One of the advantages of using the mail order pharmacy, I use Walgreens, is that they will send you a 90 day supply and just charge you the co-pay for the 30 day supply.

All my family's prescriptions are filled at our grocery store pharmacy; a place I'm intentionally going for other packaged commodities anyway, rather than a standalone pharmaretail operation

Another reason for pharmacies in the back of the store is as a crime prevention measure. The combination of money and narcotics may be tempting, but requiring someone to walk to and from the back of the store may discourage robberies. Same thing with gas stations that allow you to pay at the pump instead of inside. It's about employee and customer safety. And curb pick up can cut down on shoplifting as well.
