Do you find it difficult to forgive?

It really depends on the offense. I honestly find it easier to forgive people who have hurt me than I am to forgive someone who hurt someone I care about.

I think, for me, it really depends on how "forgivable" the offense is. Crash my car, I'll be pissed until I talk myself down & remember that at least everyone is ok (hopefully). You rape and murder my 9 year old daughter, I do not foresee my forgiveness in your future

I said "no," but I really should have said "yes" because it does take a lot of work for me to get to a point of forgiveness. It's hard work to let go of that anger or rancor or feeling of revenge that consumes you when someone does you wrong. I always believe that forgiveness is for yourself. The other person needs to know.

Looking back on a lot of situations, I realized I haven’t really forgiven people. It’s more I’ve just let go or let the hurt drop. With therapy I’ve learned to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Like with my parents, they were great parents but there were still things that hurt me emotionally. But as baby boomer Black parents go, they were pretty progressive. My siblings and I also discussed having a talk to reintroduce ourselves to one another since we’ve all been working on ourselves emotionally.
Depending on how it’s worded and expressed, there is something brave about asking for forgiveness and forgiving.
