More time is needed to test this vaccine. A shocking report by Judical Watch in the US can be found here : http://www.judicialwatch.org/documents/2008/JWReportFDAhpvVaccineRecords.pdf

"There are numerous critics of the Gardasil vaccine, but perhaps the most
important is Dr. Diane Harper. Not only is she a specialist on HPV, she also helped to develop the Gardasil vaccine. In a television interview with CBS News on May 7, 2008, the doctor said that she viewed making the vaccination mandatory as “A real danger zone,” adding: “ . . . the vaccine has not been out long enough for us to have postmarketing surveillance to really understand what all of the potential side effects are going to be.”

While Dr. Harper said she believes that the vaccine will be beneficial in the
long run, she cautions: “To put in process a place that says you must have this vaccine means that you must be part of a big public experiment and so we can’t do that. We can’t have that until we have more data. It is unacceptable to mandate any vaccine without first testing it for effectiveness, safety, and long-term side effects. The Gardasil vaccine may be an important step in preventing cervical cancer, but it is a step that may cause
    other harms.

The vaccine has been linked to 14 deaths of young girls in the US so far.

"An 11-year-old female was vaccinated “within the
past month” in approximately May 2007 with a first
dose of Gardasil. Subsequently, 3 days after
vaccination the patient presented to an ER . . . the
physician from the hospital said that “the death was
due to an anaphylactic reaction to Gardasil.”
    VAERS ID: 280163-1 (D)"

"A 18-year-old female patient was vaccinated with the first
dose of Gardasil . . . In the evening of the same day she was
found unconscious (or liveless) [sic] by the mother.
Resuscitation was performed by the emergency doctor but
was unsuccessful, i.e. the patient finally died . . . The cause
of death of this patient remains totally unclear.
    VAERS ID: 300741-1 (D)."

Vioxx was pulled after five years on the market and after contributing to 27,785 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths, in addition to other events, as estimated by the FDA.

One death linked to the vaccine is one too many. Don't let our young girls be guinea pigs. For the love of god, please don't.

As an old grandfather I'm apalled that my grandaughters are not to be protected by the State from this disease. How much lower can we go?

As a human being and a father i am outraged at Minister Mary Harney at her decision to scrap the cervical cancer vaccine program .It is hypocritical of this current Government and all its ministers to allow this to happen in the same week we learned that the Government are to spend, if they havent already spent 7.5million euro on refurbishing their SECOND i repeat SECOND jet .They are an absolute disgrace to do this when they have waisted so much money on needless and silly projects, they should be ashamed of themselves. WHY OH WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS ?

As a parent of a girl who would have benefited from this vaccine, I'm appalled that Minister Harney would put my daughters future health at risk so as to shore up builders and bankers.

Of course Mary Harney thought yesterday - Election euphoria day - would be a good day to bury bad news, bit like Jo Moore in Blair's gov. thought about 9/11. While she fell on her sword, there's probably no chance of that happening our hard-necked Minister of Health and Children. She just doesn't seem to get it, that her policies hurt people and are anti-health and well-being and are based on false economy. How many lives can be saved through a cervical cancer vaccine like the one proposed for all 6th Class girls next year? This pittance saving of €10 million in the grand scheme of things is certainly not worth risking one death from cervical cancer that might have been prevented. PPARS and FISP squandering come to mind - both dismissed as a drop in the ocean at the time, despite megabucks compared to the savings effected by the proposed cuts in cancelling or deferring vaccine programmes.
Death by a thousand cuts seems to be the modus operandi of these budgetary measures, and I think we ain't seen nothing yet - there are a lot more cutbacks buried in the budget morass that haven't surfaced but are eclipsed by global events.
As a public health nurse it is sickening to see the cuts affecting public health and preventive healthcare, investment in which would be cost effective in the long run, keeping hospital stays down and enabling genuine care in the home. The minister constantly pays lip service to supporting people to stay in their homes but the lack of adequate home care packages make this commitment farcical. It's no wonder frontline staff get very cynical and demoralised by the consequences of the budget cutbacks and have to deal with anxious patients on a daily basis who worry about their future.
