After I graduated from college, I worked with other 20 somethings. We worked and socialized together. It seemed like everyone was f***ing someone at the job.

I ALWAYS HEARD, NEVER GET YOUR HONEY WHERE YOU GET YOUR MONEY. I WAS JUST STARTING TO LEARN ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT BACK IN THE DAY AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE THE MIND FIELD. WHEN DOES CONSENSUAL SEX BECOME HARASSMENT?

CONGRATS ON SPOTIFY...Getting to the money, y’all.
As always, the Reading Rainbow was a WORD. Our consequences are different than whites people on every level.
Recently, one of our kids “friends” created a clone of my IG acct and reached out to SEVERAL of my followers, most of whom were really good friends, to ask for money to help with “my health problems”.
They reached out telling different stories, some messages said I need a heart transplant, others saying that I was going to be put on a respirator because I have covid again. They sent out those lies, asking my friends for money to help out.
Lucky for me, the people that they reached out to knew me well enough to know that my grown ass tone wouldn’t be the same as that of the 19 year old idiot that had cloned my IG.
A lot of them reached out to let me know that someone was swindling, etc.
I was talking to my group of (white female) work friends on our weekly Wine and Zoom meeting and told them my woes to let them know to block the person. Amazingly enough, they were like, “Call the police! That’s a felony if it went over state lines!”.
It took LITERALLY 20 minutes of me explaining to these broads that calling the police on a black person is putting that person in harms way. Yes, she was a fucking idiot for cloning my IG, and even more so for trying to swindle. But that is NOT a death sentence.
I usually don’t bother explaining this shit to whites, but in this case, I felt it was HELLA important to get the point across:The stakes are higher when you have brown skin.
JUST like if you’re a woman, and you are walking to your car alone, the stakes are higher for YOU than a man of your exact same size and build.
Calling the police on black people is high stakes because the wrong police officer will look at us and see a criminal. The stakes are high for a woman walking alone at night, no matter her build, because the wrong man will look at her and see a victim.
Even if you aren’t a criminal, even if you aren’t a victim. The wrong person can make life REALLY tough for you, undeservedly.
It wasn’t until I put it that way that the gaggle of would-be Karens (I know, not all Karen’s, lol) finally got it.
So, yeah, our consequences are different. It’s not right, it’s not fair, it simply is.
