Grayson Childress, Brookhaven (MS): It was a 5K PR right off the bat for Childress, who won the Ole Brook Invitational in 15:40.40. That was his first performance under 16 minutes at the distance. 35% (2,011 votes)

Connor Ackley, Hilliard Davidson (OH): A top 15 finisher at state a year ago, Ackley opened up his XC campaign with an impressive win at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational in 15:34.90. 6% (336 votes)

Brady Masters, Madison Central (KY): The state Class AAA runner-up from 2020 got things rolling with a win at the Central Kentucky Run for the Gold in 15:44.00. 3% (164 votes)

Sam Rich, Catawba Ridge (SC): The recent Notre Dame commit opened up his XC campaign with a win at the Fort Mill clash in 16:00.00. He was a full minute-plus ahead of the second-place finisher. 2% (114 votes)

Udodi Onwuzurike, Brother Rice (MI): We know the XC season is in full swing, but this is an obvious extension of the track season: Udodi exploded at the World U20 Championships, winning a World U20 title in the 200m in 20.21 (+0.5) seconds. The time was a new Nigerian national record and the second fastest performance of the year for a high schooler. It was part of three sub-21 second times over the competition. 1% (40 votes)
