in postseason And the Giants Will Smith coming as a free sgent next year. I enjoy the young guys coming in and winning games like Catcher Smith last night. Enjoy the ride, maybe Janson will come thru. Everybody is contributing on offense, now remodel the bullpen. We have the arms.

Lux, NO. Ruiz might be the only top 10 prospect considering what Will Smith is doing. Throw in 1-3 other top 50 prospects and then maybe make the trade.

  • Jason Martinez - 5 years ago

Yes but only if it was 1!for 1. No other prospects invoked. Vázquez is not a rental. He’d be under team control for 3-4 more years.

Forgot to add Urias as another effective reliever come playoff time.

  • PZ3 - 5 years ago

No way - Turner doesn't have long to go so Lux and Seager man the left side for quite some time to come.

  • Neoncactus - 5 years ago

Would have loved Vazquez or even Shane Greene, but not at the cost of Lux. Getting a top reliever definitely helps but isn't insurance against their offense disappearing in the postseason like it did last year. I think it comes down to organizational philosphies. Some GMs go for it and empty the farm system and others, like the Dodgers, prefer to build their team from the farm system. And this is what we get.

They traded for Darvish & Machado with no WS win to show for it, so perhaps standing pat and shuffling what you've already got might be the charm this time. Don't get the Gyrko acquisition at all.

  • JEFF Brown - 5 years ago

Hell yes. Kiss all world series away

  • Gene - 5 years ago

You need three “aces” to win the WS. We’ve got them.
Bolster the pen with Maeda, Stripling and Hill. If Baez and Jansen are effective
and the situational leftie comes through we should be okay.

But the Pirates wanted 2 of the 3. Impossible. Too much. Congratulations to Andrew Friedman for sticking to his guns. Either May of Gonsolin (didn't he like good the other day!) will come through. Start Kenta in the pen earlier this year to get him acclimated to the role. Give him his 'bonus' for starts anyway in advance to show him how much we appreciate his flexibility.

Makes no sense to trade a guy like Lux for a bullpen arm, unless it’s Mariano Rivera.
But I wish they had done a little more than they did.
    Jed freaking Gyrko?!?

Lux No. Dustin May and/or Keibert Ruiz YES
