Who would you choose as full-time 'Jeopardy' host?

When I saw him on Jeopardy I swear he was a clone of Alex and he had the same voice. As far as I am concerned, he is the only one that I can see that can fill Alex's shoes.

  • Susan - 3 years ago

Its definitely between Mike Richards and Buzzy Cohen so far. I loved their energy and enthusiasm and genuine love of the game! I havent seen Lavar Burton or Mayim Balik yet, so Im still open but i do know that if Ken Jennings gets the job, I will loose my lunch. His personality, attitude and voice make me cringe.

  • Suzan Reiner - 3 years ago

Why hasn't Brad Rutter been given a guest host slot? He's the all-time highest money winner, and he has a wonderful presence on TV. Other than Brad, my choice is a tie between Ken and Mike. As a contestant on Jeopardy myself who tried out just after Ken had his final show taped, the production people had nothing but wonderful things to say about him, and I feel that Mike did an excellent job when he hosted. Just can't decide!

  • Larry Machen - 3 years ago

I am a longtime fan of Jeopardy, and thought that there could never be a better host than Alex,
I still believe that. There has to be a new permanent host chosen. In my humble opinion, Levar Burton should not even be allowed to guest host, due to the sleazy, sniveling, whining, way he got named to a guest host slot. It seemed to me that he was announcing that he should be named the new permanent host, even before his 2 weeks guest hosting. Please do not get me wrong. I think that Burton has done some good acting in his roles, and the PBS children's reading show was a good platform to show some diversity, Jeopardy needs a more rounded person to host than one who whimpered all through the media to get on the list. I liked Mike Richards best so far. Buzzy Cohen is my #2 choice. Aaron Rogers had a good run, and I believe he could grow in the job as well as anyone else on the dais so far. Who ever gets the call will most certainly have to make the job his own, and win the audience's love and respect. The show is still the best game show ever, and Alex did that. It reminds me of the years after Bear Bryant left the U of Alabama football coaching job. There are people who still say no one can compare to Bryant even though the current coach is doing really well even in comparison to "The Bear". Jeopardy will get the right person for the job; yet it still may take a bit longer. We still have a couple of viable candidates. Let us see where it goes. It should be fun to watch.

  • Mike - 3 years ago

Liked Aaron Rodgers best. Please take Joe Buck. Please. He's got the voice, but even I would make less mistakes than he does on sports broadcasts.
Looking forward to LeVar Burton; like him a lot on Reading Rainbow; comes across as friendly and knowledgeable. Just cannot get used to him without the gold headband.

  • Michele Simmen - 3 years ago

I feel and many I have asked that we like the every 2 week rotation. NO ONE CAN FILL ALEX' SHOES SO ROTATE AND IT MAKES FOR A VARIETY. NO ONE IS PERFECT BUT MANY ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS SO NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT ROTATION. IT IS THE GAME THAT WE LIKE AND MANY CAN DO IT AND SOME CAN'T
SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS FEEL THIS WAY ALSO.
    AMEN

Of the hosts so far, I really liked Mike Richards and Buzzy Cohen. I love Anderson Cooper but do not think he would do it full time and I liked Aaron Rodgers. I really would hate to see Ken Jennings get the permanent job - he comes across as too smug and arrogant and not someone I would like to watch on a long term basis. He is perfect on the Chase where those snarky traits are what they are looking for.

  • David - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings should NOT be named host. He doesn’t come across as personable and seemed smug when he was host. Also after watching him on ABC’s the Chase, yeah he’s the furthest thing from Alex.

  • C. - 3 years ago

    LOOKING FORWARD TO
I’m really looking forward to LeVar Burton. He brings professionalism and excitement to everything he does. I’m interested to see how Robin Roberts does too. I like her hosting skills, but news is different from game shows, so we’ll see!

    THE BEST
#1: That being said, the person I think who has done the best so far *is* in news: Anderson Cooper. He was definitely a natural! He was well paced and had a great presence. Lots of people forget that he actually was a game show host before he started at CNN. Although they didn’t prejudge him as harshly as Dr. Oz, there were a certain number of folks who disliked him out of the gate simply due to preconceived notions of him from his show. But by far, Anderson has been the best guest host as of this writing (in mid-May).

#2-#3: I also enjoyed Ken and Mike. They both really know the game obviously. Clearly Mike doesn’t intend to move from producing to hosting though. Ken was really good as expected.

#4 Bill Whitaker had a pleasant soothing voice. I did quite like him. But I understand people’s comments about the pacing. Although it didn’t bother me personally, I think it’s a fair critique.

    THE WORST
#1: First place on the worst list (so my least favorite of all) goes to Aaron Rogers. I have zero clue why anyone likes his hosting. Don’t get me wrong: he seems like a nice guy and apparently he “studied” for the role. But talk about pacing! He was stiff and his voice was monotonous and he mumbled at times. I think those who are fawning over him are just fans of his from football. I don’t watch football so was totally neutral to him when he came. I was open to whatever his performance was. But he was dry. I know it sounds harsh; he clearly tried very hard, and I don’t want to down anyone who took on this immense undertaking. At the same time, let’s be honest. He wasn’t good.

#2: Dr. Oz did fine. Much like Aaron (and to an extent, Anderson), I think people let their past associations with him cloud their judgment of his performance. But unlike with Aaron, it’s a negative association. People can’t separate Dr. Oz from his show. So folks who hate his show hated even the *idea* of him hosting. But if people didn’t know his name and only watched his hosting, they’d have to admit that he honestly wasn’t awful. There were some times when he responded to the contestants in a way that I didn’t care for though.

#3: The best of the “worst” group was Katie Couric. I like her as an anchor, but she was too saccharine for Jeopardy! Perky and jovial is great for many gameshows. Pleasant is definitely necessary. But I feel like her excitability needed to be dialed down just a tad (not to Aaron sleep levels, though).

    TO BE DETERMINED
Buzzy is also significantly high on the excitable level! It’s a bit jarring. His volume is an 11! He needs to dial it down too, but he’s gotten slightly more mellow as a few days have gone by. He gets a little more grace because it’s TOC so the competition is more amped. He’s entertaining, but it’s just...a lot. His time isn’t over yet, so the jury is still out.

  • Jim Pullen - 3 years ago

Please, please, not Ken Jennings never liked his attitude! Arrogant, condescending, egotistical, and camaraderie is a foreign trait to him! Only ever friendly to Alex but we know that was driven by his selfish ambitions!

  • Zane Morgan - 3 years ago

I think Mehmet Oz was the best, followed by Anderson Cooper. Yet, Buzzy Cohen would be my best choice for permanent host. He has great personality which will improve with regularity. The first two choices don’t need the money. Give it to someone that told Alex Trebek that he wanted the job!

  • jnd911 - 3 years ago

I didn't like that Bill Whitaker seemed to act so surprised when a contestant got the question right.

  • P Doyle - 3 years ago

Definitely Aaron Rodgers. He studied the job before his time and it showed. He really loosened up over the 2 weeks. One person who should not be host is Ken Jennings. I couldn’t stand him as a contestant, as a host he is condescending and full of himself. I will not watch the show if he is made host and I have watched since Art Fleming. I also don’t think Lavar Burton should be considered since he has been campaigning for the job to the point it is nauseating. Dr Oz was boring. The rest were all pretty good but nothing earth shaking.

  • scmaize - 3 years ago

The guest hosts have done a commendable job, but Jeopardy stands for facts and truth, so I don't think Dr. Oz belongs on the show. To me, Anderson Cooper has clearly been the best so far, but I also like Ken Jennings. Bill Whittaker was better than expected. I'm glad LeVar Burton will get a chance, and I'd love to see Brad Rutter as a guest host. Brad was a wonderful Jeopardy champion, and he has a great voice for tv. I think many viewers are a little harder on the women hosting, because after 37 years of the irreplaceable Alex, a woman's voice is slightly jarring at first. But I think all the guest hosts should get a fair chance. There are a lot of brilliant women out there, as well as a lot of brilliant men. We all miss Alex, but I'm glad the show will continue.

  • Nosmo King - 3 years ago

Mike Richards is it! He was the smoothest and best sounding. Ken Jennings is good too. Aaron Rodgers has a good delivery and voice. The rest, so far, are garbage. Nosmo....

  • Betsy - 3 years ago

I liked Buzzy from the first game he played & really liked him, so far, this week. I think I would like Buzzy be offered the job.
I loved Aaron Rogers voice, it seemed calming to me. He may need a little polish but think his VOICE is everything & would be an asset to the job!!!
Ken Jennings would be my first pick but now he has several other projects in the works so as a long time host it may not be a good idea. Would he give them up to be an Alex favorite?

  • kain clark - 3 years ago

first off, replacing the great alex trebek is not an easy task for anyone and i respect the people who have tried to fill in, temporary or not...i'm withholding judgment until i see all the possible candidates, but so far i'd go with anderson cooper...looking forward to seeing levar burton, but i kinda wish they'd ask sean evans "the hot wings guy" to give it a shot...

  • N patterson - 3 years ago

While Aaron Rodgers did a good job guest hosting Jeopardy, producers would be wise to look into his character and ask his teammates, coaches, Exes, and family, what it’s like to deal with him.

  • susan - 3 years ago

Mike is absolutely the best choice.
His voice is easy to listen to, and he doesn't pause before telling if the answer is right...plus he really knows the show.

  • Beth - 3 years ago

Bill snd especially Aaron were a tad emotionally flat, not sounding enthused enough for the winners. Dr. Oz sells quack remedies on his show, so I do not respect him. I wish that Ken's voice was more resonant. Anderson read the "answers" a bit stiffly and overdramatically (albeit easy to hear), though I adore and respect him on CNN. Katie did fine, though she elsewhere has come across as a big giggly. My vote right now is for Ken, as he is as erudite as the contestants -- but I wonder if voice lessons would help him? And I look forward to LeVar. Time will tell.

  • B Cooper - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings is the hands down best choice. Everyone else other than Mike the producer comes with established celebrity status and hence certain percentage of population that has identified with them either due to preconceived political bias or point of view or as an actor/entertainer/tv host that has audiences who have identified with them. We are lifelong dedicated enthusiastic Jeopardy fans and anybody outside of the Jeopardy “family” is not only an interloper but brings their baggage with them and will affect by default some percentage of the audience. It is not about how well they conduct the questioning, everyone for the most part has done that well. This is about an identity and legacy of Alex. Why on earth wouldn’t you pick the most recognizable and best player ever if the game to take on the hosting? You can run through a hundred guest hosts and pretty soon they all start to blur and people stop watching. I don’t relate to any of these hosts because they are just playing a role, Ken Jennings is a legitimate greatest of all time JEOPARDY celebrity and is a darn good host. Please, please know how much passion we fans of decades have about this issue. Thank you.

  • Liz Rumore - 3 years ago

At the moment I think Ken Jennings but am really looking forward to Buzzy. Bill was calm and laid back but a is a newscaster personality and not a game show host. Anderson talked far to much and again another newsman.
Aaron was a favorite as he has a good sense of humor and spoke well.
Oz is obnoxious and Katie is not a good fit for a game show host at all.

  • Lori Jackson - 3 years ago

I am looking forward to Levar Burton.

  • Caroline Frahm - 3 years ago

If Ken Jennings is the new host I will not be watching Jeprody any longer. There are much better ones who can do the job.

  • P Craig - 3 years ago

Bill has a soothing voice and it is just pleasant to listen to even when not looking at the TV, he keeps your attention.
I really like him the best. P. Craig

  • Chryssy - 3 years ago

Aaron Rogers would ve a great o mh e for hosting jeopardy

  • Sue C. Calmes - 3 years ago

PLEASE NO KEN JENNINGS!!!! he's to arrogant and talks down to each contesant like he the world's smartest person. So again.. PLEASE NO KEN JENNINGS !!!

  • Margo D - 3 years ago

I like the guest hosts so far, but I truly think that Jeopardy is missing out on a fabulous candidate - Scott Hanson from NFL RED ZONE is the perfect choice for this show. He is bright, articulate, funny, witty, a very decent person and would be a total asset to Jeopardy and a tribute the wonderful Alex Trebek

  • Barbara Mathews - 3 years ago

I did like Aaron Rodgers the best, and I know he's looking for another job, but I don't think this is it? Anderson Cooper was close second and I could see him putting it in his schedule. Did not love Mike richards. He seemed a little artificially enthusiastic for me

  • Judy Mainord - 3 years ago

My all time favorite is Ken Jennings. He knows the game of Jeopardy as well as Mike Richards (LOL) and seemed to enjoy engaging with contestants. I like Bill Whitaker as well, just not better than Ken. I enjoyed Anderson Cooper more than I thought I would. He was relaxed and had a kind attitude toward the contestants. All the other guest hosts were enjoyable and tried hard to keep the game going. Such nice efforts to honor Alex Trebek.

  • Patricia Herrell - 3 years ago

My pick would be Aaron Rodgers although looking forward to Buzzy! Many of the others have a lot of baggage, e.g. political, professional. Need someone who doesn't push their own agenda. Mike Richards was good, too. Bill Whitaker wasn't awful, seemed very easy going with humility.
Anyone with a political bent should not be chosen. It's a game show not a platform.

  • Peggy Bendush - 3 years ago

Mike Richards is our choice, brought life to the show and KNOWS the show. Aaron Rogers would be #2. The others are not a good fit to fill Alex's shoes.

  • Diane - 3 years ago

Please don’t have ken Jennings. After each contestant’s answer he embellished on the answer…feel like he’s showing how much more he knows about the subject. I feel Anderson Copper & Bill Whitaker are wonderful & personable.

  • Judith Elzinga - 3 years ago

It’s interesting how people make their decisions after looking at the very same thing. Where did one viewer come up with his dislike of the political left comments. I never heard any of those. I like Richards and Rodgers best. Buzzy too even tho he has yet to be host. Jennings and Cooper are both naturals. And who would vote against Whitaker because of his race??? He is a good news man but I think the venue is not for him. Too much hesitation when he replied.

  • J. Rees - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings or Anderson Cooper. I'd like to have seen Brad Rutter. Katie Couric was too condescending, Dr. Oz too full of himself. Bill Whittaker too boring and no sense of humor. I don't understand how Anton Rodgers rates so highly. I didn't think much of his performance. Mike Richards was better than most but there were too many pauses. Please do not pick LeVar Burton. Canvassing for the job is crass and not what Jeopardy should be known for.

  • Thomas Mueller - 3 years ago

Aaron Rogers should get it but won't because he isn't black and doesn't ram the lefts veiws down your throat.

  • Joe Emanuel - 3 years ago

Mike Richards understands the history of the show and brings no association with any other show or activity. Every other candidate will always be viewed as “a football player or news person or tv personality or quiz show contestant trying to be a quiz show host”. My second choice is Ken Jennings since his previous affiliation is primarily with Jeopardy and he obviously is very knowledgeable about how contestants and the host feel.

  • Ed V. - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings did great for being first out of the gate to replace Alex, also earned it in my view of being the greatest contestant of all time ! I think Alex would agree on this choice !

  • Susie - 3 years ago

Ok, first off Mike Richards was and still is my first pick. Katie doesn’t want it, she’s too busy with other stuff, that’s what she said. Ken and Anderson were better than I thought they would be. Aaron wasn’t bad, was just fun to watch, outside of football. Dr Oz was just terrible !! Bill Whitaker is not good at all, his voice is very creepy, I would not watch anymore if he gets permanent host. The upcoming guest hosts are a complete joke. You should have stopped after Aaron Rodgers ! Not looking forward to Savannah Guthrie at all, she is so rude, condescending and isn’t she everywhere already, so sick of her !! She needs to go as far away from being in TV all together ! Please don’t pick her. Another one I would not watch as permanent host ! And WHY was there a petition for LeVar burton ?? What’s the deal with that ? Lastly, PLEASE don’t put OPRAH in the chase, that would be even worse than Savannah, IF that can get any worse !! Mike Richards YES

  • Roland - 3 years ago

So far Aaron Rogers by far is best. Whitaker sounds like one of those automated responses from a help line.

  • Emily - 3 years ago

Please no on Ken Jennings. Liked 1.Aaron Rodgers, 2.Mike Richards 3. Anderson Cooper. How about a write-in: Ben Stein?

  • C Anderson - 3 years ago

Mike Richards no 1, Anderson Cooper 2
    They were the best

  • Becky Bennett - 3 years ago

Not sure who host should be, but know it should not be Dr. Oz or Bill Whitaker

  • Michelle P. - 3 years ago

By far my favorite so far is Anderson Cooper. But I'm confused as to why Aaron Rogers has such a high vote. He was dull, monotonous, and so boring that I looked forward to the commercials!

  • Michelle P. - 3 years ago

By far my favorite so far is Anderson Cooper. But I'm confused as to why Aaron Rogers has such a high vote. He was dull, monotonous, and so boring that I looked forward to the commercials! ????

  • Goya - 3 years ago

My pick is Mike Richards but he needs to stay where he is at. Anderson Cooper was natural, gracious and involved in the game making contestants feel comfortable. Jennings was too busy trying to be Alex and looking down at contestants, big “ you can’t but me attitude “. Aaron Rodgers, maybe, but he needs to a spunk pill. Bill Whitaker should go back to reading the news. Dr Oz... waste of time. Katie Couric, boring. Hopefully the next contestants will bring us something new. For now my picks are: Richards, Cooper, Rodgers.

  • Tamara - 3 years ago

I think Aaron Rodgers has been the best so far, he's not the "rich athlete" persona like someone said he was actually on the show and did very well. Some are suggesting that maybe we're racist because we think Bill Whitaker was boring, or homophobic because we thought Anderson Cooper was boring. Let's face it they're just boring. I'm dreading Joe Buck being on and why they'd even ask him is beyond me. Buzzy Cohen I'm sure is going to exude more personality than all of them put together. Mayim Bialik may be a dark horse, loved her on Big Bang. Also looking forward to Levar Burton, and I wish they'd give TJ Holmes a shot. I absolutely cannot stand Ken Jennings and if he gets it I will stop watching it even though I've been watching Jeopardy my entire life starting with Art Fleming.

  • Elaine Branch - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings is my vote. He has the knowledge, personality and knows how it feels to be in the contestants place. He has witty comebacks like Alex did as well as a deep and true love for the show to continue the way Alex would want it to. Ken has a genuine respect for Alex’s memory and would not disrespect it on the show that he made famous.

  • Tt - 3 years ago

Bill Whitaker is awesome. Rogers is second. How can anyone say Bill isn’t the best.

  • Anthony - 3 years ago

Anderson Cooper was by far the best more in tune and Engaged and at the same time Personable

  • Nathaniel McFadden - 3 years ago

Bill Whitaker hosts the show like he's reading the news, it just sounds like a script rather than Aaron Rogers who sounded genuinely happy to host.

  • Meta - 3 years ago

I think Mike Richards had the best personality to host the show so far. Ken Jennings might be more relaxed with the contestants if he had some experience. I thought Bill Whitaker was doing a great job. He has a very soothing, calm voice. I agree that Aaron Rodgers was the worst of the bunch. He was so boring they might as well have had a cardboard cutout of him on stage.

  • Shirley M. - 3 years ago

I thought Bill Whitaker has the Sophistication needed.
He also seemed to 'grow' into the part and that gives him a great ability to 'grow' the show. He has a certain humility which I find necessary for the Contestants to shine as well as the show itself.
He was much more forth coming as his time progressed.
Some might like for the show to stay it's fevered pitch although it took over 30 years to get there.....I really do NOT want it turned into a Reality TV personification...that would be an insult to those many years of work.

  • R stokes - 3 years ago

Whitaker seemed too boring and unexciting. Jeopardy needs to find someone that loves knowledge and learning. I think jennings comes close. Richards is quick and smart but too glib like a used car salesman. The others unimpressive. I say keep looking.

  • Bettie Godfrey - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings or Mike Richards have enthusiasm, manners, looks to carry on Jeopardy's tradition of quality. Aaron Rodgers just another rich athlete, complete with conceited attitude and no ability for interaction with the contestants.
Any other suggested hosts would have me changing channels really quick!
    ......from long-time fan of Jeopardy.

  • Dorene White - 3 years ago

I really liked Ken Jennings and Mike Richards.

  • Jan confreda - 3 years ago

Bill is horrible so boring listening to him...watching this week put me to sleep....

  • Elaine M - 3 years ago

Bill Whitaker spoke so slowly. The pace of the game slowed as a result. Very frustrating to watch as a result. He seems like a nice guy, but not a good fit for the ahow. It has nothing to do with skin color. Couric, Oz,and Anderson are all equally as wrong for the show.

  • Debbie Miles - 3 years ago

Oh sweet Jesus, Bill Whitaker got 1% because of his skin color? The answer: he had no wit or comedic timing....Who is Bill Whitaker and/or Dr Oz? Hey snowflake, it’s got nothing to do with racism.

  • Ellen - 3 years ago

I thought Mike Richards was great. I don't think having someone already known to be outspoken on subjects which might be controversial is a good fit.

  • Barbara - 3 years ago

Ken Jennings was the best of the bunch: friendly, personable, obviously smart without being condescending. Whitaker was condescending as was Couric who came across as nasty at times. Aaron has a good personality and sense of humor- a close second to Jennings.

  • Al Buchanan - 3 years ago

Mile Ricjstds was great. Aaron Rogers? Really his voice was flat. And boring. No emphasis st all..

  • Freddy - 3 years ago

What is the matter? Why so many who think Aaron Rodgers should be the host. I watched one of his shows and it was the longest 12 hours of my life. Dull and lifeless. He should stick with football. As a game show host, a minor leaguer.
All those clueless football fans out there who think his passing skills translate to an effective replacement for Alex Trebek.
Give the job to someone who deserves it. One who is not a cure for insomnia.

  • Lonnie Brosnikoff - 3 years ago

    Mike Richards - 1000 percent. ????????

  • M. Robinson - 3 years ago

a firm, even delivery yet kindly approach sets Bill Whitaker's manner on this show. Find it difficult for me to believe he is last showing only 1% voted for him. Can this be tinged with a racist view involved? Hmmm.
