Grade Dr. Oz's 'Jeopardy' guest hosting debut

The negatives all concern Dr. Oz's personality or traits. Judge him on his job. First, with one exception, he finished every board, moved the game along. And without making any of it about himself, as Couric did [among other faults]. He respected the game and, of course, Alex. Not much more you can ask of a host. Give him a break.

  • Bob - 3 years ago

All of the guest hosts so far have been competent. Oz is middle-of-the-pack, with Ken Jennings at the top and Katie Couric at the bottom. Stay tuned.

  • Paul Espersen - 3 years ago

Dr. Oz is anti-fact and anti-science. Total fail for Jeopardy! Worst choice ever.

  • Jeffrey Charles Harvey - 3 years ago

Dr. O is just that..A Dr. Leave game shows to game show hosts! Which he is not! For sure!..Not to sure!

  • L Cellana - 3 years ago

I think Dr Oz has a good strong voice and did a great job. He moved along and stayed on task. He related well with the contestants and even made nice compliments about them.
He would be a wise choice to take Alex's place.
Plus he had a popular day time talk show and did well with it.
He has a nice stable family he is a good example for the public
He says it like it is

  • Allen - 3 years ago

The haters don't understand that Dr. Oz was a personal friend of Alex. They used to socialise together.

  • Jennifer - 3 years ago

I thought Dr. Oz did a great job. I don't understand all the hate - not something Alex would want. Katie C., on the other hand was terrible. She sounded like a kindergarten teacher. Fine person...not Jeopardy quality.

  • David Bryant - 3 years ago

Terrible! Why would you put a person who makes his living lying on a fact based game show?

  • Debra Burkhart - 3 years ago

Yuck. Alex Trebeck"s legacy deserves better. So do all of his fans.

  • Jake Zimms - 3 years ago

Dr. Oz is competent and did well, not unexpected, but he seems to be doing this as a fun-time distraction as he has more important things to do. By even choosing to do the hosting diminishes his status somewhat even if in his real profession some people are turned off because of his challenges, which reveal their lack of awareness and point to their cognitive limitations.

  • Amy B - 3 years ago

He should concentrate on being a doctor and get out of TV. Pick a career and stick with it. He comes across as fake in his voice inflection. Since my father was a broadcaster in both radio and TV I know what I am talking about. Go back to the hospital Dr. Oz

  • Bobby G - 3 years ago

Oz is a fraud. I’m disgusted that Jeopardy let him host.

  • Lew - 3 years ago

No problem with Dr. Oz. I thought his timing was best overall, except for a slight delay after contestants provided the "Questions". Katie made the game feel elementary. Ken was fine, but may have been a little anxious, hurried.

  • Dianne - 3 years ago

I like Ken Jennings best of all. Can't imagine Anderson Cooper or Katie Couric. I have watched Jeopardy since it came on before Alex Trebek. If certain people are put in I would not ever watch again. Didn't mind Mike or Dr. Oz.

  • Linda - 3 years ago

I did not like Dr. Oz as a host. He was calling incomplete answers as correct too quickly, and his manner is very brusque and not supportive of the contestants.
And sending donations to his own foundation seemed self-serving.
So far I much prefer Ken Jennings and Mike Richards, they bring their own personalities but respect the show. Maybe if each is too busy they could split hosting duties?
Katie Couric was all right. I still would like to see LeVar Burton take a turn, and am looking forward to Mayim Bialik, Anderson Cooper, and Sanjay Gupta.

  • Ira - 3 years ago

I think Dr Oz is very good, 2nd choice is Mike Richards or Ken Jenings, Katie is a F-

  • Donna - 3 years ago

I don’t care about any controversy with Dr Oz. I had a hard time watching because his voice was harsh and abrasive. I’m sure it was not his intention, but the tone and cadence of his voice did not fit well. So far, I have liked Jennings and loved Richards. Couric did well, but not for the long haul. I like the idea of rotating hosts regularly.

  • Jim K - 3 years ago

Oz is wooden, unimaginitive. Couric.too peppy, Richards OK, clearly understands and honors the show, Jennings was maybe a bit raw, but having him on the podium was like having Babe Ruth doing play-by-play at your little league game.

    So far, it's Jennings

  • Edward - 3 years ago

Just give the job to Jennings, he's the best host so far. The producer came close.

  • Judy - 3 years ago

I think Dr. Oz is by far the best host yet!! For those who don't like what he promotes then quit watching his show! Not once has he promoted anything that I've seen so you aren't even judging him for the right reasons. Ken Jennings & Katie Couric have been the worst ever, neither one of them have a personality or sense of humor. They come across cold and detached. I have watched Jeopardy since it began, even before Alex Trebek and the only way I will stop watching it is if you put Couric or Jennings in there. I'm really looking forward to seeing Anderson Cooper in there. But really does it matter who is the host as long as they do a good job?

  • Peter Short - 3 years ago

I think it is a great idea to have a series of guest hosts. Some Good, some not so good. What it makes me realize is that Alex Trebek was a first class host in every way. A great Canadian export! During the next weeks while others are guest-hosting, just remember, it's very easy to turn off the TV for 30 minutes.

  • iknowmaybe - 3 years ago

Stop hating you liberal fools. Leave the dude alone.

  • Barbara Gilmanm - 3 years ago

Dr O has a lot of baggage . . . he was fake enthusiasm. Mike Richards was excellent but he knows the ropes and hosting is not his real job. Couric was okay, but strained and humorless. We haven't found the next host yet

  • Carey - 3 years ago

I liked him way better than Katie Couric. Put Mike Richards in permanently. He is head and shoulders above all the "guest" hosts. It smacks of gimmick-y. Does anyone who is famous and already has a set career just get to say they want to guest host and you slot them in? The rest of the choices are equally unimpressive.

  • Marti A Jeopardy fan - 3 years ago

DR. was OK but not a contender in my opinion. I hope Mike Richards is seriously being considered. He has class, grace, intelligence and a love for our wonderful host, Alex Trebek. He seemed so relaxed and natural in his "audition." My least liked was Katie because I don't agree with her beliefs and don't approve of her statements prior to her week as the host. Too controversial and too liberal. Your viewers are of no political standing or leaning conservative. I feel you will lose viewers if you go with her. Richards or Jennings are the only choices so far, I believe.

  • Wilma Wheeler - 3 years ago

DR OZ has been a great host for Jeopardy. He understands what he doing. Those who criticize him, his show, and his medical knowledge are people with small minds. My opinion. Where did you get your medical degree.

  • Shelby Cullom - 3 years ago

He was amazing. In my opinion the best thus far. My friends think so as well. Great choice!!

  • William Cleveland - 3 years ago

I have never liked this man - quack science and medicine! I watched him the first night and he drove me crazy. Have not watched him since the first night. I certainly hope once tjhis stint is over he will never be on again!

  • TJ - 3 years ago

    Love Dr Oz????????

  • JP - 3 years ago

Dislike these few weeks & again will wait to see if they will have a host respectable enough to follow Alex. I've watched Jeopardy many many years. Find a permanent replacement soon. My vote is for Ken.

  • Annie B. - 3 years ago

Was in another room when the show started this week so I didn't hear who was hosting. As I listened I became curious who was talking because I didn't care for him. Since my opinion formed before I knew it was Dr. Oz, there were no predetermined judgements attached. I've been watching since the beginning in 1964 when Art Fleming was the host and was there for it after each break when Alex Trebek was taking over the job. My preferences for hosting traits are complete authenticity (please, no show biz shine) and respect for all of the contestants..

  • Sandra - 3 years ago

Canceling Jeopardy until the snake oil salesman is gone. He’s the antithesis of this show’s fact based tenet.

  • Jane G - 3 years ago

Long time Jeopardy fan. After two days think Dr Oz is doing very well. In fact, he is my favorite of the guest hosts to date.

  • Carokyn - 3 years ago

Comes across cold, not warm to the contestants and generally the opposite of Jennings, & Couric. One week is enough of him. Does not present a good Jeopardy demeanor ❣️

  • Barbara i Loftus - 3 years ago

I am not impressed with Dr. OZ., he's just going through the motions. He doesn't come across as a fun guy, he's just blah.Hes not the right type to carry a show like Jeopardy.

  • Swasey - 3 years ago

Love dr oz I don’t like coury he is great keep hem

  • Rex James - 3 years ago

I liked Jennings best, then Oz!

  • SusieQ - 3 years ago

Everyone has a background, why criticize them over a TV show? My attitude is not negative and therefore I do not threaten.
Dr. Oz had the spunk and enthusiasm, prior TV experience and it showed fantastical - he left me with an excellent feeling as an excellent choice! He definitely knows what he's doing!
I have watched Jeopardy since it came on back when - he's an excellent choice!

  • JEANINE M. ZAVISLAK - 3 years ago

No contender for Jeopardy host. Either Jennings or Richards. I can't even imagine anybody else. Jeopardy is my favorite show, because it has educational.value. i would love to enjoy it with a host that is able to deliver the goods.

  • Rebecca Ferrin - 3 years ago

Better than Couric, but a very controversial figure that is ruining the show for so many loyal fans. What were they thinking? I personally was routing for LaVar Burton.

  • Krissy - 3 years ago

Quack quack. Dr. Creepy, go away!

  • Cris - 3 years ago

Dr. Odd - no way. Ever. ????

  • Amber Phillips - 3 years ago

Dr. Oz is articulate, knowledgeable and natural as host of Jeopardy. He is far better than Katie Couric. You may not like him but he's doing a SUPERB job!

  • Bob - 3 years ago

Dr. Oz reeks of fakery, fakery as a stand-in for truth and fakery in his interest in the contestant. He needs to Febreezed out of the show.

  • Ltl deer - 3 years ago

I will not watch Jeopardy til all of these scheduled guest hosts are finished. I have no respect for any of them and can't believe any of them were chosen to step in for such a class act as Alex Trebek. I will watch again if Ken Jennings is permanent host. Jeopardy is at risk of becoming a trash game show!

  • Bruce Sannino - 3 years ago

Dump Oz. He's an unqualified b*****iter that, like another unqualified b******iter recently in the public eye, has only been at successful b*****iting.

  • William Hughes - 3 years ago

I didnt watch, dont like the man. I wouldt believe him if his tongue came notorized. Let me know when he is gone so I can watch Jeopardy again. Sony you made a terrible mistake letting the Oz host.

  • Micky - 3 years ago

He’s a good physician, from what he tells us. He’s just ANOTHER Oprah “star”. He and his daughter Daphnie are No Talent want to be’s.
Good Lord two weeks of him will be brutal after first show with him as host I absolutely will not watch

  • Mar B - 3 years ago

He was very bad. Actually gave the outgoing champ an unfair advantage by calling “Holy Roman Empire” correct when the right answer was “Holy Roman Emperor”.
I am going to boycott the next 9 episodes because he is NOT good as replacement host of a revered Alex Trebek.

  • Anitak Kovalsky - 3 years ago

The weight loss and other ads you see on Facebook in other places saying that Dr. Oz endorses the product are fake. They look legitimate but they are not. They use the Sharks from Shark Tank and other celebrities to construct these false advertisements.

I believe that alot of this criticism is from cancel culture. It's political and has to do with his endorsement of hydroxychloroquine.

In regard to the school issue, Dr. Oz was right in the sense that we have lost more children to suicide than to Covid during the pandemic, and rates of domestic violence and child abuse have also increased, not to mention those who are going hungry. Also, the education of our children has suffered, especially those with special needs. Virtual learning for young children will never the place of face-to-face learning. The consequences of that have yet to be revealed as we move forward.

His hosting so far is top notch, though many here will not admit it.

  • John Wayland - 3 years ago

I can't get over the many "Penis enhancement" ads I get with Dr. Oz in them. I had prostate cancer and I made some inquiries re: ED and got on a Facebook list that gets me ads that are basically pornography and he is endorsing their product!

  • Cheryl Gies - 3 years ago

He was ok spoke quickly so got all answers in.i would still prefer Mike Roger's or Ken Jennings

  • Davvee - 3 years ago

I thought he did ok for a first timer. I never watched his show or paid any attention to who he is, but it seems to me that whoever he is shouldn't matter much when rating his performance as a host. I think Ken Jennings is best so far and Katie did a decent job.

  • Aram - 3 years ago

Oz is a miserable host. Drop him tomorrow. It's only a matter of time before he uses this forum for more dubious ideas. And his stage presence stinks as well.

  • Mary - 3 years ago

Too soon to tell but he did talk a little fast...so far Ken Jennings is best.my opinion only. Have watched jeopardy all the years it has been on..no one will ever take the place of Alex..

  • Art - 3 years ago

Can't rate because F'n March Madness takes F'n president according to our F'n TV station.

  • Jake from State Farm - 3 years ago

OZ is one of four quack doctors the others are Jill, Fauci and Phil. Everyone in production or syndication knows you never audition on air. Stop messing with the primal forces of nature, pick a pro and make the change now don't fix what ain't broken!

  • TV viewer - 3 years ago

I tried to view with an open mind, but it is day one. So far he doesn't fit the role. Of course the host is to be quick and appeal to the general viewer. So far I am not a fan.

  • Laura L Bilek - 3 years ago

He is a phoney and a spreader of false information. Will not watch till this jerk is gone.

  • Sylvia Glenn - 3 years ago

I will reluctantly give up jeopardy while the liar who has repeatedly tried to con watchers on his own show. I heartily dislike him and his dishonesty. Trebec would be ashamed to have Oz on his show. Please get rid of him!!!!!!!

  • Msueh - 3 years ago

Did worlds better than liberal couric!

  • Fern Finley - 3 years ago

I think he did a great job for his first day. Those first-day jitters were exhibited by all of the previous guest hosts. Overall, I would give him 4 stars.

  • just watch cuz it came on when i turnrd on the TV - 3 years ago

I just caught final Jeopardy but i think he did a greta job.

  • Myra - 3 years ago

Dr. Oz present the questions in a strong voice, but there were times that he spoke too fast, and I had a little difficulty hearing the complete question.

  • Avid watcher - 3 years ago

Come on folks it was his first time out. He was self assured & credible in his delivery. Why be so critical?? Truthfully it’s easy to find fault while sitting home on your couch! Give the guy a break!

  • Marilyn Garrett - 3 years ago

Not one bit impressed- He is a charlatan in our eyes- will give up the show for the next two weeks.

  • Concerned viewer - 3 years ago

I tried to give him a fair shot, but I was really turned off when he appeared disappointed when the Male contestants got final Jeopardy wrong but shocked and amazed when the woman got it right.

I also don't think a charitable donation to your "own" charity is legitimately a charitable donation. Imho. Give it to some place you don't control the funds.

  • Leeza winters - 3 years ago

He sucks. I like nothing about his presentation.
