The writers who were not original fans basically said what’s the worst possible way we can end the series? And then proceeded to write that into fruition. Dumpster fire ending just destroyed your gold mine show.

  • A Rios - 3 years ago

You killed Dexter you killed the fan base. Not only do you rob us of the excitement of a season 2 dynamic father/son duo, but you finish him off for ever in a weak as hell way that makes them out to be below average intelligence people and not high IQ high functioning sociopaths. I would have rather you not do a second series if your plan was just to kill him from the start anyway. I’d go watch paint dry on my fence in a hurricane before watching a Dexter season with no Dexter, or ghost Dexter being irrelevant like Deb.

  • Fuzzymaiden - 3 years ago

Its should have been DEXTER & SON duo.. for atleast 1 year.. THEN you could kill dexter off after weve gotten to KNOW HARRISON AND SEE HIS "SKILL" with the dark passenger..youd give US ENOUGH TIME TO GET USED TO HARRISON and he could carry his own show.. come on guys.. we needed at least 1 SEASON father son duo..

  • OKGirl1976 - 3 years ago

    3 words...

    "WAKE UP DEXTER!!!"

I don't believe that Dexter is gone. Debra wasn't there for the difficult time. I think Dexter was having a nightmare.

  • Shari - 3 years ago

I enjoyed the "New Blood" Dexter....{Not impressed with the cold weather location, though). I feel Jack did a great job as Harrison.THAT BEING SAID ......My great dissapointmentd with the series was, .."that Dexter died". I read that he would and Harrison would kill him. I hoped against hope that it wasn't really going to happen....The finale' was a giant dissapoint to all Dexter fans...DEXTER "WOULD NOT HAVE KILLED, LOGAN, PERIOD!"...Dex told Harrison "It was the only way I could get back to you"....WHAAAT!!?!?..NO WAY!!!!! Dex would have been exonerated....and if the file Batista had was so full of evidence it would have come out sooner...while Dex was still in Miami.....I agree with a lot of other fans that commented here and say..."Season 2" shows it was a dream or a staged kill to let Dex an Harison getaway....Dexter was way too smart for it to end this was.....It portrayed him as weak, desperate, and scared....THAT IS NOT THE DEXTER WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE !!!

  • Kristi - 3 years ago

RUINED IT!!! I would never watch a spin off.
Thanks for fun*king up the best series.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Michael Foster - 3 years ago

How could they possibly kill Dexter!?! Absolutely crazy idea Actually I still can’t believe it Hopefully someone is going to figure out the way to bring him back ( maybe as a ghost) in the next season It’s really a shame what happened in this season finale Except of that, whole season was great I loved every moment of it

  • Jimmy - 3 years ago

I would never watch the spin off with Harrison, I would only watch it if they somehow bring back dexter alive. Sorry but I didn’t want to see him dead.

  • Janice - 3 years ago

WHY!!!!! I refuse to watch this show EVER AGAIN!!!! Dexter was the most interesting character there was and now if there is a season two we have to see him the way he saw deb, what a waste of the most exciting character any of us ever seen. I can’t believe Michael C. Hall agreed to even be in the finale, the Harrison character just doesn’t have the chops to replace dexter, he’s rather boring and he’s to wishy washy for me. Please take the time to think of a way to have dexter cheat death other wise you are going to lose a crap load of viewers. Not sure you had thought this plot through, if I have to watch another season of of dexter Acting like Deb I will most certainly lose my mind. I think I would rather eat glass!!!
PLEASE RETHINK SEASON TWO AND BRING DEXTER BACK!!

  • Tim - 3 years ago

This show was surprisingly solid overall. Unfortunately, as Clyde Phillips said, the ending of Harrison killing Dexter was painfully forced, which it was as they spent their time reverse engineering the events that led to it.

Dexter had to break character (and his code) way too many times for the sake of the plot and building tension. Then, the annoying ridiculous plot development through coincidences. Like, give me a break this small town police officer runs into MIAMI METRO, then, by chance unnecessarily go into deep exposition about a very coincidental serial killer.

Just lazy trash. Then Dexter just blatantly going on an emotional jail break on the brink of freedom.. for reasons. The cold, calculated, genius serial killer just didn't exist this season. As I said, it was solid overall (I gave it a C) but fuck off with this lazy writing.

  • Rhonda Desrochers - 3 years ago

No to a Harrison spinoff! He killed Dexter and I never want to see his face again.

  • Gracie - 3 years ago

Hated this finale. The original made a certain amt of sense, and it left us with a little hope for his return...or the possibility of his own redemption. He was the fearless, Apex predator for 8 seasons, and we loved him for that. This additional season made him break Harry's Code in ways he would have never done before. The guilty pleasure of watching the original was that he always found his way out of even the most dire situations. If I wanted a morality tale where the killer is brought to justice, I'd be watching Law & Order. To see him taken down by the Sheriff of a one-horse town in the sticks, with all his past secrets exposed, IMO did a disservice to the character, and to fans like me. Forget about a spinoff with his son. I never want to see that little brat's face again. Dexter's fatal mistake was letting that kid back into his life at all. Does anyone really believe this kid will be better off NOW? Please. He'd be more screwed up than ever.

  • Masuka’s daughter - 3 years ago

The letter to Hannah was pure BS. “Let me die so my son can live”. Deadbeat dads everywhere must love that. Dex felt like the fine folks in Iron Lake were in no danger from him, but his son was much better off being raised by a serial killer in a foreign country. A laughable attempt at explaining an indefensible ending to the original show.

  • Linda - 3 years ago

In my opinion it was a rotten ending of Dexter! All Dexter had to do was get a good lawyer! There was nothing connecting him to any of the murders! I think Angela would have bought it that Kurt framed Dexter. Batista had no proof on him either that he was the Bay Harbour Butcher. The flaw was that he killed the Coach! The writing was terrible! There was absolutely no point in bringing Dexter back just to have his son kill him! How was that a better ending? The only thing that was good was Dexter’s letter to Hannah & that Harrison found it! Otherwise it was A waste of time & sad????

  • Dream Sequence - 3 years ago

This is a case of the writers getting too deeply engrossed in their art to see the simple, big picture: we want to be entertained. We have a character we like to watch and Showtime is making metric tons of money with their highest viewership numbers ever. There were so many other great ways out of this story (unless this is a dream sequence as I believe). The only way the out-of-character behavior (Dexter, Ange, Harrison) makes sense is a dream sequence. Dex has always been stone cool under pressure and he knew they had no case against him for the Iron Lake crimes or BHB. He knew he would be released the next morning for lack of evidence to file charges. Furthermore, he would not have asked Logan for the keys when we have seen Dex successfully use controlled choke holds to limit blood flow and cause loss of consciousness. And we would NEVER have had to kill an innocent, Logan. And Clyde must be covering for this when he says that Ange was compassionate, because sending Harrison to live on the streets is something no professional like her would do, or no mother could do. So, nice try, but the story (and characters) and common business sense for Showtime indicate that this is a dream sequence which gives them a path to another season. I sure hope so. We have a character we like and we sure as hell need to be entertained because the moment we pull our faces out the TV we are a world with pandemics, economic strife, and so many other challenges. And only a live Dexter - no voices in Harrson's head. We won't watch Harrison. He can't carry this.

  • Terry G - 3 years ago

I agree with Joe Holloway - SHOWTIME--- If Dexter is really dead, I will not watch any more of this series or any series related to this or any other thing produce by anyone related to this. I will cast a jaundiced eye on all other SHOWTIME series! This really upsets me! "This death will stick. We're not gonna pull a fast one on the audience. I have too much respect and gratitude for them." BS This is not about YOU! ????

  • Rich Recchia - 3 years ago

The show finally got the ending it deserved. Very well done. The final scene between Dexter and Harrison was very well written and acted. I was not surprised about what Harrison said to Dexter and I actually agreed with everything he said. I think that Harrison finally saw him for the monster he was really was and I think the viewers did too. This guy was a serial killer who not only killed his victims but chopped them up to pieces as well. I almost think the writers didn’t want us to love Dexter at the end. Is that a crazy idea?

I really do hope this is the end of the series and that there will not be another season. Just let it die.

  • Deb - 3 years ago

This was the best finale I’ve ever watched, the ending was so unexpected. Dexter has always been able to get out of tight spots he’s in; but I was shocked that he would die; and now leaving me wanting more Michael C Hall Dexter, not His son. Harrison was not a likable character and can not carry a series, and he did not learn enough from his father on how to navigate not to get caught. I have watched Dexter since the first episode of the original show, I will really miss his dark humor, fighting skills and intelligence (Harrison can’t pull that off). I am really hoping all this was a nightmare Dexter was having prior to leaving for Los Angles.

  • LD - 3 years ago

Plot holes, weak writing, and a rushed conclusion. The plot leaps we're unrealistic. I knew how it was going to end but the journey there was not a linear path.
Not often in life do you get a second chance. I wish they would have taken their time and planned this one better

  • Jason faulkner - 3 years ago

The Actor that plays Harrison did a fantastic job but he couldnt carry a series. End it here. Coach Logan didnt need to die.

  • Joe Holloway - 3 years ago

Extremely disappointed, I don’t care how many people didn’t like the ending of the original series. I loved the fact that Dexter cheated death and the police.
I did not watch Dexter because I wanted a lesson in ethics and morals. In my opinion Phillips was extremely lazy with the ending. Nothing short of pandering to the critics..
At least the finale of the Sopranos allowed me to decide Tony’s fate.
This was not a shocking ending it won’t turn the internet upside down. When my friend told me that Dexter was returning I said I hope it doesn’t return because they will just bring him back to kill him. I had no interest in that ending.
You failed and I feel you betrayed the series. Dexter was the smartest man in the room always. He wasn’t super human but he has extremely strong Survival instincts. Yet you want us to believe that Lundy and all of his experience not to mention officers on the case couldn’t identify Dexter but a local small town cop who by the way hasn’t been able to crack a 25 year case with Kurt is going to be the one to bring Dexter to justice?
The only logical ending would have been for Dexter to pack up and leave after the way she treated him at Christmas. His instincts would have screamed get out.
I can only speak for myself but you ruined The franchise!

  • John g Hernandez - 3 years ago

I feel if Sgt Logan would of not died then Harrison I feel would of left with Dexter. Then they would be on the run from the law. To me they only had circumstantial evidence. No one outside of Harrison saw he's Dad kill someone. The other kills hard no witnesses. No evidence connecting Dexter to all the murders. Maybe like in many store lines the person who gets shot turns up alive.

  • Trav - 3 years ago

I honestly loved this season and the finale. Episode 9 was one of the best written shows I’ve ever seen, especially as a longtime fan of Dexter. The Season 8 finale was so wrong for so many reasons, but most importantly Dexter needed to meet his maker and putting him in a jail cell and a trial would have been the worst possible outcome. I did wish the series was a standard 12 episodes because there were some missing pieces imo. I wish Harrison had more time understanding his father and they had more experiences together. It seemed too short lived. But I’d be really interested in a series about Harrison where maybe Dexter could play a small supporting role similar to Harry. A+ for New Blood. If you’re a true Dexter fan, this was the best way for them to end this iconic series. Bravo

  • Howard Wereold - 3 years ago

To everyone saying there should have been a trial in season 2, this isn't Law and Order.

I would be happy if the series is finished. It came to a good conclusion.

I was entertained by New Blood.

  • Howard Wereold - 3 years ago

Ended the way it was supposed to end. I thought it was a satisfying end to Dexter. I thought he should have perished in the original series by the hurricane as karma/redemption.

This series brought back the tension and drama that I remember from the original series. The finale was incredibly intense. I was drawn in the whole time.

  • Linty - 3 years ago

TERRIBLE! It had so much possibility and promise, but the plot holes were unforgivable and the rushed nature of the show made the plot holes even more obvious. If they weren’t going to do it justice, then they shouldn’t have revived it unless/until they could. I’m sorry, but Clyde Phillips ruined the show and embarrassed himself with all the posturing about how fans were going to be completely shocked and it would bust the internet. Fans have literally been wary of Harrison killing Dexter since episode 2. This ending m, combined with all of the unforgivable plot holes of the season actually makes the lumberjack ending better. It’s almost like Clyde Phillips and company said “oh you thought the lumberjack ending was terrible, huh? Hold me beer and watch this while I show you what terrible really looks like.”

  • Wendy Welch - 3 years ago

What a complete FAILURE!!!! Thank you for wasting my time! We waited how long for Dexter to come back, and then you kill him? What a joke this was; now I want to forget this season ever existed!!

  • Jesus Jones - 3 years ago

fuck Clyde Phillips for ruining Dexter!

  • Bebe - 3 years ago

I would like him to wake up and it turns out it was just blanks in the gun.Than Dexter moves and contintes all over under a new identity for more seasons.

  • PM-24-7 - 3 years ago

The end was perfect. Show needed proper closure. 10 episodes was the perfect amount of time to re-engage and care about the show/character again and the finality of the ending punctuates perfectly. Masterful job this season. Thanks Dexter Team!

I definitely think the BHB should've went on trial and been executed and the 2nd season followed that. All the hype and glamorizing of serial killers -whether morally ambiguous vigilantes or not- could be explored inside and around Dexter culminating in that execution scene and final narration. Even though it would be inevitable, it would be satisfying. This, this ending was predictable and unsatisfying. I knew that Harrison was going to kill him as soon as I heard Harrison was involved (before airing the first episode). I think the finale only got good (as a finale) when the possibility of the BHB being brought to light emerged. They could have built on that and let us examine Dexter (as he sees himself and as he is seen by society) in one final season (6 episodes?) with a nice, neat bow at the end. I think this season was great up until that decision to shift in that last scene. I don't think that ending was "good writing." I will definitely not watch a spin-off based on Harrison based on this ending. Yes, I am a bit peeved because they could have teased out all of these arcs nicely. Instead, they just threw a bow on it and called it a day. So much wasted potential.

  • Wendy - 3 years ago

    Great ending
    Why drag these shoes out
It was a great season and ended perfectly

  • Jessup - 3 years ago

I liked this finale. Dexter was supposed to die. And Harrison was always destined to kill Dexter. I didn’t like the idea of a continuation—it already felt a little sad without living Deb, Batista, Masuka, and the others. Time to end this chapter. They did well.

  • Jack - 3 years ago

I am hoping that they make another season to look back at how Harrison grew up with Hannah, to find out how she died and his travels across the Americas. Taking us into the present where Harrison continues his father's legacy.

  • Kevin Murphy - 3 years ago

The creator said the finale "would blow up the internet" but people predicted weeks ago that Harrison would wind up killing his dad.
    Boring!
A better ending would have had Dexter killing his son. Future seasons would have seen him become a REAL monster.
That would have blown the internet up.

  • Karma - 3 years ago

I truly love Michael C. Hall, he has portrayed Dexter for so long, seeing him die was super sad. Just like when Rita died in S4. I was hoping Dexter wld stay alive and him and Harrison could live a somewhat "normal" life. And then, eventually, Sgt. Doakes would come back and be like, "Surprise Motherfucker!" You thought I died in that explosion, but I have been tracking you down..." and Dexter would have had to kill Doakes again to maintain his cover. Anywho, it was a bittersweet episode. I don't feel Logan had to die and I thought Harrison would have run off with his Dad, bc either way they could not stay in Iron Lake anymore. Definitely a better ending than the 1st ending though.

  • Carbon - 3 years ago

The ending is a failure because whoever wrote the story made Harrison a killer. Now what's the difference between Dexter and Harrison. Killing is killing whether he chops the body afterwards for disposal or not.

  • nate - 3 years ago

why they gotta kill him off like that. it was looking like he would walk free and this wasnt necessary

  • Jim - 3 years ago

We cannot all assume Dexter is dead. Perhaps the announcement on Monday will be something of a continuation with a trial of the BHB after a recovery in the hospital. One can hope!

  • Krista - 3 years ago

I don’t understand why people are saying it’s the end of Dexter. Season 2 most likely will be Harrison continuing Dexters work and seeing Dexter the way Dexter saw his father. Although I didn’t see this coming I do think it will work and it makes sense because it’s not just Dexter all over again.
This is a very well written show with excellent acting and well rounded characters. I am glad they are doing a re-boot with a twist.

  • Mike - 3 years ago

complete fail. if there is a spin off, dexter would be in Harrisons thoughts "guiding him" right? i wished they had a trial in Florida, seeing most if the original cast and execution would have been a great 2nd season and dexter ending. like i said complete fail.

  • Candy - 3 years ago

Should’ve been another season with them together, spin-off with Harrison isn’t going to make it

  • Erik - 3 years ago

I was hoping there would be another season with Dexter in LA. I wish Dexter and his son would go to LA and conclude it there. I guess you cant string it along for so long, but thats the end of Dexter Morgan.
