One of the things that I've learned since President Obama was in office is that people don't want to learn, and being called out in public (television, Twitter, FB, or whatever) only makes them defensive not open to learning. I think most people don't want to learn anything or understand someone else's point of view until it directly affects them. My now ex-boyfriend complains all the time that he faces microaggressions at our job as straight cis male because our company is mostly women and the profession itself is mostly women nationwide. One day, he went on and on about it and told me that I didn't see the problems because as a woman I had privilege. (Mind you, my ex-boyfriend didn't know the words/concepts of privilege, woke, microaggressions, etc until I taught them to him but I digress.) When he finished his rant, I asked him if he now understood how he has male privilege in the world and I wasn't bullshitting when I tell him about sexism and microaggression faces in society. The answer was "yes."
