What features/ports do you want on 2021 MacBook Pro?

Magsafe is definite missed feature for me. However, I do want it to also still support USB-c charging so that you can do either. That way if you forgot your magsafe charger, but have a usb-c charger, you are still able to charge.

I really miss the popout tabs on the charger for wrapping the cord onto. I hope that returns.

I would like to see at least 1 USB-A 3.1 Gen2 port. I would also like to see an HDMI port, so that I don't have to get out an adaptor every time I need one of those ports for a quick task.

Please put some effort into BUILD QUALITY. The screen on my latest broke the second time I took it out of the house and Apple REFUSED to cover it under warranty. Charged me $600 to repair, the whole machine is flimsy cheesy cheap build.

    1) Mag safe HAS to come back. It is a killer feature they should have never parted with. 2) I agree that having the ability to see the battery strength when Macbook is closed in clamshell would be killer, especially now that they last so long. It is all the more important to be able to see battery strength if you know you have been riding the batter for the last five or so hours...3) Apple logo. How did marketing at Apple not win this argument. Apple getting rid of this feature was nuts. Now that things are so energy efficient, they ought to bring it back WITH customizable LED lights in the Apple logo...that would be amazing. Basically, take any 2015 Macbook Pro's + a few USB-C's and all of the updates above and I bet a have a killer machine. I'd call it the MacBook Pro Model Classic. Watch the internet explode!

Make the trackpad compatible with the Apple Pencil . It'd be great with Photoshop . A tapered design like the MacBook Air would also be great as it feels more ergonomic when typing . Perhaps move the computer to the back of the thicker screen and have the base for battery and keyboard only ?

USB-C only is fine, I cannot understand the whining for the may adapters to carry.
I bought one (1) adapter only - a multi adapter and I am done. If I need legacy equipment, then it is this one adapter that helps me out. And it consumes less space then each I/O as a single adapter.
Now what do I use most from it: very often the Ethernet, and sometimes the MicroSD adapter.
Few times outdated equipment might require an USB-A, but this is fading out.
More important than this adapter questions is a smaller power supply. Credit Card Size, multiple connectors with power distribution for Mac and iPad ...

I wolle Love to have not only keep usb c ports on both sides but to have 6 of them. 3 on each side.

Glowing Apple logo would be awesome!

    Touch screen

  • autarch princeps - 3 years ago

    I like the touchbar
And while I like being able to charge from both sides, USB-C is just such a useless connector. I don’t have anything to connect to it, just USB-A for peripherals and DP for monitors

I'm struggling with almost all of these comments. If a power user has a jillion external things connected then naturally they need to have an external device to manage them. Such as a CalDigit T3+(a wonderful thing); but let's not forget that Thunderbolt 4 is around the corner and what we should really be coveting.

So IMO let's simply go with dual bus T4 sides with 3 connections per side instead of 2. Yes only one each side is T4 but the others being USB4 open new opportunities. This allows extraordinary flexibility to end users in so many areas; and third party vendors as well.

For me the transition to USB-C from MagSafe was a non-issue - albeit one I heard the complainers whine about and wondered if I would be one of them. Nope! USB-C connectors when compared to many others are much easier to make water or stupidme proof and have the greater potential to make them dumb ass resistant. In defense of the dumb asses: You need this!

In regards to facial recognition yes yes yes - but not as an either or. Figure out a way to dump the OLED bar and have a fingerprint authenticity device as well.

As to the camera - have any of you actually used a 4K camera on your computer? They are simply AMAZING! And at the levels Apple is buying the modules we are talking about a non-cost differential to go to 1080p and a less than $10 retail bump to 4K. Does this mean you broadcast all your zoom or team calls in 4K? Absolutely not! Instead you go to widescreen, zoom and frame so that your meeting participation is at a higher level than all the Dell folks. Hey dude, is that an Apple?

I love where Apple is going with their proprietary storage. It's time to bring the price down and the only way is to produce much more. So let's make it competitively compelling and figure out how to make those same NVMe modules work in a soldered external container. This could be a instantaneous zero overhead or lag True Time Machine that utilized T4. The economies of scale tilt this to be a competitive advantage that the competition has zero defense for.

Lastly, continue to hone in on the video performance as an option on these units. The only thing propping up the demand for high end non-Mac laptops is gaming. If Apple can breach that divide with a emulator and tower video card performance - the lower production levels of portable and many tower gaming PCs will collapse in favor of Apple products.

    That's my two cents.

    Ethernet port is a must.
At least 4 USB-C latest generation ports with power and display delivery.
A built in Qi wireless charging spot for peripherals (wireless charging Magic Mouse, etc) and iPhones. (MagSafe?).

Please remove PWM technology on all type of mac display because those of us who are sensitive to PWM cannot use the devices at all. Return back the DC technology to macs. I am stuck with macbook pro 13 early 2015 (DC) because I cannot buy and use the new PWM macs display. PWM cause severe headache and nausea as it trigger our eye iris to expand and contract thousand time per second. Kindly consider thanks

Sharp bezels on existing MacBooks are uncomfortable to rest wrists/arms on. They are also easy to break (including the display): I’d like to see new portables that can be handled normally. A replaceable battery would deal with the swollen batteries that have plagued my more recent two Mac portable.

I'd prefer touch id over face id, and who the heck needs a trackpad that big?? A smaller trackpad.
