Turned off noise detection and maybe get 9-10 hrs. Haven’t started uninstalling apps yet but likely will have to unless there’s a WatchOS 6.0.2 soon.

I am going to return my apple watch 5, because of the battery, it complete fale!

I got a lot more time on my series 3. My battery now runs out before the end of day. Are used to be able to go all day and through the night with series 3. Very disappointed in the battery life of the series 5

And to add to my last comment (since I couldn't edit) How am I supposed to meet my 'standing goal' when I have to charge it for a few hours midday just to get it to last through?!?!?!?!?!

  • Mackytack - 5 years ago

Awful!!! I used to charge my apple watch series 4 in the morning, do a double at the gym (I'm the instructor) and I didn't need to charge til the following morning. Now I can't make it through the day! I don't want to have to charge it overnight, because I like to monitor my heart rate when sleeping. So now what????????? SO BUMMED!!! MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT. I want my 4 back!!!

I was very disappointed at battery life after three days of usage. The series 4 would last a day and a half with moderate usage. The series 5 is only good for about 18 hours as advertised. As a test, I tried turning off the “always on” feature. I was able to get 34 hours on the first day an 32 the next. Looks like i will have to decide if always on is more important than longer battery life. I probably should have kept my series 4.

Went from series 4 to series 5 hoping the battery was as Apple say. The series 5 can’t last not even 8 hours with normal use. At the end of my 8 hours work the series 4 was always over 70% of battery . The series 5 barely made 8 hours. Thinking about returning it.

According to the video below, a power cycle (powering down then turning on again) after initial setup or restore corrects the issue. In any case I ended up returning the series 5 yesterday and restoring my series 4 ultimately deciding it wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the cost for me.

Really excited to get my series 5 watch, after 2 days I am very very unhappy with it . 2 days in a row battery is at 10% after only 7.5 hours!! WTF this appalling. I’ve turned off all notifications and activities and always on and it’s still only lasts 7.5 hours .
Seriously considering sending the product back

Appalling and a very disappointing product from apple with misleading advertising

I was really looking forward to series 5 iwatch. I am
very disappointed when it comes to battery life. Battery drains so quickly. Series 4 held up its charge. I hope Apple is looking into to fixing this issue.

  • Carly - 5 years ago

My Apple Watch 5’s battery is draining to 10% in 7.5 hours and has done so for the first 2 days of ownership. WTF is going on? My 4’s battery held a charge for a significantly longer time.

  • Dean - 5 years ago

There definitely IS an issue with battery life. I used to get home at the end of the day and have 75-80% charge left on my Series 4, with the series 5 it's now 11:30 AM and I'm already down to that, and ending days at about 20%. I believe it's Series 5 related as I had updated my Series 4 to Watch OS 6 and didn't recall noticing any difference. I have all the same settings restored from my Series 4 and confirmed, and have the Always On Display set to OFF. There IS an issue.

Fully charged my series 5 watch in the morning and I was at 22% at 1:00pm. Just wearing it all day. Not on anything. I’m truly disappointed. My series 2 lasted for almost two days. Charged last night and this morning down to 70%. Haven’t worn it yet this morning.

  • Ira Saltiel - 5 years ago

I upgraded from a series 1 to the 5. The 1’s battery lasted all day and then some. It normally had at least 50% left at the end of the day. The 5 is very disappointing - less than 10% after 12 hours. Tonight it totally turned off at 6:30 pm (only 12 hours after taking it off the charger at 6:30 am). If this continues, it’s useless to me. Perhaps I can turn off some of the battery guzzling features, but I don’t know how to do that. I’ll check around to see what can be turned off. Otherwise I’ll return it if this cannot be resolved.

The series 4 had fantastic battery life. I would use it all day, go to sleep with it running a sleep tracking app and have 50% battery left in the morning. I would charge it for 1 to 2 hours in the morning and it would be good for another day. The series 5 may just barely last 18 hours and that’s with light usage, no cell calls, no exercise, no texting. The series 4 was rated at 18 hours but that was a serious underestimate. I would rather have battery life than always on. Thinking about returning the series 5.

I had the one, then the three and now the 5. never an issue with the battery till the 5. Very, very disappointed. My 3 went more than 24 hours, this does not get anywhere near this. Thinking about return as it is only 4 days old.

This is my first iWatch - Series 5; bought my wife a Series 4 a few months ago and she has no battery problems. I watched this one drop from 100% to 95% in about an hour wearing it while I sat at my desk this morning. And it continues to drop too quickly. It'll be dead by dinner time. I've lowered brightness, background refresh is off, but notifications are on. I put aside my Rolex for this dud.

Apple Watch 5 is down to 18% after 16 hours. My Apple Watch 4, which unfortunately shattered when
dropped, never drained so fast. Would have repaired it but didn’t have Apple Care and no break from Apple on out of warranty repair price even after new model was released. Even was advised by Genius Bar to expect repair price on the Watch 4 to drop after Sept event, but instead Apple discontinued the 4 and didn’t budge on repair price. So, I went for the 5. Not really making me feel good about the Apple brand right now with this battery hog I just bought. A software update that improved battery life might help me feel less than a sucker than I do now.

Just purchased the series 5 on Friday and the Battery dies very fast, my series 3 lasted a day and if I fell a sleep with it ,I’d wake up and it will still be on!!

  • Frank Klátil - 5 years ago

100% charge @ 7:00 0% left at 13:30. Apple watch 5 40 mm. Absolutely unacceptable. My Apple watch 3 lasted easily all day.

Trash battery life. Put it on at 6:45am 100% charge. Currently at 1:30pm I’ve gotten 20 notifications, no workouts today, and the cellular signal is turned off my battery is at 63%. I’ve turned off the noise decibel feature, turned down the brightness, closed out background apps and have a minimal watch face. Series 4 usually would have 80% battery life. Wife’s series 4 had 35 notifications and used the speak to text option 3 times and her battery life is at 86%, same amount of hours. Something has to be done about this. Not thrilled with my purchase so far.

The first 2 days I had my Apple Watch 5 the battery drain was a bit faster than series 4 that I had just before it. But I decided to leave it on the charger a bit longer and let all the settings, data, music, apps, etc get a full chance to sync for 2 full 12 hour nights. I know that sounds like a long time but from my experience today the watch is running much smoother with much less battery drain. I think those first few days when the Apple Watch is syncing and organizing its file system it must be draining battery more. At least it seems that way to me. I have the 44mm LTE version too and I have had every model before this. I prefer this one above them all save it be the battery drain issue and I think a lot of that has to do with watchOS 6 which I am still waiting to see the bugs worked out of. I think it needs an update to 6.1 or something soon.

Awful battery life, so much less than my series 3! Had this for 3 days now, not happy!!

  • Heather A - 5 years ago

The Apple Watch 5 has such horrible battery life. I took my watch off the charger at 6am, did a 45 minute walk, always on, battery is at 38% and it’s 7pm. With my series 4, the battery would be at a little over 50% at this time of night. I’m really disappointed because I was looking forward to all of the new updates. Now, I wish I never sold my Series 4

Got the aw 5 yesterday. Charged it all night last night. Put it on this am at 5am and it was dead by 2pm. This sucks. Had a 3 before and I miss it. Absolutely ridiculous!!!!

  • Nelson Menendez - 5 years ago

I used to get two days without charging with my AW4 but after upgrading to AW5, I barely getting 18 hours. What I have been doing to extend the hours is putting the watch in theater mode when I know I would not be starting at the watch all the time.

  • Jax - 5 years ago

1st day wore the watch for 16 hrs with always on. Battery was around 38%. 2nd day wore the watch for 18 hrs and battery was 45%. The difference was on day 2 I used always on during my mountain bike ride and with the continuous motion it was on bright all the time.
Still quite happy with the watch and will use always on when I need it.

  • JonJ - 5 years ago

Series 5, 44mm LTE - 50% battery drain after an hour’s strength training workout listening to music downloaded to the watch. On LTE, but no data used. Watch down to 12% battery after 8 hours (remainder of time on WiFi). 56% drain with similar workout yesterday.

  • Danny adams - 5 years ago

Yes horrible battery life after 6 hours but only 1 hour of usage it’s already down to 83%. Yesterday I used it for this and that and it was 13% afterwords. My series 3 made it all day easily but this one I will need a midday charge to keep going

  • Gill - 5 years ago
