Bob, that first scene was meant to appear racist, but if you paid any attention to the show, it had nothing to do with race at all. It had everything to do with the fact that Dee wasn't welcome with that family because she had caused the son to go to prison. That 'racist' man was the son's father. He was just pissed at her... not racist.

The "Racist" scene in the beginning of the first episode was completely misplaced/out-of-place and dumb. Not even remotely close to reality in any way, shape, or form unless you're in the middle east and non-muslim.
