If that money was used to support and educate the survivors of the miners, I'm certain that would please those lost men more than money spent to retrieve their remains!

Still think the bodies need to be recovered for the sake of the families. As far as “who pays for it,” that depends on who owns the mine: the public (ie. the government if it’s nationalized), or the private owners, especially if one or the other is negligent in causing it to happen.

Whilst I think it is a humane gesture to exhume the bodies of the deceased miners for the families, the
monies spent could be put to far better use for the living......People say the families need closure - well they know how the men died, and where they are - and by now, they would not be able to recognize their loved ones. Better to make the area a Memorial, and honour each person with an engraved photo and name and maybe a few details, so that family members could visit, and remember.

Put a memorial at the entrance to that mine. That’s what they did for Big John.

Sure, Do and spend what’s necessary to recover the bodies to help with closure with the families.
Meanwhile, also determine the root cause of this disaster and who/what should pay for the consequences.

I'd have the mine owner pay for a memorial and a Celebraion of Life Memorial party for the families of the deceased; allowing a representative of each family to say a frew words about the life of their deceased loved one.

The mine owners should pay the cost of recovering the bodies. Limited public funds should be used to help individuals and small businesses devastated by the Coronavirus.

I believe the families and community should be the ones to decide. If they are ok with a Memorial that seems like a good choice and honors them. If that seems like a betrayal then not.
The USA is very dedicated finding and returning remains of soldiers who perished in past wars. I saw a special showing this which included divers in the Adriatic Sea to find a downed fighter pilot from 1943. Those searches aren’t cheap.

I whole heartedly agree with the three previous comments, especially Maria's.

Why disrespect the bodies leave them to RIP create a memorial site with their names date of birth and day of dead Families can then have a place to visit Use the money for children education Maybe a scholarship in the name of the miners Great way to Honour their memory

Absolutely not. Just make that area a memorial site and use the money to help real living people that live in major despair each and every day.

You would do much good on living people with that kind of money. In addition, you risk many other miners’ lives in a futile and hazardous endeavor.
