Disappointed that they have not 1 but 2 characters turning to substance abuse, not present the books

I watched the entirely of Outlander early in the pandemic and since then have been reading the books (in the middle of book 9). So this is the first time I’ve watched the TV series after reading the book (book 6 was one of my favorites).

Frankly, I was a bit disappointed in episode 1 (I’m not one of those who thinks that books are always better). It was just a set up episode. I get why, but the episode was just too long for that purpose. Either it should have been shorter, or just use the first half of the episode as set up, and then move the story forward.

Having waited 2 years for Outlander to return to us, frankly, I was underwhelmed. Too many story lines involved. It seemed a rather Matched-together episode. Loved it nonetheless. Just hoping future episodes are more streamlined as previous years.

Are you all book reading fans? If you are, you know what's coming! We need to introduce these characters before they turn the Ridge upside down in chaos and peril. If you are a loyal fan of the series, then you would appreciate taking a breath after watching Claire's kidnapping, torture and gang rape for as long as Jamie's flashback is in this show: 15 min! We know some serious sh*t is coming, and after the serious sh*t that happened, I appreciated a quieter episode. But it was certainly filled with tension and foreboding.

I thought the prison story was too long and didn't really add much to the show. So why is Furgus becoming a drunk? I'm still upset over rapid aging of Claire. She's like 55 and I know many folks go gray fast but not as much as they are making her. I found the episode lacking something not sure what. Let's hope it picks up in the next episode.

I agree with Mary. Slow for sure but they ARE setting the stage for upcoming episodes. The flashback lasted too long. I'll give it a pass as long as the next episode shows the results of all the tension created last night. Can't wait!!

Loved it, they did a good job of bringing everything going on together for the season. I still don’t like Tom Christie, and I’m already jealous on Bree’s behalf about Roger beginning to assist the widow.

sorry to say I was pretty disappointed. I found the episode very slow and a bit boring.
