Now that Mike Richards is out, who should host 'Jeopardy!'?

Le var Burton would be my last choice. Mike Richards was the most natural. I'd also go with Ken Jennings.

  • William Rizi - 4 years ago

My choice is LeVar Burton without question. My only other comment is that I wish he didn't sound like was talking to a group of kids on Reading Rainbow.

  • E. Dougherty - 4 years ago

NOT LEVAR BURTON!!!!! He was the worst host of all.
Facial expressions and the way he spoke was as if he was on Reading Rainbow, speaking to a group of children. Won’t watch any more if he is chosen.

If Burton is in, I'm out!

  • Beverly Moore - 4 years ago

I found Joe Buck to be wonderful during his stint. He was witty, at ease with the contestants, and very "down to earth". He was great!

  • Alice Hoyt - 4 years ago

NOT LeVar Burton! If he is chosen I will not be watching the program either. Ken Jennings should have just been chosen as Host from the start without any auditions. If he chose not to be the host then Mayim Bialik should be the next choice. She did a fantastic job.

I would like to see Tom Bergeron. Former host from Dancing with the Stars. He has a wonderful personality.

  • TBrennan - 4 years ago

Definition of hypocrisy: Sony execs “surprised” by Richards hateful comments toward pretty much everyone on the planet, yet make sure he’s the guide going forward for the show.

Maybe try a background check on any new host ;)

I think Mike Richards should still be host. People should get over what happened many years ago but if he is not host then my husband and I think Mayim Bialik should definitely be made permanent host for all of Jeopardy performances. She did an excellent job as guest host. We definitely do not want Ken Jennings. He is too stuck on himself and thinks he is God. LeVar Burton was terrible as guest host and should most definitely not get the job. He may have been good on a children’s show with his sing-songy voice but he was horrible on his guest gig with Jeopardy. We think most people voted for LeVar because he wanted the job so badly and don’t think that is any reason to vote for someone. Aaron Rodgers is another one of our pics because he seemed very professional and poised in that position. If LeVar or Ken Jennings get the job, we will not watch Jeopardy any longer. Please consider what people’s comments are and not just the voting polls. We think the polls are a lot of sympathy votes for LeVar.

Good-bye to Jeopardy if LeVar Burton is host! I would choose Ken Jennings or Anderson Cooper, they both did outstanding jobs when guest hosting! I cannot take Mayim, she is so arrogant! Also, let me say this...no one is perfect and it will be extremely hard for you to find someone who has no flaws! Good Luck!

A HOST would be just that: running the show w/o tooting their own horn, young enough that we won't have to endure another summer of Hell anytime soon, be personable, accountable, smart, interesting, speak clearly & have a pleasant voice. What made the show & Alex so successful for so long was the belief that the contestants were the stars, & the host was just that. Richards still has a job that he's great at, stepping down from host was best decision made by anyone all sumner. Faber best in my opinion.

I have been a fan of jeopardy for as long as i can remember. I was a fan when Art Flaming was host. saying that I have watched all the shows with the guest hosts. and one of the worst was LaVar Burton ...I would be okay with Mayim Bialik as the new host of the everyday show and the specials. BUT if you chose Burton as the new host...my husband and I will no longer be watching the show. this would makie me sad but between his performance as host (which was not fun to watch he was rather boring) then to come on the internet and say he should of gotten the job...wrong. sorry just came off as a poor loser.

Please make a choice that does not involve politics or self promoting celebrities. Alex is impossible to replace, try to keep his ethics and values alive. It is after all 30 minutes of knowledge and a touch of entertainment.

  • Karen From - 4 years ago

Please not LeVar Burton. He may want to be the new host but he did a terrible job when given the opportunity. He came across to me as "phony", trying too hard and unsure of himself when contestants answered the questions. I can't understand how he has the most votes right now, do people feel sorry for him that he wasn't given a "fair chance"? I don't understand it. Ken Jennings would do the show justice and keep it going the way Alex would have wanted it. Why do we need any more tryouts?

My choice for host would be based on the qualities I find desirable from the standpoint of being a contestant on the show: A pleasant demeanor and genuine interest in listening during those mini on-air interviews. A little bit of humor occasionally to relieve the tension. Calm, well-paced manner of speaking without blurting out words or expressions in a loud jarring voice. Presenting questions clearly. Responding to correct and especially to incorrect answers in a non-judgmental tone of voice. I watch the show for the answers and questions. Of all the guest hosts, I found LeVar Burton to have the least desirable delivery, as if we were on an outdoor stage. I don’t need to write anything more as I am in total agreement with Debbie’s evaluation.

delivery of voice Good use of voice as my reaction to this person as a contestant

  • Richard Rosenthal - 4 years ago

Levar Burton was one of the worst. Would probably stop watching the show if he becomes the host

  • Sandy Jenkins - 4 years ago

Lavar Barton, Whitaker, Dr. Oz were lowest last on my list. I really liked Richards. Farber was surprising good, very natural, with great timing. At this point I say let Bialik have it full time. But I also enjoyed Buzzy. I have watched Jeopardy since long before the Alex Era, but probably won't watch Barton ... his yelling was so irritating!

  • 69 Road Runner - 4 years ago

Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen are the best remaining options; Aaron Rodgers has another gig, and David Faber is too old.

  • Joe Futer - 4 years ago

If LaVar is chosen , so much for white privilege. He was very weak. His campaign tactic was not appreciated. So long Jeapordy.

I don't think Mike Richards particularly deserved the job -- Ken Jennings is bar none the most qualified person to take over for Alex -- but forcing Richards out just because of a few off-color jokes from almost a decade ago borders on madness. If you blacklisted everyone who made a distasteful joke or said something slightly disparaging to someone in their lifetime, you'd end up blacklisting everyone. I know Jeopardy! has been dumbed down in recent years, but one still would have hoped that a show that's supposed to be smart would have been smarter in its handling of this situation. It seems like a bunch of hypocritical bullies on social media (with nothing better to do than try to find fault with others) have struck again, trying their best to cause an uproar when the host(s) they wanted to get the job didn't get it. Now this same ignorant mob seems to be canvassing for Levar Burton, even though he pretty obviously did the worst job of anyone, for no reason other than that he ticks off the particular boxes they want to see ticked.

  • Hank - 4 years ago

Burton was awful...I'm a big fan, but he's just not right for this show.

  • Barbara - 4 years ago

Please anyone but LaVer Burton!!! If he is chosen, I will no longer watch the show.

  • Janet Karasick - 4 years ago

I was shocked when David Faber was on as I was half listening and I thought wow this gentleman seems to be so
much like Alex Trebek with how he moved show along and his humor when called for. No offense but Levar Burton was just boring and yes I understand he was nervous but so were others.

And Ken Jennings as wel as Buzzy Cohen may know Jeorpardy but personality wise ixna. I would love to see Aaron Rogers but right now he has a job but use him as someone else suggested to do some of the travel places for questions and Leave Mayim as you planned. Best of luck and I will watch no matter what.

  • Debbie - 4 years ago

Ken Jennings please. Not understanding why everyone thinks LaVar should be host. He was not that good. Let’s be real

  • Gaynell Keene - 4 years ago

I would like to see James Holshauer have a turn as host, I also liked Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen. Actually, I thought that George Stefanopoulos did really well as host. I don't understand his low ratings.

  • Julia - 4 years ago

What an unfortunate messy situation. A shadow has been cast on the integrity of the whole process. Mike did the right thing by stepping down. Please give up on the push for Levar. He just was not suited for this job ( in my opinion). I also don't think special arrangements should have been made for Mayim. She was good but not that good. And she appears to have her own controversies popping up. Now it's awkward for any new host. It's like saying you can do regular shows but you're not good enough to do the tournaments? What? It's insulting. Alex did them all and so should the new host (hopefully not Mayim). And if I hear Mayim say " I'm an actual neuroscientist " one more time I'm just turning my television off. At this point, I don't think any of the guest hosts who have been on the show so far should be chosen or should accept the job. They would obviously be second choice. Have some dignity people! Start again Jeopardy and only have guest hosts who are available and want the job, otherwise it's a waste of time. Definitely show some respect for Alex and give the people he named as his possible replacements a chance.

  • Assunta Galeno - 4 years ago

Get Mo Rocca. He would be terrific!!!

  • Arlene Ryan - 4 years ago

Ken Jennings was the best & Alex would have liked that. LaVar Burton could not do that job. He made more mistakes than anyone & this job should not be determined by race or gender. Can't they just let the best person have it. I've watched this game show along with Wheel of Fortune even before Alex & Pat. I'm going to miss Jeopardy alot if they stick with the "woke" garbage as everyone seems to be doing now. I'm sorry they forced Mike Richards to quit. He was my second choice. Both he & Ken are excellent & would carry that show on for years to come.

  • Jessica Badstibner - 4 years ago

Austin Rogers, he did great on jeopardy and has a cool, quirky personality! I would love for him or James Holzhauer, they are my top 2 favorite winners on jeopardy

  • Kathy Clark - 4 years ago

    John Michael Higgins

  • Mr. Beepo - 4 years ago

David Faber was by far the best of the guest hosts. Burton was near the bottom of the pack.

  • Julia Krisel - 4 years ago

at this point, LeVar deserves better, they treated him like garbage, only gave him a week, during the OLYMPICS, no less and barely promoted him! he admitted he could have done better, that he was nervous and I watched all of his episodes. he was charming, entertaining, knowledgeable, humble and had the best voice, smooth as butter. I'm sure Alex would have approved of him. now I'm hoping one of Alex's choices actually gets to have a turn at hosting, especially Laura Coates, but something tells me Sony will completely ignore her!

  • Ann - 4 years ago

Ken Jennings should be the next host. He is what Jeopardy is about. He knows the game. I think a non celebrity should take the helm. Give him a chance.

  • Kenn Fong - 4 years ago

    Stephen Fry

  • Maggie - 4 years ago

The host should not be a celebrity. Remember, Alex always he insisted he was not the star of the show, he was the host. So, sorry, most of the names on the list would not qualify.

  • Connman - 4 years ago

As to LeVar Burton, this is his dream job, and he would probably improve significantly if given time. I recall it being mentioned that Alex started off pretty rough as well. I'm not pushing for or against LeVar, but it should be someone that wants the job.

  • Connman - 4 years ago

Seems like they should at least give a tryout to the person or persons that Alex had suggested as his successor. Don't recall who they were, but if Alex suggested them, it's only reasonable to give them a shot.

  • Pat Cvitkovic - 4 years ago

I totally agree with "Debbie's" comments about LaVar Burton. He was trying way too hard and wasn't capable of the job.

  • Mary McLeer Crane - 4 years ago

Why Lavar Burton? I didn’t like him at all. I don’t know why people art so obsessed with him!

  • Debbie - 4 years ago

I'm sorry; what is this fixation with LeVar Burton? How can he be winning this poll? Come on people; he was terrible in so many ways. He over acted when the contestant got the question right and came across like he was either surprised they got the answer right or was yelling out "correct" like he was a cheerleader. He was awkward when the contestant got the answer incorrect and delayed with his reaction after the contestant answered (correctly or incorrectly) to the point that he wasted so much time that more answers were left on the board because they ran out of time than any other guest host. He is NOT the right person for this job; let him stick to kid shows where he shines.

  • Debbie Parks - 4 years ago

I rather like the different guest hosts, a taste of all different people. It definitely SHOULD take a long exhaustive search to find a new host.

  • Shanola Hampton - 4 years ago

Jill Dando should be the new host!
