Overrated. Acting fabulous, but series spent far too much time developing miserable characters and their problems. Was hard even to root for Winslet. Depressing.

Very poor character development. Why did that one guy confess to the murder???

    Excellent all the way around!
Location of hilly streets probably across county to Conshohocken.
    I would love another season
A small town has endless stories! ????

I was born and raised in Delaware County where this supposedly takes place. I lived there my whole life until recently. I enjoyed hearing places mentioned I know about. It was not Delaware County. Those mountains and hilly streets are PA but not Delaware County. Probably western PA or even Scranton area. Delaware County is just outside Philly. As a matter of fact I could walk into Philly where I was raised. Just wanted to clarify the location.

Was hooked immediately episode 1 - her lack of interest in her looking pretty & without make up ! Perfect for her since she is a detective & all business. Everyone seemed to be related & all had secrets on various levels ! I did pick up in comments that Ryan might be the killer ( he had anger issues about both parents & empathy for his sister ! Not sure it was a true accident with Erin since he moved the body ! I did like the Guy Pierce “ending” & hoped that he continued to see Mare again to hook up ! Jean Smart’s character hysterical /sad at same time! Loved that scene with Mare in bed with her grandson! Losing the other detective was very sad & didn’t see coming! So many red herrings in this show ! A season 2 probably would not work in my opinion! It was like watching TRUE DETECTIVE! Phenomenal writing & dialog ! Kudos & bravo for 7 episodes !

Just a minor point - Roman Catholic seminarians in their last years of study to become a priest are considered temporary deacons. The moment a seminarian takes his final vows at his ordination he becomes a priest. He from that point on would NEVER be referred to as Deacon, he would only be addressed as Father. Married men can study to become permanent deacons who assist the priest’s sacramental duties. The can marry and baptize but cannot transubstantiate the bread and wine into the body and blood (Eucharist), cannot perform the sacrament of Reconcliation or the sacrament of the Sick or Confirmation.

This was an A+ miniseries that hooked me from the first episode and had me anticipating Sunday evening every week. The writing the acting and the plot twists were superbly done. I disagree with other critiques about the timeline for the gun being gone. Mr Carroll said, while talking about the missing gun with Mare over coffee, he heard a noise in the shed the night Ryan took the gun, and went down to find the gun missing. When he discovered it had been returned - much later - is irrelevant to the story except that this is when he calls Mare to report it. Why would a retired police officer not report a missing firearm WHEN IT GOES MISSING? That’s a hole that is never explained. The other thing I struggle with was the fight in the school cafeteria - Ryan clocks the bully with the lunch tray after Ryan’s sister who has Down Syndrome is bullied. But when Lor questions Ryan about the fight - the bully and the sister are never mentioned - the only connection Lor makes is that Ryan’s behavior has something to do with his Dad and the secret? That is the bigger stretch in my mind. Still - the finale answers all but a couple of tiny questions like this and even closes the door on all the emotional danglers like Mare and Lot’s friendship and Mare finally grappling with Kevin’s death by going to the attic to confront old ghosts. Really, really well done and Kate Winslet is a masterful actor - she owned the part of Mare and I would love to see a second season...

Wow, what an amazing ending!!! Kate Winslet deserves and award for her performance in Mare of Easttown! Her acting was superb! I was drawn into the story from the first episode and couldn’t wait for the next episode to appear each week. I was happy to see that the ending was uplifting and that Mare was able to repair her relationship with Ryan’s mom and that Mare could finally come to terms with her son’s suicide. Fantastically wonderful mini series!

Just finished watching it since HBO MAX had a meltdown last night. Noted the mistake immediately that Mr. Carroll’s time line of the missing gun and Ryan’s confession didn’t jive. How can you let that pass? I rated the series excellent to that point. Had to take it down a notch after that.
    An explanation would be appropriated.

Agree with previous comment about gun. Old man indicated there was substantial time between when gun was stolen and reappeared. The show the kid taking the gun out of the shed late at night and then returning it sometime later that night. Unless the old man checked on the gun in the middle of that night after it was stolen and again later that night when it was returned, the writers got sloppy not fitting this part of the story together! Except fir this amateurish mistake it good.

I absolutely love this show. Wish it could continue. Kate Winslet is phenomenal, so relatable to anyone going through a loss in their family. She's tough as nails, no phoniness - but like an open wound that hasn't started to heal. Strong , yet vulnerable. Jean Smart is fantastic also. Gonna really miss this one.

We did not see the ending coming. Very well written. Kate Winslet was awesome. I have enjoyed and respected all of her work. She's always real, genuine, believable, impressive. My whole family loved Mare Of Eastown. Lots of discussions about who the killer was. I guessed that there was some sort of a conspiracy involved but I did not know the details; I thought that there would prove to be several people who knew the truth but had failed to reveal it for reasons I was unable to determine. What I took from it; we think we know what's going on, but we really do not have a clue of what's really going on in our town, our neighborhood, or right next door, or in another room in our home.

Just watched episode 7. The son didn’t kill her. He said he put the gun back. Did the old man noticed the gun missing in the middle of the night? Suspicious!

I didn't understand the attic connection until I read the article and then I remembered.
