I follow your recommendations to the letter. I too add dryer sheets both under the hood and in the interior. Vermin hate the smell and it doesn't linger like the smell from mothballs.

I usually put steel wool pads in the exhaust tips to prevent mice and any small varmit nesting.... plus in the engine bay some sheets of bounce or fleecy or wrap moth balls in a rag. Mice eat wiring too.
