Do you agree with Dundee City Council's plan to charge £35 for residents to have their garden waste collected?

Don't think anyone on this council knows what there doing lack of business acumen.

Residents are already paying high rates of community charge, which previously included the garden waste collection and glass re-cycling. What’s changed? What comes next........ charges for plastic, cans and paper?
Looks like the thin end of a wedge to me! It will also lead to more fly tipping which results in further cost to D.C.C.
False economy and poor re-cycling strategy!
I won’t be paying the charges!

Just have to start burning Garden Waste from now on. I got 3 bins. They get enough money off us through Council Tax. The normal bin collections are no that great as it is !!

    A. Salmond wrote off millions in unpaid council taxgto get people back on the register to vote snp, this is all catching up with the taxpayer now. Also pursue those not paying at present.

Some of the green waste collected in dundee gets loaded into lorrys and sent to Forfar at a cost to the Dundee public is this bin charge to cover this

Should be part of what is paid in council tax. Or maybe council should just het their finances sorted and not tap us up for it.

Not all brown bins are the same size yet they are all charged the same. Totally unfair.

Totally robbing from the already poor off.......
I have 2 brown bins, I'm a pensioner so this would cost me £70 a year on top of my already outrageous council tax.......of which I pay for this service through my council tax!!

Dundee Council you can come and take my brown bins away, I'll just let my garden grow wild.....let's see how long it takes them to tell me to cut my grass then!!

Start by stopping the free lunches for the councillors which happen 2-3 times a week.
Half the time the brown bins don’t even get emptied properly.
Will they deduct money off in the winter months when the lorries supposedly can’t get down certain streets because of a wee bit of snow???
More need to be chasing people who don’t pay their council tax,yet again it’s the people who actually work for a living who will pay these costs not the lazy scroungers who think the world should pay for them.

I raised an issue by us - we have shared brown bins (3 for 10 properties). I asked the council for clarification of who should pay the fees and was told to arrange it amongst ourselves. Helpful(!)

Looks like it will result in more pollution as can see more people burning thyr garden rubbish yet councils go on about the environment well there's your answer.

My Council Tax is also £230 per month.and unfortunately i have 5 brown bins? This additional charge of £35 per bin is daylight robbery, especially when the Council appear to be also making a profit from our waste, by selling on compost to farmers etc, surely this would self fund if correctly managed?
The SNP came to power promising to "SCRAP THE UNFAIR COUNCIL TAX"and have failed to bring in local income tax as promised.
It is high time they were held to account for their broken promises.
Emptying the bins is Why we all pay Council Tax, and one of the few services i use, Why should we asked to Pay More?
Surely there should have been a public consultation on this atrocious decision?

Having worked for Dundee city council, I have seen first hand the costs and waste incurred when they have their meetings. Its very often a free meal with alcohol for them, yet they pontificate on why we should give them more money, totally oblivious to the fact the money shortfall is often due to their previous hair brained schemes which are conveniently forgotten about.
These people were elected by increasingly fewer voters, because less and less people trust them and eventually give up

My council tax is already £230 a month, why? I don’t believe the money will be used for good causes, I don’t trust or believe that, I will dispose of my own grass, and I won’t park at my work when they bring in the car parking tax either

Angus council and Perth and Kinross have been doing this for a few years now, so why should Dundee be any different. Your council tax is for public services, sewage water and your general rubbish not for garden Rubbish, however as I pointed out to my local council, that they have got this back to front. They should be charging for general rubbish i.e kitchen blackbag waste, and your blue and brown recyclable waste should be free to encourage more people to be more green. It is so easy to throw a recyclable item in the kitchen bin. landfil does not break down so easy, unlike garden waste, so why incure a cost for easy decomposing materials...

It’s ridiculous and outrages WHY should people pay for their garden bins to get emptied??? WHY should people pay council tax which is expensive enough??? THATS THE WHOLE POINT PAY COUNCIL TAX AND GET THINGS DONE!! if the council want to charge for the grass bins then guess what scrap the council tax!! Either one or the other,, just because dundee city council have run out of money don’t start charging for stupid stuff

Is this not what we are paying our council tax for, it will start off with the brown bins and then what they will start charging us for our other bins aswell. It’s the same with the road tax, we pay for this and they can’t even keep our roads in a decent condition, the council needs to get a grip. Where does all our money go ????????‍♀️

  • Anon - 4 years ago

We pay enough council tax and are getting less and less for our money if we agree to pay for brown bins then they will charge for all the rest they need to look at their own finances first and stop wasting money on councillor expenses and overpaying for services they should start budgeting like the rest of us and stop wasting money I also think they should look at their management structure there are far too many bosses and not enough actual workers

  • David Simpson - 4 years ago

Start charging for the brown bins what next
Start charging for the blue bins then what
The burgundy bins then we will have a chip inserted in the grey bins so the council can charge you for the weight of your rubbish

The letter we received from the council states our free collections will end in the next few weeks- we always thought we had paid for it as part of our council tax - misleading statement and letter

  • David cowan - 4 years ago

Once charges are introduced people will be tempted to dump items I black in.
The charge does not encourage recycling of any type
