Are you OK with Steelers players taking a knee during the anthem?

If any Steelers take a knee I will be done watching football . I have been a lifetime steeler fan , always had respect for the way They run their organization . As a Marine Corps vet it sickens me to see athletes show disrespect for a flag & country who have done more good than bad under that banner . They can show their disapproval of the way things are on their own time . When they are on the clock I expect them to be unified professionals . Please stand for the freedom that our flag represents . We all don’t have to agree on everything but many men & women , black, white , Hispanic , Native American , Asian have sacrificed their lives for that same flag . You are disrespecting them also.

I have already opted out of my whole year's season tickets, and have already written the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA about my boycotting and not watching any games where they choose to impose Black Lives Matter, or ANY political or social statement upon me when all I want to do is watch sports to escape all the problems in the world for a few hours. I will not be watching any games where this occurs, and will boycott all advertisers. I don't need sports to survive, but I was really looking forward to it. So this choice by professional sports forcing their views on me is causing a huge sacrifice that I must make, and is a great disappointment for me.

I won’t be watching if they choose to take a knee!
    Find another way to protest!

  • John Caldwell - 4 years ago

My uncle was killed by a Japanese Coma Kasie in ww2.my father was with Patton 3rd Army Battle of the Bulge .I am a USAF vet Vietnam .You can protest all you want befor the game ,half time, after the game,to many men and women black and white, brown and red, have given their lives for our countrys freedom and the flag of the usa.to make it possible to even play football. If you think you are so oppressed in this country tell it to ones that ,gave up their lives for freedom.and I will bet most of them were not millionares.. I have been a steeler fan for 60 years. When the Chief, Buddy Parker,John Henry Johnson,Bobby Layne were house hold names. We all bleed red .we all have a heart. God Bless the Pittsburgh Steelers. Do what is right .and if you don't may god help us all!!!!

  • Bob Pennington - 4 years ago

I've been a Steelers fan my whole life. Looks like the NFL will be a good league for Democrats to support. I couldn't care less. I won't be watching

  • Robert Bracy - 4 years ago

I am a proud Black Vietnam Veteran. The symbols of our Nation are a unifying force for our people in good times and in bad. Fair weather Patriots can never be depended on. Our nation provides remedies for injustice. These are the options we must choose. Born in the deep South of the 50s, I know what racism looks like. Forced to ride the back of the bus use separate water fountains, attend separate inferior schools. On and on. But I served my country, went to school on the GI Bill, raised a family and voted twice for a Black president. Are things perfect, no. But we as a nation are trending in the right direction. I risked my life so that players have the right to peacefullyully protest. But I have the right to respectfully disagree. I often wonder, if this is the population we had during WW2, would we be speaking German and Japanese right now. NO, I love the Steelers, but for my buddies that did not get to live thier American Dreams, lost on foreign soil, I will not watch. GO STEELERS- God bless the USA.

  • slaggingham - 4 years ago

If kneeling is disrespect, why do you do it to pray? Or to propose marriage? Or to be knighted?

  • James - 4 years ago

They have the right to kneel. I have the right to disagree and stop watching. I suggest the 50% who agree with me do the same. It’s that simple.

  • robert - 4 years ago

I prefer that players burn the flag and fart during the national anthem. That's real freedom!

If you force people to stand then there is no freedom.

If you don't want politics during the game then stop playing the national anthem and forcing playesr to stand.

    Kneeling is respectful.

Stop gaslighting people. To say kneeling is against the flag and troops is telling them what they mean when they are telling you it's about police brutality.

  • john seniuk - 4 years ago

    y not after?

  • John Silinsky - 4 years ago

Stay in the locker room don’t disrespect the flag. It’ll end my support for the team after 50+ years.

  • DrewBrees - 4 years ago

I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.

  • Chilly J - 4 years ago

It is fine for the Racist to kick and scream and threaten to cancel season tickets because there are “tons” of non-racist fans who will buy up “all” the tickets...trust me????

Get a life and grow up..

  • Mark G - 4 years ago

Obviously, everyone has a right to protest. Fine. I don’t have to agree with it. These protests are dividing the country. It may not be your intent to increase racial problems by protesting but that is what is happening. It may not be your intent to disrespect the flag and our country, but that is what is happening. If the Steelers kneel, I’m done with the NFL.

  • Mickey Dixon - 4 years ago

Protest don't protest let's play football Kaepernick either let him play or don't let him play black lives if a cop kills for no reason then the cop gets charged for 1st degree murder black or white or brown now let's play football GO SEAHAWKS oh yea one more thing knell or don't knell I don't care I will have respect for you if you knell or if you don't knell let's play football again GO SEAHAWKS

  • John Schaefer - 4 years ago

While I won’t kneel during the national anthem, I respect the right of those who wish to kneel. The opportunity to express ones peaceful disagreement is inherent in our constitution.

  • A. Jones - 4 years ago

I have read good arguments from both sides. I am a Vietnam veteran and still remember how we were treated when we came home. I see the change that has been made. I was a police office for 50 years. I did that for the same reason I was in the army, to protect and serve this country. The problem I see is to many people are letting someone else think for them. There are two kinds of people in this world the ones that are kind and loveing and the ones that are cruel and hateful. I see people that are actually good letting the bad ones getting them to do things that they know they shouldn't do. Now with that said. If someone stand for the national anthem because they thinks its the right thing to do good and if someone kneels for the national anthem because they think it's the right thing to do. I have no problem with that but if they do it because somebody else is doing it and they follow them then I don't agree.

  • Blake - 4 years ago

Check the real crime numbers. We all love stats. Please check the stats of crime and then we can talk. We must stop killing each other!!!

  • Prode to be a American - 4 years ago

I don't see what disrespecting your country that many have died for to give us our freedoms. Had anything to do with police brutality on anyone . Not standing and putting your hand on your heart is disrespecting your country not protesting. If you cant respect that then you dont belong in this country.

  • Dennis - 4 years ago

As for me and mine we stand for the flag and kneel for the cross.

  • Brad - 4 years ago

I’d like to know what kind of “change”. I’ve yet to hear any specifics on what”change” means. That is an awfully broad, and rather subjective word. I’d ask, how is taking a knee bringing forward “change”? If you really profess you want “change”, I’d suggest rolling up your sleeves and going to work towards a “solution”.
Get your asses off the couch and go do some meaningful work, especially the players. Instead of crying non-stop like a bunch of two year olds, go get involved and partner with law enforcement in especially, dare I say urban areas where crime rates are through the roof.

I’m sorry, that would actually require work. It’s easier to sit back, and point fingers when something like this happens. I have no idea what the objective is. Are we talking to end police brutality? Well, that ain’t gonna happen, there will always be cases when a cop (one that should’ve never been on the street to begin with after 16-18 prior complaints. These pejorative’s that are constantly thrown out mean nothing, without constructive feedback and work to help end this crap. But hey what do I know.

  • Jessica - 4 years ago

As a BLACK FEMALE VETERAN with PTSD from combat in the middle east during 3 tours of duty and the recipient of 2 purple hearts i think it's important to express my opinion here. I have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM with these players kneeling before the flag during our national anthem. In fact I encourage it! My family and the entire black community is disproportionately affected by unwarranted police brutality/ discrimination and overall societal intolerance and disprivilege. It has to stop! I fought for my country, now I need my country to fight for me! Let these men use their influence to promote real change! Go Steelers!!

  • Kamp Camo - 4 years ago

Wow using the platform is exactly what a protest is for! Idk why you’re so hurt about someone’s decision that literally has no bearing on you! You can ignore them it’s not hurting or changing anything about the game ...It’s unbelievable you all try to control ppls every move just look away tf it’s not that serious I BET WHEN U WATCH FROM HOME YOURE NOT GIVING FULL ATTENTION STANDING WITH YOUR HAND ON HEART DURING THE ANTHEM! You’re probably getting snacks or beer sitting on the couch foh

  • Pat - 4 years ago

Players can protest all they want......ON THEIR OWN TIME. They all have social media, go ahead and use it. I don't pay big $$$ to go watch players protest. If they don't want to put their hand over their heart and RESPECT the flag and then anthem, then tell them to stay in the locker room. The anthem is time for the anthem and NOTHING else. Using the LEAGUE and COMPANY time as their platform to protest, is wrong. Sure, maybe they say that the mainstream public has mininterpreted their timing, but still, you don't use anthem time for your personal social injustice campaign.

  • Joe Lawlor - 4 years ago

Let the people who voted yes, go fight for this country and then let them vote again. I'll bet they won't disrespect the flag then.

  • Jim - 4 years ago

I have no problem with protests, but find another way to protest. Respect the flag and stand.

  • Ed foster - 4 years ago

Since when did kneeling before anything become a sign of disrespect? In fact, im pretty sure kneeling before something is the utmost respect one can give.

  • Ron - 4 years ago

Logan your a dumbass. Guess the twin towers fell by themselves rite? You fucking idiot. Leave this country then. Everyone wants to point at white men but facts are facts more black on black crimes and murders than white on black. Check the facts bitch

  • Shawn Jones - 4 years ago

Just half to stop watching football, and every other sport if they are going to kneel. Very disappointing .

  • Logan - 4 years ago

William, this is a message board for people to express their opinions. Nobody asked you to keep your shit to yourself. I'm sorry you're too self absorbed to see that the oppression of the black community in this nation is VERY real... so it's ironic that you would call me self absorbed. I will admit that I shouldn't have brought up my disdain for the modern military. However, I stand by that claim and do believe that all wars we've been involved in since WW2 werent necessary and were of our own doing. That's neither here nor there. My point is, these players have an opportunity to influence real change on an unmatched national scale (the NFL on gameday). And they're not kneeling in protest to your service to this country or the freedoms that the flag and anthem are supposed to represent. They're kneeling to raise awareness of the inequalities and injustices that minority community's, specifically black Americans, experience constantly in everyday life. And in raising awareness, hopefully bring about real change so that they might experience those same freedoms and comforts, free of discrimination, that white Americans are privileged with but are oblivious to. And again, though some may take offense, the NFL on gameday has an unmatched national audience and is the best place to spread awareness that can bring about change. Because without actual equality free of hate and prejudice the flag and the anthem cease to mean anything. Let them kneel

  • Mike - 4 years ago

As a veteran I am highly against kneeling during the national anthem. I do support freedom of speech but I also feel that while at work you must conform to what your employer sets as the rules. If the players want to show support they should not do it during a game/working. They have vast platforms that they can push their message or beliefs on whatever cause they support and do not have to show disrespect to people that do not wish to see people kneeling during the national anthem.

  • William - 4 years ago

Logan go fuck yourself I’m a veteran I keep my personal shit to me Nobodies oppressed in this nation you don’t like it pack your shit and leave you self absorbed douche bag

  • William - 4 years ago

Keep your personal shit off the field

  • Logan - 4 years ago

Kneeling is probably the best way to get everyone's attention. I support every player that kneels to the anthem. We're at a critical point in our nation's story. Right now our nation is a joke. Half of you are racists and the other half think the flag is your God. I don't care if you went to war or served. Unless you fought in WW2, you weren't fighting for or even protecting our freedom. You were out playing world police and bullying a world that never asked for your help. This nation is not more important than your fellow man's wellbeing because this nation isn't a nation without true equality for all its members. Your fellow man and countryman is in danger, and the establishment doesn't care enough to bring about actual systemic change. If you really want to serve your country support those with the influence to actually bring about change and fight inequality at any cost. Furthermore the NFL is primarily black, so if you aren't going to fight for their basic human rights then stop watching football. In addition to that, half of you opposed to kneeling are the same people calling for strictly peaceful protests. Kneeling is a peaceful protest and its protesting this country's blatant ostracization of black Americans. What other way would you have them protest that would be anywhere near as influential and impactful as kneeling on a national stage? The NFL is something that most Americans watch. There are few other things, if any, in this society that attract that many eyes. They've tried everything else to no avail...Change isn't happening. Stop being so closed minded and realize desperate times call for desperate measures. At this point if we can't correct these injustices, then we've truly failed the flag and the nation and kneeling should be the least of your concerns...

  • Bill H - 4 years ago

I respect anyone's right to protest or express their anger and disappointment regarding racism and/or police brutality. The problem is the way that has been chosen to do so, kneeling during the national anthem, offends many people and thus is quite divisive. Now those that support kneeling can write off what I say as being ignorant or non supportive of the cause but that is not true and is missing the point. Instead of justifying the kneeling as not being disrespectful toward the flag, which I can understand, would it not be better to search for a way to get attention to the cause in a way that NOONE finds disrespectful towards the flag, country, or veterans? I cannot name one person that would support taking the lives of people unneccisarily. I do however know plenty of people that take offense to kneeling during the anthem. So I suggest find a way to unite EVERONE against the police brutality that has happened instead of only those that can accept that particular form of protest. When that ia done and the cause has the full support of everyone then you actually may have a shot at true change.

  • Chuck teinhard - 4 years ago

It costs me a lot of $ to go see a live game. Quite frankly, this is my time “away” from the politics. If it happens week 1, I will learn to watch something else-protest on your own time when your customers are paying $200+per seat.

  • Chuck teinhard - 4 years ago

  • David - 4 years ago

Anyone that says "football players are paid to play football and nothing else" is a hypocrite and employs an especially malignant plantation mindset. As if a car mechanic can't express his opinion about anything other than carburetors.
We are sick of it. We see you. We hear you. We are watching you. And we, the rest of the planet that has had enough of that pathetically coded, veiled racism, look forward to the day when your poison dies with you. When you see a teammate take a knee, your #1 priority should be to find out what's causing their pain and support them. Go Steelers! Take a knee. I kneel with you with hopes that we will all stand together, on the same ground for once.

  • Andrea Villella - 4 years ago

The National Anthem is showing respect for the flag and that nothing can stop the resilience of that flag. It will always stand tall.. demands our respect for the men and women of whom never let it falter. The flag demands respect for everyone that looks at it . You should be in awe of the people that made this land what it is... Gave proof through the night that our flag was STILL there. Oh say does that Star Spangled banner yet wave....O'er the land of the FREE and the HOME of the BRAVE ...
Before everyone says no some people aren't free there is still the oppressed.. we are not free......etc.
And to this I say... What is going on has nothing to do with the flag.
It was not meant to have anything to do with what the flag meant at the time. Or why it was written. Don't justify those words FREE and BRAVE as to anything other than to mean in our anthem
NOW... what has gone on in this country, through different times have not been our brightest moments. Even though certain periods of time, have been unacceptable..we thought things changed... In some ways things have... unfortunately..we seem unable to accept social equality among certain and I am going to be blunt White people and Black people. The social profiling and harm is unacceptable. But the social profiling on all sides must stop. We just went through something life changing with this disease. We haven't learned a damn thing. I find that sad Someone has to die by the hands of trusted lawmen.... As soon as quarantine is lifted... Then everyone has to revolt and loot not protest in this poor man's name.... pathetic....
NOW.....I would ask you ....Did anyone wave a flag????? Do you get my point. Have a moment of silence. But the flag always should never share it's Valour Thank you for your time.

  • john Clanky - 4 years ago

wow a lot of idiot racists in these comments would rather see police murder innocent black folks than for someone they've never met do something that doesn't impact them in any way on TV. Luckily the steelers players could not possibly care less about what simpleton yokels like yourselves have to say about their right to speak out for equality

  • Mickey - 4 years ago

Yes it is ok to take a knee.
It never was and is not about our military or the flag.
The original intent was to bring attention to the police brutality of black Americans and social injustice.
It was allowed to be subverted by a certain political figure and sadly people who didn't really want to hear Kaepernick's message were happy to go along with the incorrect interpretation.
I am an old grey haired white lady, who if given a chance would be down on that field kneeling with those players.

  • Robert McKee - 4 years ago

My Personal comment, applies to the hopes and dreams and defensive foundation of a Peoples, which engenders
the meaning of Nation, Country, Town or City even; But, as a (Disabled Veteran) American I stand to reiterate the
true fact misinformed. our flag and its' founding intent for all men did not exclude any of their rights, it was an evil that genetically bore the unbroken chains of discontent, sorrow, bitter hardship, and a multiplicity of Just Words that name a vile actions unending upon the ethnicities of men, (a specific Despondent Man ) African American Community. The Truth there is the Monumental road of History. lain by the heavy track of Abraham. still, you must know that for the endless trial, as was the God's best example of a people who are still looked down on others have preferred to roast them and all to exterminate them. yet this is an example for all as we suffer, to seek his answers as Moses did to guided those enslaved Israelites. but. even free they failed the measures of the given freedom and some were forced the Nation of the Founding of Abraham.
This probably seemed like a lot of disingenuous tripe, by someone who has no knowledge nor care for the Black or their plight; of course I don't know the every day trials. but I was very poor and though we moved constantly. I spent a good many years in the Black Community and would find housing in places with Black Families. It is and has always been the Hearts and Minds of Jaded, Calculating men to turn what was written with the full intent to embrace all of its' ideals without hesitation - still stand there men who's sweet drip from their lips like water we've needed in a brush fire, but we cannot taught the voice you were hoping for , and the voice that everyone was already pushing and personally creating.
Our Flag represents the Freedom thus Nation was founded under, stands by, and fir those not truly free (the knowledge they are free to fight forward and gain momentum in your life, as well to become a light and set a spark start changes to the Laws that Restrain, Restrict, and Reserve the Right.
The best thing was today when I heard that Silence was Racism. Rather than labeling people, scaring introverts
even in tines like these, the best and most hopeful thing I can rely on is "Yes, All of us to wake up from our MacCarthy'ism and Tell Them we want that pivitol move to once and for all bring the empty hand of the man at the door seeking nothing but the right to a righteous life. WE can speak for each other , we can now awaken and strive to seek to see some for another, and in just these few and still more we can rise to embrace one another, still striving to grow together and even more so, wholly, as a Nation.
Together as a people, "We The People, in order to form a more perfect union …." If we could just pull that knee off the ground and stand with a firm hand planted across a heart that only believes in full, true words and intent of Freedom, its' rights and all the defense it entails

Thankyou, from a wordy Veteran who simply believes the Flag is a Promise, the Flag is a Promotion of every tomorrow, the Flag is a Path that shows us home, and for me the (my) American Flag Promotes Account-ability

I worked for 40 years in manufacturing. I got paid to do my job. If I would protest something while working ,and being paid employer, I would probably be fired or suspended. I was being paid to do my job . Football players are paid to play football not protest or make statements. I pay to watch players play football. I can care less about what else they think Do it on their own time. Players are disrespecting the flag when kneeling during the Anthem. Put your dam hand over your heart and respect the Anthem, protest off the clock.

  • John Copeland - 4 years ago

No No, Hell No! I defended this country from 79 till 86. Everyone needs to respect the Anthem. It is a disgrace to us to knell that served. Stand up and pledge the flag! Protest on you're own time!

  • Anita Palmer - 4 years ago

I think the players, coaches and owners should be speaking out now. Waiting until a football game is too late. I can understand the reason for taking a knee, the protest. BUT, the Steeler organization can have a greater impact on Pittsburgh and Steeler Nation by speaking as a team, now. They, as a team would have a greater impact acting in solidarity and understanding. They can do so much to by teaching how a team with much diversity in it can stand together and be a better example to young fans. Football is their job. Young fans admire the players.....they are heroes to some. So before their job’s start, rise above and give people something else to admire about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

  • Emily Knollsted - 4 years ago

I agree John! If these guys are going to kneel, great! Just back it up with some action. Everyone wants to talk and scream their point, but nobody wants to roll up their sleeves and do the heavy lifting.

Everyone needs to turn off the news, stop posting junk on social media, and fix the problem.

We all need to be limited to 30 minutes of news a day!!! Like da good ole days. You know when we actually talked to each other and ate dinner together and had block parties (where the police were invited!!)

Can any of us imagine watching our parents sit down and watch CNN or FOX the whole day? Heck, I didn’t know what party my dad voted for until I was late 20s.

My point - the media has its hooks in all of us.... a twisted sorta matrix-style movie

  • John Tonez - 4 years ago

When it is all said and done, there is always more said than done.

Prime example! Kneeing is the saying, not doing!

What are these guys doing to improve relations with law enforcement in the inner city? What are they doing to encourage educational programs that will help end the cycle?

If you kneel, show me what you’ve to to fix the problem. Watching millionaires kneel for 1-2 minutes a week doesn’t fix the problem. It just divides more people.

Donate an endorsement deal to restoring peace in the streets. Develop programs that encourage teenagers to learn a trade or prepare them for college.

Just like the rioters, many of these actions (like kneeling) are actually counterproductive.

  • Edward A Ruszkowski - 4 years ago

Knee on your own time not your employer. They should be fired. Many companies use social media to evaluate new and present employees and use it as a reason to hire and fire.

  • Just watching for Football - 4 years ago

I tune in to watch football, I never watch the pregame because I am not watching for anyone's political or justice issue. I am there for the game. I prefer we not disrespect fellow Americans but I'm not going to watch it happen.

  • Joe Maluchnik - 4 years ago

As I white person, what right do I have to tell a black person what is the proper way to protest and what isn't? What I do know, as a veteran and soldier, I fought for the ideals, beliefs, and hopes that the flag is supposed to represent. Trump, the current Republican Party, and many police officers across the country have tarnished exactly what veterans fought for. It was never about a flag, it was about giving all people the same rights that that flag is supposed to represent. I understood Kaepernick's message from the beginning and hopefully, more people do now. It was peaceful and must have worked because people are still talking about it. With all that said, yes I support the protest and respect their decision to do so.

  • Rob Rock - 4 years ago

I tune in to watch the game. I could care less about a player's opinion or causes.

  • Don Johnson - 4 years ago

Retired Army. 22 years, served in Desert Storm and love my country more than anything. I can't believe all these Vets who fought for freedom but when those freedoms are expressed take issue with it. Don't agree with taking a knee during the anthem but I also don't want to live in a country where everyone has to stand. That's not what any of us fought for. My brothers didn't just die for the flag, they died for freedom. Whether I agree with it or not, kneeling for the anthem is freedom.

  • Alvin S. Kornegay Jr. - 4 years ago

I was in Military & have no problem with that.
All it took was one White person to say it was bad. And pass the deal. I guess they have never been the Military. But that there rights. And the flag, I remember read that blacks back in the day, was gonna get 40 acres & a Mule.
    That did go though.
    If not now...when?

  • Gwen - 4 years ago

I do NOT want to see any disrespect of the flag. They should protest on their own time. I am not allowed to share any political thoughts at work and neither should they.

  • David Bakkila - 4 years ago

As anyone who ACTUALLY cares knows, players taking a knee are doing so TO CALL ATTENTION TO the justice system in America that let's some police officers brutalize and kill African Americans and suffer No Consequences for their actions. Only a willfully ignorant person would put their personal INACCURATE spin on it and make it about the flag and the troops. It's not about the flag and the troops. It's not about the price of hot dogs. It's not about climate change. It's not about the water level in the Great Lakes or who should be quarterback for Cleveland this year. For awhile CK sat on the bench during the anthem until an ex-Special Forces friend told him taking a knee might make more sense since that is what some Special Forces do at a memorial for a fallen comrade. It's certainly fine to get incensed about issues, but make sure you know what it is you're getting incensed about. Otherwise you make problems WHERE THERE ARE NONE. And you look like an idiot. Bless the flag and the troops! Equal justice for all!

  • Get Used To It - 4 years ago

Whether you like it or not, the kneeling or any form of protest will be greater than it ever has come the opening of the sports season. If any commissioners or owners try to control or manage the situation, it will become 5x worse. I fully expect to see all races of players kneeling come fall. Locker room pressure will be there and I believe most teammates will unify behind the vocal minority.

  • Joe Kozma - 4 years ago

I am a retired Marine Officer and a retired Chief of Police. What happened to Mr. Floyd was unforgivable. As a nation, peaceful protests are the right of every American. However, we have seen all to often high profile stars, movie, sports, TV and etc., use the media for their soapbox. As a life-long Steeler fan, I do not feel disrespecting the United States Flag by taking a knee by Steeler players is the right way to express injustice. Too many good men and women have died to preserve our freedom of speech, to demonstrate, and to help bring about the American way of life and our values. Our flag flies proudly and is a symbol of freedom. When the national anthem is played, every TRUE American should be on their feet and remember why the flag is a symbol of the freedoms we have today.

  • David Smith - 4 years ago

Why? Just shut up and play football. You make more money in a year than most people do in a lifetime. Just do your job and shut up. When you retire do all you want for the cause, but not until then. If you can't wait then do it out of uniform not representing your team and city!

  • David T Tedeski - 4 years ago
