My only concern is that employers will simply cut back wages & salaries by £5k a year, so folk will be no better off...

Will this be any better or fairer than the crap fest that is Universal Credit or will it continue to be the case of the poor getting poorer as usual?

I think following the pandemic many people’s working lives will change. With part time home schooling and continued social distancing many people will not be able to work full time in the same way as before. It sounds as if this system of payment may assist in allowing people to work less days or hours without financial hardship.
