The " background" music is still SO loud that too often dialog is drowned out. If this continues, it won't be worth watching anymore as too much plot information is lost. It's like missing pages in the middle of a good mystery .

I loved this episode! It had me in tears, then cheering, then crying again! Great job by writers, actors and all involved. Looking forward to the rest of the season. Best wishes to Butterfly Ali for continued career success.

I hope they get back to police work this season and leave the army commando stuff behind them!!

I'm finding each season, after the first one so promising, to be over the top and full of inconsistencies. Last season Nolan was in big trouble and almost was kicked off the force for "investigating" one of their own instead of turning their concerns to IAB, then not even 2 episodes later Captain and Jackson do the very same thing - on their own investigate a racist cop!!!!! Wow!!!! Then the females officers while playing strong women, are given weak storylines where they must need to be constantly "saved" by the men in one fashion or another! So disappointed in this show - that I may just give up!

Very disappointed. In fact, almost angry. Totally unrealistic. Full of BS. But that made it easy to quickly watch—just fast forwarded through the worst of it. Who are the writers for this show?

Minus some comments that seem borderline racist, agree with Webster Phreaky’s analysis.

Each season def. deteriorated from the previous.

Will watch for a while, but if the poor writing and problematic plots continue will definitely stop wasting my time.

It’s good entertainment. A bit serious and frequent laughs.

I'm an ex-cop from the 80's, I started kinda late too, in my late 30's, 5 years after 18 years
in the USAF and Reserves. The First season, I enjoyed. The second season, I started getting
suspicious that the PRODUCERS or Director had NO Police Operations Consultant to correct the
    increasingly "misguided" writing.

The 3rd Season stunk to high heaven, Ofc Lucy Chen was getting noticeably FAT (not something that happens to a "Rookie" as they have you working your ass off ALL the time ... her ass and thighs were ballooning. The added Black officer, who had been a Detective and unrealistically went backwards to a Patrolman, was an irritating Smart ass
with a serious Emotional Problem. Lopez, the only endearing character was a lousy detective, should have stayed a senior PTO or sought a Precinct Captain's position somewhere else. Everyone else as a character was a farce, especially Nolan and "needs an attitude adjustment" queer Ofc Jackson West. "West" was an ongoing irritation, and I don't mean his Gay exploits, this is the kind of jerk that needed to be wasted out during "POST" academy. As for Nathan Fillion, the actor and the Character. he's a lousy actor and as a cop John Nolan a total farce. Everything he does in NOT COP!

The Season 4 Ep 1 was so idiotic and improbable, it was more like a SNL Parody of The Rookie, than any likely scenario that could possibly have been acceptable. Chen now is so Fat, even her face is Bloated too. Nolan now thinks he's James Bond 007, Richard T. Jones (Sgt) thnks he's Richard Roundtree nacho black thug as a cop, thank god Jackson West IS dead, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford is now relegated to be a "straight man" to everyone elses dumb jokes and idea's instead of being a seasoned PTO, Mekia Cox was a joke of a "token black patrolman" thinking she's a female James Bond.

Who the hell wrote this Ep 1, a 10 year old?? I'm FINISHED with The Rookie, the amateur productions on YouTube are Ten Times better!

Torn, I'll wait and see what new dimensions to the characters come with these changes.

Love the Rookie. Hated that Jacksons chapter was killed off. He is very good actor. I cried so sad. Great show gets better ever seasoni

What an excellent start to the season with the exception of losing Makin. He was such a big part of the show. So glad that the 'sleep over' ended when it did. Too often, these situations are just about sex as if that makes everything ok. There's just no sharing, romance or true feelings in most of these situations in most programs any more. Shame. As always, Nolan did a great job. Great actor.

    ????????????????????????????????????????????

Great show, but was really saddened to find out Jackson was dead. His character added so much to the show. Thinking there might be a Bradford/Chen romance? I didn’t like the 3 month jump-was hoping for some kind of memorial service or tribute for Jackson. The Rookie is one of my favorite shows!!!

Thank you for not making this episode a cliff hanger to next week! It was an edge of the seat episode!
