Grade the Steelers hire of Brian Flores

It was an ok hire, nothing to set the world on fire. I would have rather seen them go after Don Martindale from Baltimore. What's better than raiding a divisional opponent's cupboard?! Besides, what would scare an OC more; facing a Baltimore D or a Miami D?

I think that hire was righteous. When you have the opportunity to hire a genius to do what he does, is the Right thing to do. Especially when all the cream puffs around you are doing the opposite. Dan Rooney’s conviction to the situation shines like the sun in a dark situation. If what Brian Flores says is true, the law suit seems righteous also. Wake up owners before you run a good thing with greed and bias. By the way, I am bias, because I am and always will be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. It’s reasons like this that says I’ll never turn my back on them.

I feel that bringing in Flores is a very smart and daring move by the STEELER hierarchy. The addition of his defensive view and ideas can be an immense benefit to our staff. His reputation for schemes and player movement on the defense precede him. I feel that this is a wise move.

I am always amazed at those individuals, who always bring race into the subject. The man's expertise has nothing to do with the color of his skin. These type of individuals have got to be, and live miserable lives. They seem to make a heaven out of hell, and a hellout of heaven. If they are blessed to have any children, i absolutely feel sorry for the way they feel about the mistreatment of minorities. Kudos to the Rooney"s and the Pittsburgh Steeler Organization God bless the organization, and Coach Flores. Coaching hire in my book A P.S. Lord, please bless Mr. John Anthony Kadunce and his Children.

great coach it will be good if he has full range of coaching & tomlin stays to just being head coach

  • Anthony S Rodi - 2 years ago

Perfect jigsaw puzzle guy when he has all the pieces in place. Defense will be ranking 1 thru 3 in every statistical category this upcoming season.

  • Dick - 2 years ago

Regardless of this abilities, the fact that he is suing the NFL is going to be his major focus going forward. And it will be a significant distraction both for him and for the team. It appears that his hiring was likely a political statement on the part of Rooney and likely an act of friendship on the part of Tomlin. Those may be noble reasons depending on your point of view but neither is necessarily consistent with enhancing team success.

  • tom - 2 years ago

I think another locker room distraction is the last thing the Steelers need going into the 2022 season.

  • Chuck - 2 years ago

He ran an entire organization and was relatively successful. I think handling part of the defense is well within his wheel house. It is only a matter of time that he will again be successful and Pittsburgh is the place to learn what he needs to know to avoid the Political Drama that is the NFL.

I like the hire a lot! The Steelers needed to bring in new blood with ideas, as long as Tomlin will stay the roll of head coach and not micromanage allowing the assistants to do their job!!! There is no reason for him to be calling the defense plays if he has quality people working for him!!!

Hiring a coach who is in the middle of a lawsuit ,especially a racist one,was a stupid move on the part of the Rooney’s.This only adds to a team that is in a turmoil on offense and defense and is not of playoff caliber.
It is hard to take that the Rooney’s gave a new contract to Tomlin who is a mediocre coach at best.Look at his record for the last 6:years.
All the Steelers fans, local and nationwide, have are memories of past generations.

In reference to the comment from John Anthony Kadunce, your ignorant commentary shows that the dunce part of your last name is spot on. That stupid and racist comment shows that we have a long way to go. Wow!

Hopefully, a good move as long as Flores and Fitzpatrick don't resort to bloody fisticuffs. I would hate to see those sideline shenigans after AB's time here.

I see, yet another year, of the Steelers losing a majority of their star players to Free Agency. If the Steelers can't keep their players from leaving...they should sell the team to someone who can move it to Las Vegas and spend money!

    The major question is:

Who would win a fist fight?
    Fitzpatrick or Flores?

  • Marky Mark - 2 years ago

A Good Move. The Steelers D Line is bad, with a few exceptions. The Linebackers, with the exception of Watt, is a NFL JOKE. Want to win, EVERYTIME, vs the Steelers...Just Run The Ball. Simple And Humiliating.

I really think the Steelers will be the AFC North Basement Team for many years. Let's face it, compared to the other North teams, we STINK! Bad Toilet Stank.

Flores' hiring will not stop the Inevitable Steelers Losing Seasons, but, it is DEFINITELY a good move in the Right Direction.

One Big Factor with the Stiller organization is that they do not tolerate any type of drama within the TEAM. Now with Florde's will be in the middle of his lawsuit with the mother NFL at the start of 2022 season. Where will the focus of Coach Florde's be with the lawsuit or helping the STILLERS??????

I don't think hiring a bitter, angry man with sour grapes is the way to go. The optics of hiring him now are also kind of bad. The cynical side of me sees this a a way to deflect criticism away from Mike Tomlin. Maybe it will all work out, but I'm surprised that the Rooney family would want the media circus that comes with Flores now.

  • John Anthony Kadunce - 2 years ago

One thing is missing from the Steelers that's present in many Super Bowl teams today and it will probably get worse. What is it? White, smart, football players! The patriots knew this for years. They always had some white pass catchers. The Rams know this just look at Kupp for one! The NFL has tried making a black quarterback a Super Bowl winner for years now with no success! They bring you the running, black, quarterback with no success! Now the Steelers want you to believe their black coach is great while this average black coach has hidden behind a great quarterback his whole coaching fiasco! He should have been fired years ago if it were not for the owners trying to make this idiot a great coach due to their rule.

I am excited that the Steelers got coach Flores. I would have given it an A but I decided to give it a B simply because of the unknown. As long as it is 100% about him coaching and nothing else, I'll give it an A. BUt I need to see zero drama first.

@ A Locke: Fitzpatrick doesn’t get a say. He’s a player, not management. Flores will help the defense and he’ll directly benefit.

  • Dave - 2 years ago

Coach Flores is an excellent coach with a strong defensive background. He will definitely improve the play of the front seven. It was an excellent move for the Steelers. I am proud to be a Steelers Fan. We are clearly the best run organization in the NFL.

  • Howard Ashcraft - 2 years ago

I believe this was an excellent decision by the Steelers front office. He will definitely help the defense be dominate.

  • Tony Lovato - 2 years ago

My guess is this is a big time move for Steelers Management. Welcome Coach Flores

  • Forrest Goodlette - 2 years ago

    Completely agree with all comments!
Flores will definitely turn things around
and the Steelers should be commended
on a professional hire! Already looking
forward to the season to start!
I also feel the other new editions to the
    coaching staff will be good.

  • A Locke - 2 years ago

Anybody ask Fitzpatrick what he thinks? Asking for a friend

  • Big City Crash - 2 years ago

Great Move. Steelers Nation Baby !

  • Ldyvett99 - 2 years ago

    Classy move!

  • william deater - 2 years ago

I like the hire but youre info is wrong..Flores is not replacing Austin as lb coach..Austin was the DB''s coach..Perhaps a little research before you write would be helpful

  • art - 2 years ago

It was time for somebody to say something about systematic racisms that was and is affecting the level of professionalism within the sport. Even if that coach was probably going to be blackballed and railroaded to the side. Great move for the Steelers, PR wise and professionally ! They got a great coach, and their image within the players and minority coaches has gone up 300 %.

  • Mark - 2 years ago

Great hire for a coach that never should have been fired. The problem with the NFL is allowing a person like Ross to be an owner.
