Why Do We Have a Semi-Annual General Conference?
To clarify doctrine by focusing on current interpretations, priorities, etc.
To sustain Church leaders across the entire membership, reinforcing their authority.
To provide change and revelation to the Church membership straight from the horse's mouth.
To address the world at large, not just Church members, by providing gospel messages to all.
Providing the lesson materials and talk fodder for the next 6 months, replacing static manuals with something more contemporary and dynamic.
Succession planning, giving more junior leaders a chance to be assessed addressing the Church membership and to avoid missteps in "promoting" the wrong sort of person.
To provide individual members with personal revelation and inspiration.
