The last episode was totally disappointing. Changing it around so much and jumping back and for to an unknown future was confusing. I would like to see it as it was written in the book.

Outlander is one of the best series on television in my opinion. However, I wish they would follow the books more closely. The acting in the finale was superb but the 1970s era dream sequence was too distracting and didn’t work. It just didn’t fit the plot development. having read all the books, it’s somewhat discordant when the series veers away so much. The storyline about Roger and Brianna traveling through the stones and then back home to North Carolina was odd. Roger was so desperate to get back to his own time and when it didn’t happen, he was like whatever, no big deal. Why did they alter the story so drastically? I was looking forward to seeing them living in the “future” with their children etc.

Having loved DG's books for all these 20 plus years, watching the TV show has been a bit bittersweet. There are moments I loved in all the episodes, but CB's and SH'S acting in this finale of Season 5 certainly shows their growth in their acting muscles and hearts. I'll nitpick though because I hate the Big House. Someone living in the early to mid 1700's so far from civilization on the coast would probably not have had such a fancy place and their wallpaper!!! Ugh! It glared out at me. When did Jaime get so rich? The whisky money was used to buy seed, farm animals, and trade goods used to get more of the same. The crops primarily went to feed the people of the Ridge. During this time there were more families settling on the Ridge, and Jaime had to help them build their homes, plant their crops etc. Fancy wallpaper would not have been on frugal, practical Claire's list of daily necessities!

I don’t understand why anyone who rates any episode below average would even bother watching. Giving the lowest rating on the last episode is unfathomable given the complexity of each scene.

I am absolutely crazy about Outlander. I re-watch episodes every day. Claire was wonderful in this episode but she could never be as outstanding as Jamie in Wentworth. He is the superior actor in my opinion and his facial expressions are unbelievable.

The season and the finale were wonderful. Cait and Sam were powerful in their parts. I cried several times during episode 12.

One thing puzzles me, though. In the books, Mr. & Mrs. Bugg play small but integral parts in book 5, but larger ones in book 6. And Mrs. Bugg is the one who kills Lionel Brown by smothering him with a pillow. She says she didn't think a man like him should be allowed to live, initially. Then in book 6 it turns out to be much more complicated. It's a pretty essential plot line, so I'm curious to know how the writers will work that out.

Guess I've got at least 12 months to think about it!

Incredible episode. All parts played to the max. Cait was award winning. Sam was at his best. He’s better and better every episode. The storyline was gut wrenching. And so is waiting for the next season.

The 70s house, beloved family scenes is how Claire's mind gave her moments away from her trauma. It was well done. The mind protects itself in this way and is not uncommon. Claire had her family around her in her dream like state of mind to keep her life force strong enough to live thru her ordeal. Jamie, as said before me, Sam, DID do a remarkable job of portraying his blazing anger, fear for his wife and the gut wrenching dread of what they did to her, all under wraps of his hugely massive self control. Excellent acting, all. LOVED IT!

The 1700 story line was excellent but the intermingled 1970’s scenes were a distraction
and added no value to the overall episode

This episode was very well put together Cait was awesome. The depth and emotion that she portrayed was outstanding. Sam also was well played with the smoldering rage that took his emotional depth off the charts. Marsali was totally amazing,as well as Bree, Roger, and Ian. Everyone put in a absolutely stunning performance and deserve high honors for this episode. Well done
