The first thing I use is peppermint oil all over my scalp. Works very fast. Sometimes put over stomach too if nauseated also
Heat pack is good
B2 and magnesium also helpful but take a while

I try several good swallows of water first, then try to sleep some more. My insurance limits the amount of my best "by mouth" abortive so I try to wait a little while before taking it. I'll know very soon if that drink of water made any difference. If not, then I take that abortive and lie down again. I'm lucky that after six years of disability, I'm officially retired and have the luxury of not worrying any more about missed days at work.

Occasionally water will work, but often, when the attack is food related medication is required before the migraine builds to an uncontrollable level.
I have had migraines since 1973, growing in frequency, and caused initially by stress and childbirth. Now intolerance to a growing number of foods and additives also trigger them.
Modern public awareness of migraine, new medication and media attention has made me less isolated and more able to cope.
