Brett, emotionally yes , but if they have legal permits from the government to take the trees , again the law is the law , the beef is with the government, not the tree/ lumber companies
Well I must say what a huge waste of police resources on Ferry creek when the need is very much stronger elsewhere and the old growth should be left as old growth forests .
4 million, that’s like a third of one bike lane,,, the city of Victoria still holds the title of biggest tax squandering city in Canada , still top dog
Would be interesting to see a breakdown of how the $4,000,000 cost for 6 officers was arrived at. I can see increased costs during training phase but $667,000 per officer per year…wow.
If the police were not at the various homeless shelters 24 hours a day , they wouldn’t be so stretched , this all comes down to people like Ms. Helps and the clown council and the B.C. government not putting our most at risk citizens in proper care facilities, not camps , motels and flop houses , it’s really pretty clear ,
Well said Tony C
Your correlation between hiring more officers and an increase in "wellness check" shootings is absurd, and to even make such a comment insults those police members who are out there doing the right thing every day. It is a sad day when a life is taken due to a situation escalating in split second time, and unless you were standing there at that moment, you have no idea what took place. Because the media jumps all over it and blasts the incident out over the airwaves for public consumption, doesnt mean the officer did anything wrong. Fortunately these incidents are not a regular occurrence, when taking into account the number of daily contacts police have with the public. Any death in these circumstances is tragic, for the victim, their family and also for the police member who had to use lethal force. It is a lose lose situation. Hiring more officers is a start, but the problems that require the need to hire those same officers, run deeper and need to be addressed as well. More officers doesnt always equate to safer streets, unless you are prepared to have one on every corner, but as I said, it's a start.
Yes hire more police. Public safety takes priority over other needs. It is the foundation for a healthy community/economy.
Six New officers yes
4+ million dollars no
I don’t know how the police chief puts up with this mayor and council, let’s get back to reality, let the police do their job with the resources necessary. How and why are Helps and Dejardine on the police board , makes no sense at all . Millions of dollars squandered on bike lanes and such nonsense, but wait ms. Helps says it’s not tax payers money,,,, no she says it’s paid from gas tax , which apparently is not a tax in her book , BIZARRE
Tony C your comment has nothing to do with the poll, but thanks for your personal opinion of what others seem important, no relevant comments??
The hiring of more police officers is about two behind and with our current state of uncertainty, we should think about doubling the amount of hires. Get on with it Victoria/Esquimalt. Maybe put a hold on bike lanes and get the required amount of police officers work in a city that has been lacking in areas of needed attention.
Stupid comment to say the least!
As long as the result is NOT more people being shot multiple times on wellness checks. This should not be like the cops tv show.
