How do you feel about our decision to change the ink washed miniatures with the Kickstarter exclusive TacTiki ruins player mat?

Not entirely sure how an extra playmat will add to the wooden box version. A little redundant really. Unless there are new rules/ variants with the extra playmat.

    Beste Grüße an euch
    Christof

Please add another gameplay variant to this new playmat. Think about changing some rules to it, introducing special field restrictions and/or new actions. That would be a great replacement to the ink-wash minis.

  • Kai - 4 years ago

I supported the game with Ink Wash and would like the Ink Wash. What am I going to do with a play mat when I can play on what I hope is a great wooden box.

  • Bruno Pimentel - 4 years ago

I also think the new mat should provide a variant to the game. Maybe a different sized grid, or having some cells inaccessible, …

Or how about a portable bag to carry the game (i.e. pieces plus the mat i already paid for) instead of creating a new mat, so that we can carry the game trips?

I always thought the ink washed gamepieces was a bad idea for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Consistency in a process like that is nearly impossible, and being able to tell which piece is which would greatly compromise gameplay. I'm glad to hear you've decided to toss out the ink wash

  • Eric - 4 years ago

While ink-washed minis sounded like a great aesthetic idea, I too had reservations about any flaws or blemishes instantly giving away which pieces had which numbers, so I don't mind that you cancelled this concept. The playmat is an okay idea, but I imagine sliding around game pieces stacked 4-5 high on a neoprene mat would be challenging and stressful to do without making sure nothing tips. If there are any minor chips or notches on the underside of the minis' plastic bases, those could catch the fabric (not to mention scratch up the mat over several playthroughs) and ruin the entire game if anything topples over. Personally, having a new mounted board would be a huge addition, plus you can even make it double-sided with even more layouts if you wanted :) And even if you decide to go with the playmats, would you possibly be willing to provide us with a file of the new ruins layout so that we can create mounted boards ourselves if we preferred? Thanks for all that you're doing for us! Can't wait to play!!

  • Sven - 4 years ago

In projects you don't always have everything under control, so in this case I understand and what is proposed as compensation is fair.
But as KSG wrote, a double sided player mat would be great and if possible a thickness increase of the game boards for all editions woud be very appreciated (I really hate the standard 1mm game boards of Terraforming Mars)

  • Jp - 4 years ago

Not ideal, but I can understand not wanting to be able to identify the pieces by the wash pattern when playing.

Will each copy ordered get one? I had ordered two.

  • KSG - 4 years ago

This is what happens when you don't work with the best manufactures (Panda GM...).

    1) Since you are doing a new player mat why not make it double-sided? A new design on the other side of the board cost almost the same.

    2) I would like to see a Game Boards thickness increase to 3mm and / or baize in all minis for Standard Edition too
(making all minis the same is probably cheaper).

Why have a poll after announcing your decision? Seems rather pointless.

Part of the reason that I signed on to the kickstarter rather than waiting for the retail was the washed minis - the way it was presented they would make the minis look really special.

A similar effect worked on Tainted Grail with their minis.

I've got a wooden box to play on so couldn't really care less about a playmat.

Yes it might have been a stretch goal, but I signed on when it has been reached.

Not happy with this at all... seems like a classic bait and switch.

I understand the developers' decision, but I‘m a little bit disappointed. As Backer of the wooden box, it would be a better change if the existing playing field had been provided with different heights / levels or a structure but a third variant of a field isn‘t necessary for the optics or the gaming experience.

Stuff happens. Going into a new campaign, I always remember that I am not only paying for a product, but paying for the privilege of being one of the first people to own the original edition. The original edition doesn’t always mean the perfect edition, but that’s part of the charm. The ink wash upgrade would have been cool, but I’m just excited to own this game in general, and I appreciate all of your attempts to bring us the best game possible.

  • Jax - 4 years ago

I know the game makers tried very hard to fulfill the original vision, and this could be a letdown by manufacturing partners who may have overpromised. A learning experience anyway. I already got the add-on mat, so it's not that special to me to get another one, but I look forward to playing at last. The minis still look neat.

With Covid and everything else disrupting the world, this is an unfortunate (they looked great!) but understandable change. Given the quality/seal of the plastic frankly I can take existing hobby ink/washes and wash then seal with a clear coat these figures myself. I'm personally just excited to try and play the game with my young family.

Keep up the good work - chasing down vendors, MFRs, etc. is a nightmare when there isn't a pandemic going on.

    Best-
    -Vincent

Personally, I love mats & think it's a fine substitution!

The ink wash upgrade was a stretch goal - so it's not like people paid more to get it as an add on - it was just a collective $$ goal that happened to be reached (so it wouldn't be any different if the mat was on the list instead).
If it can't be done because of the pandemic, that is completely understandable.

    I still can't wait 2 play!

How Will This playmat work with wooden box?

  • Mark - 4 years ago

Mostly I am interested in the game SHIPPING. Send it! I want to play!

  • Edward Harris - 4 years ago

I understand the alternative to what was promised but I don't like how it's been presented. This feels like a bait and switch. You emphasize that you're giving us a mat for free like it's a big extra, and it would be - if we were getting ink washed pieces as promised.
I feel that you should have pulled the backers to have them weigh in before you made your decision.

  • Michael - 4 years ago

I understand the issues but do not like the substitution if the mat does nothing but changes the color. I purchased the wood version and just don't see the benefit of a different color mat if it's the same rules unless there is a variation on game play based on the game board. Richer and better looking figures are important to the feel vs plastic figures. You already have another mat. Not sure what solutions there are for improving the figure look

I would wait a few month for the product if the ink wash could be done nicely

    @Luke Murthwaite

It doesn't include any rule variants, just the different artwork.

  • Evangelos Foskolos - 4 years ago

    @Brent Mayhew
Yes it's going to be made out of neoprene like the player mat we had as an Add-On

  • Brent Mayhew - 4 years ago

with its being called a play mat does that mean it would be made of neoprene?

  • Goran - 4 years ago

I think it's a fair deal, as long as its not postponing the delivery of the game.

  • Luke Murthwaite - 4 years ago

Not ideal, but I understand completely. I had a feeling the ink wash would cause some problems. However the game mat is a fantastic alternative and more than I would expect. One question though. does this mat include any rules variants or is it just different art? Thank you :)

I'm involved in other business but I'm struggling every day with the raw materials cost increase and freight 3 times more expensive than normale (in particoular from China). I understand the great troubles to get the project done without incourring into a loss.

Try to do your best, I'm ok with some changes with the original kickstarter, I understand, I think it's important not to delay so much the deliveries.

    Efcharistò.
    Stefano
