There’s no debate now. Lock needs to start. At least Lock cared about the team and would’ve attempted to make that tackle on Slay. Now that Denver has a solid running game, if Fangio were smart, he’d realize that Drew Lock is an elite QB on play action. He had like 10 TD passes, around a 70% completion rate, and a 120 rating on play action throws. PA won’t work every time, but a good coach can devise a system that maximizes those strengths… and with a good run game, you have an opportunity to take more chances.

  • GARY L SWENSON - 2 years ago

Teddy two gloves is a bum....he can't spread a defense like lock...he holds the ball when he shouldn't...for a guy who only throws five to eight yards at a time how do you ever get sacked....Broncos are better than this it's time for a change....if lock don't cut it the rest of the season then let's clean house and start over!!!

  • Kenneth Patterson - 3 years ago

Teddy sympathizers are pathetic. Was he placed here through the "Make A Wish Foundation"?

  • Karyn - 3 years ago

uh Roosevelt...Mr Bowlen died a few years back...js. As for the debacle we have watched unfold for the last year and a half. Mostly coaching. Lock was good until Shurmur came along...give his someone who knows how to train up a project and get him on the file. Bridgewater is a checkdown in the backfield kind of guy and nobody needs that!

  • Kevin - 3 years ago

Should have never went away from him I wouldnt want to come back and play for a team that didn’t want him in the first place. Much better deep passer than bridgewater will ever be. Any him it’s the dumb ass coach.

  • Mike - 3 years ago

Some folks don't remember Drew Lock's pitiful performances, watching him stand in the "pocket" and not feel it collapsing and go to the sidelines with his "aw shucks" look on his face. Then instead of pouring over the picture and contributing to the plan for the next set of downs. His preparation was sitting there listening to his music on his headsets like a 13 year old. Bridgewater has his issue but he isn't the problem, start by dumping Shurmur and get rid of Fangio at the end of the year. Spend some serious money next year on some "Top of the Line" Offensive lineman. I guess it's "just" my opinion.

  • Roosevelt - 3 years ago

Switching back to a Drew Lock start would be a pyrrhic victory that would still end in flames and disaster for the Broncos. I know this may cause a few folks to scratch their heads, but I feel that Mr. Bowlen should do whatever is necessary to bring Aaron Rogers to the table for the next season and fire Fangio immediately. Drew Lock at best, is a bandaid for the offensive, and Teddy Bridgewater is not that much better. We need a fresh start beginning with a new head coach, a new DC, and a new QB before we lose our fanbase.

  • Charles E. Patterson - 3 years ago

Teddy Bridgewater when surrounded by good players and coaches is one of the best . He is cool & confident in his position. Very studious of the defenses that he faces. The offensive line needs to step up and provide better protection.

  • TIMOTHY - 3 years ago

At best Drew is a back up...We seen him in action...He doesn't look like a starter in the times he was there....He had enough time for everyone to see ???? that

  • Cliff - 3 years ago

Why not start Lock? We have nothing to lose at this point. It's apparent the Broncos SUCK. In all phases of the game. Maybe a change at QB will shake things up. The Broncos are NOT A GOOD TEAM. Give Lock another shot at it!

  • George Medina - 3 years ago

I believe Lock had his chance to shine. In football you usually only get one chance. Look at those QB's that got thrown into the position and have lived up to the opportunity. Teddy went out against the Ravens and Lock came in and did nothing. I like Lock as a backup but Teddy is the QB right now until we draft the right one. The 3 loses are everyone's fault from the coaches to the players.

  • Jack - 3 years ago

“Wrinkles” is the only OC who adapted his play calls to fit Lock’s skill set and Fangio fired him and brought in a retread who believes the player must fit his system, that is not coaching that is dictating. Thus, until we get a real OC in here that adapts to players skills and gradually expands the QB’s skill set and incorporates improvements, the Broncos will flounder.

  • Andy - 3 years ago

If this team can't win with Bridgewater, then what are we doing starting an 8 year vet on a 1 year contract! Besides, Teddy is getting recievers killed or there. At this rate we won't have any left by the bye week. Start Lock and give the kid some more experience. Last year Lock was asked to run a new offense with rookie recievers and no practice (due to covid). Hardly a recipe for success. Did we really expect him to succeed last year? Come on

  • Aaron - 3 years ago

The broncos go through QB's and HC like candy. Teddy is at least stable and consistent enough to move the chains. I feel bad for Drew lock because he was never fully supported, however the change would be worse overall for the broncos. The organization as a whole needs to completely change because only having a defensive team isn't cutting it.

  • Jared - 3 years ago

I think Lock should get the start the rest of the season. We know bridgewater isn’t the answer but lock hasn’t had a full season yet. The fact that we have the same problems whether lock or bridgewater is in there screams more about coaching issues than QB issues.

Fire the coaches, run the season out with the younger QB, draft a replacement if need be.

  • Fanatic - 3 years ago

The raiders tallied 17 QB hits on Bridgewater in that game. That is terrible. Even great QBs will throw picks with that kind of pressure and contact in their face - that often. Limiting QB hits and pressure is the issue, not Bridgewater. Protect the QB!

  • Teddy 2022 - 3 years ago

Our offense needs more line depth and fewer passing plays ending in the left tackle with his back to the line of scrimmage.

Until we have that, any QB not named Elway or PFM will struggle.

  • bob - 3 years ago

lol Bronco fans are nuts. You shouldn't be questioning who should start at qb. Its obvious that Teddy should still be the QB. What yall need to focus on is the pathetic o-line and defense thats cost you the games.

  • Greg - 3 years ago

Teddy is a nice guy and great teammate that young QBs can learn from. Drew Lock has had one year as a starter (COVID year with new OC and many supporting cast injured). Drew’s got the talent, and with Teddy’s support it would be the best option (especially the situation the Broncos are now in). It will take continued patience with any QB at this point with our current play calling and offensive line. The offensive line and play calling has been questionable every since Lock has been in Denver.

  • Wes - 3 years ago

Teddy B is a good qb. Any qb needs some time and the line is not getting the job done! If everything is working properly Teddy is an acurate passer and a winner!!

  • C z - 3 years ago

Lost lost the job for turns the ball over....what's fair?

  • Ron Stelly - 3 years ago

Lock has career stats of 57% completion rate with 18 TD's and 15 INT's over 3 different seasons in only 17 games played. HOF QB's like Elway and Manning had far more INT's in their first 17 games. Lock can play and play well provided he has an aggressive Offensive Coordinator and they play to his strengths like moving the pocket and letting him make plays with his cannon of an arm. HE DESERVES A REAL CHANCE

  • Ed from Aus - 3 years ago

Here’s an idea. Let’s go back in time. 1/ Not trade for Teddy, 2/ ship Lock off to Houston (or keep his as a very adequate backup) 3/ take Fields in the draft. Now I’m not saying we start the season any better but I feel more assured with our future at QB

  • Chris H - 3 years ago

Listen, I'm not saying drew is the guy long term. However, he still has time left to develop. He's not developing by being the scout team qb guys. There's only one way he can get better, and that's by playing. If we end the season with a losing record it should be because we wanted to see if drew could pan out, not because teddy's holding the job for the "next guy".

  • G - 3 years ago

Putting Lock in wouldn't solve the offensive problems, 2 many penalties offensively not enough dependability in the line, no sense of play scheme from Shurmer (who runs exact same plays), n let's not forget Fant who can't hold block long enough 2 sneeze......this game is team sport n until those Lil in n out r fixed u can't point fingers at Bridgewater as solo when everything around him is failing him 2 be successful!

  • Tyler Lefever - 3 years ago

Teddy Bridgewater was chosen so Fangio could save his job by taking the safe Veteran QB..Now Fangio Needs Lock in order to Save his job

  • Russell - 3 years ago

Get the offensive line fixed and the QB should be able to do something. Last week was a terrible, im surprised Teddy got out alive!

  • Aaron - 3 years ago

I'm not saying Drew Lock is the answer or will ever fair any better than Bridgewater has the last 3 games. But I am going to say, if we're going to lose 90% of the rest of our games, we might as well do it with Lock as QB so there are no doubts. That way you can move on at the end of the season, draft a QB, and keep Teddy as your backup/mentor. If you finish out this season with Teddy going 3-14 or 4-13 or 5-12, come draft time, there will be people saying "Well Drew never really got a shot". So then what happens? We maybe draft a QB and let Bridgewater go to free agency while keeping Lock as the backup/"veteran"? Now you have 3 QBs on the roster all under the age of 25?

  • Adam - 3 years ago

Drew Lock is definitely not the answer at QB. He has confidence in an arm that on most days lacks any kind of accuracy. The WRs have to make circus catches that should be routine catches. Lock is a back up QB at best could be used as the scout team QB. Bridgewater is not the long term answer at QB either. He is a back up that can go in and win a couple of games in a season. That’s what the Broncos have at QB. Case Keenum the journeyman is probably going to outplay either one of our backup QBs. Denver needs to clean house and start all over again at the QB position. At this point I wish Denver would have trades for Marcus Mariota this off-season.

I think they should go with lock, we’ve seen for year’s what Bridgewater can or can’t do, let’s see more of lock so we can either keep him or move on

  • Jerry Lee Kunau - 3 years ago

Teddy Bridgewater is a disaster he’s never done anything with any team he’s lousy banjo needs to go Schumer needs to go Drew Lock should be in the quarterback from the start of the season

  • Jordan R Leonard - 3 years ago

We know what we (don't) have in Lock already. Starting him will do nothing but lose us winnable games. We may suck now and be 3-3, but we would barely have 1 win against the jets alone if Lock had been starting since the start of the season. With Teddy we have a chance against an injured Browns, against the raiders, against the eagles, against WFT, against the cowboys. With Lock, we maybe have a chance against the eagles

  • Todd - 3 years ago

I’m not sure if Lock is the answer or not, Teddy is likable. He’s also best as a back up, if he’s you’re starter you aren’t going anywhere. If they start Lock we’ll find out if he can play or clean house next year.
Either way start Lock and you’ll know. For those who think they already know Lock isn’t the answer,,, You can’t hold last year with no off-season, new system, young team, pandemic protocols and add all the injuries ,,, last year we learned nothing.

  • Art - 3 years ago

Lock is Osweiler. Repeat. Lock is Osweiler. Now back to reality. How many times does Lock have to let us down? You blame Bridgewater because our offensive line and defense has been exposed? Teddy gives his all on every play. He takes a leadership role and holds himself accountable. Lock failed. We got all giddy when in OTA’s Lock actually looked like he was going to take it seriously. It took 3 years to get there!

  • New Mex - 3 years ago

Drew Lock still showed me he cant climb the pocket wen protection breaks down you have to help out your lineman out he leave the pocket way too early and he just needs to have a better awareness about who’s around him Teddy has all those intangibles but when your pressured 17 times idk any quarterback that would do good with that pressure!

  • Joe marcus - 3 years ago

Time to put lock in. After Thursday’s game and another loss let’s see what lock can do.

  • conrad - 3 years ago

The team is in complete disarray, It is unclear if a quarterback change will get a different result or not. On the other hand we are already losing miserably with Teddy, Re-insert Drew and once and for all know with certainty what the team has.

  • MNDESERTRAT - 3 years ago

I have followed Denver for a long time, they are my AFC team. I lived in Minnesota for 19 yrs and have followed them since I was a kid.
When Paton was brought in to replace the miserable job Elway was doing, I thought great, he will do a good job, so let's give him a chance. He did a good job in Minnesota despite dealing with Rick Spealman. Fangio needs to take control of the team and coaches.
Shermer was God awful in Minnesota and when he came to Denver all I could say is, here we go again, all one sided thinking and poor at play calling. You don't do a swing pass on 3rd and 15.
Get rid of Shermer, require Fangio to step up or get out. Let Bridgewater continue as QB and give him a chance under a real play caller.
Finally the Offensive line needs to get better quickly because no matter the QB they will get them killed.
Right now they all suck and as fans we deserve a better product than what we are getting.

How about bringing in Manning as a consultant to Shermer if they don't want to get rid of him

  • holland parran - 3 years ago

Now we have another excuse the OC and his play calling is the reason Lock was so bad. The problem with the Broncos is pressure. If the defense can pressure with just 4 guys which LV did there is nowhere to throw the ball quickly. LV put pressure up the middle and their edge rushers forced Teddy into the pressure. Cleveland is another team that can apply pressure with 4 men. Now It's up to the OC to come up with a game plan to beat that pressure. How many screens did we see last game. I can't remember a screen to the WR's in weeks. Putting in Lock won't get the plays that you need to beat a heavy rush. It can hurt the growth of Lock to get beat up like Bridgewater did last game.17 hits and 5 sacks wow!!! When you call plays that have your receivers running down field 10 to 15 yards on their routes and pressure coming from everywhere you set your QB up to get injured. Before I go We need more pressure on defense for our DB's can do a better job. We never got close to Carr. No Hits at all. The game wasn't close Just surprised we scored 24 points which is a testament to Bridgewater and the offense. The Raiders kick the tar out of us. Hope we get some draws and screens in Cleveland.

  • Liz - 3 years ago

Bridgewater, Paton, Fangio, offensive coach need to go. If Bridgewater would have not had the relationship with Paton, he would never made the team. Why would you hire some one who has never proved that he could do the job? Bridgewater bounced around to various teams because he was incompetent.

Drew deserves to replace Bridgewater. Drew was delt with playing with the second offense unit, while Bridgewater worked with first string offense at the beginning of the season. At least Drew can throw the long ball, which is needed.

Drew should definitely be the starter. After being a Broncos fan since 1970, I truly remember how bad Elways was in his beginning years & it was not pretty, but they stuck with him luckily we had a great coach, Shannah. They worked hard together and were successful. That's the current reason why the Broncos have been so bad for the last 4 or 5 years, Fangio should never been hired.

Peyton Manning really should be hired either to replace Paton or Fangio. Pat Bowlen would have done this if he was still living. Remember when they hired McDaniels and how he destroyed the Broncos & after a 1-1.5 years he was fired by Pat Bowlen.

    Drew definitely deserves to play.

  • Rocky Warta - 3 years ago

The quarterback is not the problem Teddy just does what he can do from the coaches calling plays if he had an offensive line in front of him that could block keep be the star quarterback in the league Andrew luck is not the answer you don't remember the last 3 years are you stupid get rid of the play collar quit bitching about the quarterback it starts with the coaching staff the players only do what they're told Teddy's our guy

  • David Browning - 3 years ago

Drew Lock has played 18 games with a terrible supporting cast and play callers that are suspect at best. Give him a chance with a good team around home to see what he can do.

  • Bubba - 3 years ago

Bridgewater is by far the best QB Denver has had since Manning, and he’s a stop gap veteran journeyman at best. Unless you plan to intentionally tank for a draft pick, keep Lock off the field. He’s a turnover machine. He has a big arm and that’s it. He makes horrible decisions and cant read a defense. He’s had his time to prove it. He failed. Anyone touting how good he looked in preseason, against 2nd and 3rd stringers running ho-hum offensive plays doesn't get it. They should have drafted Fields and gave him a year to learn. Lots of blame to go around Denver for the losses but I don’t think you mentioned the coaching in your article.

  • James Michael Brodie - 3 years ago

Lock is not the answer. He is not the future. Time to clean house and start over.

  • Michael - 3 years ago

Bridgewater will not beat the chiefs or the chargers or even a coach less raiders team. Anyone who thought he would was really lying to themselves. You don’t get your franchise QB in a trade for a sixth round draft pick.

Lock is done in Denver. He may turn into the QB we all hoped he would be, but it will be on a different team.

Unfortunately the biggest issue with the Broncos is the unrealistic expectations and lackluster support of this generation of Broncos fans. A product of being spoiled with all of the winning the Bowlen (and primarily Elway) years brought us. We likely won’t be great again until we have the patience to build a team and develop a QB, but that’s not likely to happen anytime soon.

  • Nick - 3 years ago

Lock looked good this offseason and nearly perfect in the first preseason game. Last year wasn't his fault, everyone got a pass because of Covid except him, and had a new offense to learn without an offseason to install it! If we get a play caller thet could use his talent he might actually get developed into a good option.

#fireshurmur and have him take bridgewater with him let's see what shula can do as interim OC with Lock. Tell fangio to stick to D and if it isn't fixed by the end of the month #firefangio on November 1st.

  • Mo - 3 years ago

Part of that lost wasn’t all on him the defense barely showed up and helped the offense and Bridgewater is a good QB he’s probs the best since Manning

  • Doug - 3 years ago

There is a reason Bridgewater is on his 4th team in 6 years, he's a career backup. If he was a quality starter, his previous employers would have kept him! Switching to Lock, at least you can observe what he can offer, and then move on from there.

  • Claude - 3 years ago

Your all nuts Teddy is best QB since Manning

  • Senor Sack - 3 years ago

No way you go with Lock, at least not yet. Way too inaccurate a thrower. If he were under the pressure that Teddy saw against LV things would have been even uglier. Lock had his chance against Baltimore and did nothing. If they drop another couples games as bad as the last 3 weeks, then yeah put Lock in. Heck put Rip in. Lets see what happens in Cleveland and after the mini-bye week.

  • Billy bronco - 3 years ago

Teddy Bridgewater is terrible. Strictly business speaking - invested a lot of capital into Drew lock just to throw the towel in on him cause Fangio went with the safe decision out of fear of losing his job, especially after only one half against Baltimore (been good on d for the past 2 decades or so) with no practice reps Wyatt....football related - teddy makes 0 throws lock can't make, and lock can flat out make throws teddy just can't. Whatever shortcomings you saw with lock in his ROOKIE AND SOPHOMORE seasons with this coaching staff y'all admit are terrible have nothing to do with arm strength or accuracy when his feet are set and he's comfortable with the read (which we saw more of as time went by)

Most of us broncos fans and the writers are so fickle they want lock just because all their other opinions haven't panned out the way they first anticipated as they overreacted throughout the preseason and first 3 weeks against mostly back ups and then weak competition, and I still think he's the right choice and it's only a matter of time before he earns another opportunity with us. Keep Glock, dump Fangio/Shurmur brain trust that passed on Devin bush and Devin white cause we had Jewell and Johnson and our QB supposedly on our roster!!!! Jewell and Johnson gone! Might as well let the QB have a chance!!!

  • Wyatt - 3 years ago

They should go after a free agent QB like a cam Newton

  • Milton - 3 years ago

I been a bronco fan since 89. I was 8 years old. I feel like Bridgewater and Lock are garbage. Should have let Peyton come back like he wanted but Elway didnt want it. My opinion Elway, the coach, Bridgewater, and Lock should go. Or bring Peyton as a coach or give him Elway spot. Until that happens Denver will be the worst team ever. Lack of communication and teamwork. I said it.

  • Bill - 3 years ago

Same Bridgwater ,different uniform. Plays brilliantly when everything is perfect, falls apart slightest thing out of sinc Lock at least has a chance

  • Ron - 3 years ago

Bridgewater is consistently overthrowing his receivers, that is not a coaching problem. Bridgewater is accurate when he is not pressured. Better teams have figured out if you put pressure on Bridgewater he loses focus. The Denver coaching staff is too predictable in their play selection...

  • Larie Richardson - 3 years ago

Absolutely we should start Lock. Bridgewater has progressively gotten worse. The Baltimore game Lock cane in cold no reps in practice. Fangio direct know how to develop a QB. Last year totally on Fangio not Lock. No consistency at OC in Locks 1,5 years at starter. He deserves a shot!! Saying he had a shot is total BS!! He should never been made a back up to Bridgewater to begin with!

  • Ron - 3 years ago

Bridgewater folds when he is pressured, time for Drew. Bridgewater should have been benched when he got the concussion...

  • Ron Escamila - 3 years ago

Bridgewater had his opportunity, I think Bridgewater has had many opportunities as a NFL quarterback to prove he can compete in the NFL and has yet to prove he belongs. Drew Lock has not really been given the same opportunities as Bridgewater. I think Bridgewater should have been benched when he suffered the concussion. Time for Lock to take his place at QB....

  • wyatt - 3 years ago

no, no, no, no, no. Drew Lock had a shot vs. Baltimore and in the past. He was good enough to make the NFL, but he has made it obvious that he won't be (or just can't seem to get there now) worthy of the position of starting quarterback in football's best league. The amount of disrespect that this question puts on Teddy's back. He has a good completion percentage, its just slipped since the concussion, I'm hoping that its just a little bit of timidness that is keeping him from being the September Teddy Broncos fans were all falling in love with.

  • Dean - 3 years ago

The problems lies with the coaching staff. The Offensive line needs help. Doesnt matter who QB is if play calling is horrible and defense is giving up points. Fangio should NOT be calling the defense and Offense should be more aggressive. Lock at least gives you the long ball.
