Do you think it's fair to compare drivers of different eras?
Yes, the sport is the same no matter what - you drive as fast as you possibly can until the race is over.
I've never really thought about it, one way or the other.
No. Spec chassis, open rule-books allowing innovation and equipment that wouldn't hold up well are all variables common to different eras. There is no way to compare them fairly.
