Most people would say at remote home care is strictly inferior to inpatient care. I'd guess most deductibles are in the 1500-3500 range, which you'll blow past getting treated for whatever you're recovering from. Then I'd also guess most insurance doesn't have a copay/coinsurance on inpatient stays, therefore to the patient there isn't any difference in cost between staying inpatient or going home to be monitored. So why would patients choose the perceived inferior option? I suspect I would try to be staying inpatient until they needed the bed, insurance kicked me out, or the food did me in.

For many people, at-home care is not a realistic scenario, as it requires a "recovery atmosphere and the support help. There should be flexibility and options provided for how someone recovers from a hospital (or even ASC) stay. Triaging the at-home stay from a practicality point of view, to prevent adverse outcomes post surgery, will be very important.
