Juneteenth will be a staple from now on. I requested the day off but hopefully the federal government will grant us this holiday. They’ve been doing their part to at least check in on government workers on a broader scale. Still haven’t heard from my supervisor about anything other than reopening. But I think he’s conservative anyway.

I learned about Juneteenth in college from a militant light-skinned black girl.

I unfortunately didn’t learn about Juneteenth until I was a full adult and only learned incrementally. Oakland, CA did a Juneteenth Festival weekend for many years and that was my introduction in my early 20s but then, I got more details a few years ago. The REAL shame is that my grandparents (who raised me) were BOTH from Texas and were born in early 1900s so you’d think I’d get my knowledge from them right?? Nope!
