I use LinkedIn to check out people's credentials, keep track of former colleagues, and hunt for jobs. When considering a position change, I look for people who hold similar roles to see how my work history and education stacks up. Also, when I hear that a former colleague has been laid off, I leave a 3 or 4 line recommendation on their profile.

I've noticed more sales activity, coming through "recruiting" channels and connection requests.

I'm seeing what I think are bot driven connection requests, which is annoying noise.

I believe that I have used LinkedIn for all of these activities over the past 15+ years. Yes, there are a few over-aggressive sales "cold calls" these days, but I still get a lot of value out of the platform and try to provide meaningful content to my contacts while filtering out the leakage from Facebook. Far from perfect, but still a useful resource to me.

I get a large volume of "new opportunity" messages from recruiters that don't interest me in the slightest, but which I happily pass along to qualified friends who are looking for something new

Letting folks know about places to get involved in industry projects and tracking activities I’m interested in.
