Do you think Apple will release a replacement for the discontinued HomePod?

They've focused a lot on the homepod features and the smart home technology this year. Dolby atmos with apple tv. Making the smart home universal with project Connected Home Over IP. There's no way they are throwing all of that away. Maybe they are just stepping away so they can re-approach the smart home market and be more prepared this time, and then come out with the homepod 2.

I have two stereo pairs of HomePods, bedroom and living room. And sound is very good. I have HomePod mini as well, but it doesn’t compare in sound quality.

Apple simply can’t understand you can have several product lines. For some price is more important and prefer a simpler model, for some sound quality is the important thing.

It’s like a real estate company only built very luxury penthouses in a house, and then complaining the luxury penthouses have a low demand... and in next housing project they only build small budget one bedroom apartments... :-)

Apple won't sell another full sized airpod, two reasons, first mini is selling beter, two over the ear headphones can do high quality sound too.

They should, but people won’t buy if Siri can’t do anything! Siri need the spy kids to install the 3rd Brain or something because I shouldn’t have to learn programming as a consumer to use Siri!

I love my HomePod. But honestly, people don’t seem to wanna spend that kind of money for good sound. I don’t think that Apple is going to replace it although I really wish they would.

I have loved that audio goodness from pairing two full size homepods. I got two minis for the bedrooms and they sound great for their size and better than anything that size from the competition. They don’t sound as crisp or as good as the I’ll size HomePods. It’s like comparing the airpods max with the airpods.

Maybe not what I “think” will happen, but I hope that Apple will release a combined Apple TV and HiFi soundbar. 1 more expensive sound-bar with clear competition and minis that can add surround AND affordable enough to enable whole-hone sound makes a lot of sense to me.

Us poor people cant afford o upgrade all the time, back in the 50's to 70's stuff was made in America and last for 20+ years, we did not need to upgrade all the time.

I honestly don't know what I think. On one hand, the move seems obvious that Apple realizes the HomePod was never going to have very high market share unless they dropped the price to something like $150, and even then, it is 3 years old. It almost seems like Apple was conceding that consumers were not willing to put down money for high quality sound. On the other hand, Apple still considers high quality sound to be a worthy endeavor, e.g., AirPods Max. That is what makes it difficult for me to come up with one answer. Part of it as well is that I have not heard how the HomePod Mini sounds compared to HomePod. If a stereo-paired HomePod Mini sounds nearly as good as a single HomePod, then, I can easily see why they're not making any more HomePods, but I doubt the Mini has the bass that the HomePod has.

It’s a sad day. Enjoy The stereo pairing amazing! The sound quality amazing. Perhaps a new one that has Thread radio built-in, like the mini does. And perhaps Dolby speakers wireless for Dolby surround, like Bose does. #Hopeful

A HomePod Max, with even better audio quality and an even better implementation of computational audio, is what is needed. Possibly it might be conceived to work with some new implementation of AppleTV hardware.

Apple should create HomePod that acts as home theater speaker for TV. Silly to have sophisticated high quality speaker that can’t connect to TV.

I hope so. I do think a combo product with Apple TV makes most sense, or a sound bar. Wishfully thinking they build a router into it at well. My whole home hub, or even like a pod for my home.

    Apple will buy Sonos

Brand the HomePod Mini as the regular HomePod. And then add either a mid-sized or full-sized HomePod Max. This transition would match the AirPods line.

  • Apple Insider - 3 years ago

It will be released under the Apple TV brand that looks like Sonos sound base (supports Atmos) and has built-in short throw projector

Yes, there is a 2nd generation HomePod coming, could be this month or the fall at a higher price
