Very cool, nuanced and understated, chique as hell despite the anticlimax with the 12.
Within the space of this one episode, we see them make up on an island, go camping, come to terms with everything they've done in a cabin, sit by a fire, do dishes share a bed, take a piss and kiss, ride together and walk together down a road. It's a marriage story, well executed, enough said. They're no longer the Eve and Villanelle from earlier. One of them dies. The relationship ends. I'm all for lesbian loves living on screen but maybe it's time to also accept them as the new Romeo and Juliet and they've definitely done way more together than those two!

Jodie Comer and Sandro Oh of course have done an absolute fabulous job with the metamorphosis of their characters. Something to truly savour.

Any end will be anticlimactic in a series like this, but this makes it an adult love story in the best possible sense besides the best feminist take on all things in western canon of all kinds - myths, movies, religion. I cannot state this enough. Kudos to the whole team and to the writers, the set designers, costumes, the music, the edits, and the actors. A story well told.

Appropriate ending don’t forget V was a psychopathic killer who really didn’t deserve to live and probably would not be able to function in a real relationship . Eve was also becoming a killer with less skill and so she had a path to redemption ahead of her . Probably years of therapy too.

How on earth was Laura Neal allowed to get near this show? It's like what the fans were watching for 4 seasons was a completely different show. And her "felt right" was a very, very misguided morality, one that completely disregarded the representation Sandra Oh and Jodie took so very seriously--it is a complex representation, but she couldn't be bothered. Writers like Neal need to remember that they really do write for the audience and not for some higher art that only exists in their heads. They clearly had no real appreciation for the characters, the fans, the actors, or for that matter, the show itself. And please, do not let Laura Neal write for queer characters ever again. She lost that privilege.

I have watched this season finale 5 times I’m still very much pissed off. I DGAF who died/how or why …. Eve & Villanelle deserved at least 1 episode of their friendship, relationship and love for one another to manifest itself. Why did ya do this !!? They really short changed us, I take that back- they really slapped us in the face and expect us to act like it didn’t happen.

I thought it was a good ending. We all knew someone was going to die and I thought maybe both would die together. Eve seems to be the only one that escapes death all the time. Will miss the two characters for sure. I loved all the main characters. Still not clear on why Carolyn was playing both sides but I guess she loved the game.

    What an exhausting season.

You can tell the authors aren’t aware of the impacts of queer media and how tired the ‘bury your gays trope’ is. There will always be an excuse, but in a world where happy queer media is few and far between and tragic stories are common. I would say that this is a fail.

So....ending was very good, not great, but still mostly satisfying. If you know tarot, you know that the death card is not about death, but about new beginnings and rebirth. Overall, I actually thought it was all wrapped up too nicely. My theory on who killed V, the agent who picked up Carolyn at the airport. Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer were phenomenal!

well....I thought it was a beautiful ending. perfect and beautifully shot. I was even ready to let go of the trope of same sex couples ending in disaster... I could see the rational. I will so miss it, but the end was perfect, all it could be.

I agree with the comments suggesting a poor finale. A missed opportunity.

I felt there were some great, beautiful moments in the finale. However, the more I think about it, the ending appears to be downright mean. I thought SE3 was the worst. SE4 had the huge task of turning things around and I feel it succeeded in many ways, but that ending is hard to swallow. The series (however flawed) is still worth watching for Jodie Comer's performance alone.

I feel the whole last series has been weak in all manner of motivations.
Had it have been a filler middle season I’d have been glad to delve deeper into Carolyn’s past and whole history with Constantine because it genuinely engaging.
    However.
All of us have been hanging on and Eeking out the series knowing it’s that last, hoping for some consolation and ending however frustrating and tragic. A completion to the circle.
I’ve loved to see Eve’s transition, it’s akin to Walter whites in breaking bad but feel they really sold villanelle down the river. Literally.
From those bloody sandals to the whole Jesus thing.
Pining one minute then nonchalant the next, I feel she really got lost and feel despite the road trip, villanelle and eves story wasn’t closed enough to make us satisfied.
I knew a death or two would come, and chances are it would be her.
But I feel the sloppiness of the lack of substance to the final death made the whole thing just frustrating. Like being ripped from a dream that you were really enjoying.

Sally's, Laura's &Sandra O's vision of their ending to be as a rebirth for Eve?? That's not what the audience saw in the messages the great actors were giving. As a much OLDER wise and intelligent person, This ruined what could have been the greatest love story ever. Had your blinders on. V didn't take down the 12 for Eve, she was always going to do it herself . Killed Helene and told everyone including Gunn, Konstatin, etc. she was going to. That's another incorrect statement. Carolyn ordering the kill, for a shocker, stupidity!!!! So growth and development thrown out for V and Eve. They actually could settle down domestically. And do in Luke's book so who were you to say it was impossible for them. Rebirth? There are not enough words in the dictionary for me to express how poorly that decision was for your own personal vision and not the true characters. Final grade: E

So many naysayers. I absolutely loved the final series and thought the final episode very nuanced. The most important characters were always Eve, Villanelle and Carolyn. Their development, motivation and future were central to the final episode. Its was like elements coming together, reaching critical mass and exploding.

Laura Neal seems to believe she is “above” the fan base intellectually. Neal clearly lacks awareness, the finale (and much of season 4 and parts of S3), was painfully out of touch/missed the mark. The acting is so phenomenal that the show still is mostly brilliant despite the poor writing and directing.

I didn’t see a rating if HG ( hot garbage) or I would have selected that. Just awful.

  • Cinthia - 2 years ago

Esse final foi ridículo, a temporada em si foi ridícula, mal aproveitada e feita de qualquer jeito. Um desrespeito com as personagens, com a história e principalmente com os fãs. Volte lá e reescreva novamente. LAURA NEAL ????????????????????

  • Gloria - 2 years ago

Desfecho fraquíssimo. A diretora não entendeu as outras temporadas ou ao menos assistiu! O Grito de "alívio" se configurou claramente como desespero. Decepcionada, 4 anos acompanhando pra ver esse final péssimo e sem nexo.

Poor ending. The scream did not resemble one of a new life but rather hurt and anger and deep sorrow over V’s death. And, Eve did “jump into the water to save V” as this columnist states. Rather, V pushed Eve into the water in an attempt to save her from being sniped as well. Very weak scene if killing The 12; weak unimpressive ending.

  • Stephanie Martinez - 2 years ago

The finale was awful, disappointing, and lazy. I absolutely did not get anything resembling liberation in Eve’s scream. There were so many missed opportunities to tie it all together with respect to the overall aesthetic. Pam was a ridiculous character who should’ve been replaced by someone Villanelle knew. Villanelle should’ve killed Pam at the very least, it would’ve been fitting end for her. I could go on. The end will go down as one of the greatest finale failures of all time. Killing Eve deserved more.

  • Maria - 2 years ago

I didn't like the finale. That being said, it was a great finale. Just not the one I would have hoped for. The only thing that made sense was Vilanelle's death, altough I wish she hadn't died it wouldn't have made sense for her to live.

  • Harry - 2 years ago

Laura Neal ruined 'Killing Eve', she made it pedestrian, boring, not even a good sex scene between Villanella and Gunn. Not even any good killing scenes, cop-outs everywhere, and killing the 12 - just shadow-boxing. I agree with others on the Finale, like Game of Thrones, a forgettable let-down. Don't hire Laura Neal - she doesn't make good watching, and betrays the audience.

  • Robert Pettengill - 2 years ago

Ms. Neal's rationale for this absolutely atrocious ending to what had been an important, mesmerizing series confirms that, whatever her talents are, she is completely blind to the implied contract between storyteller and audience that, when you ask someone to invest their time, attention and feelings into a story and it's characters, you have an obligation to provide a fair rate of return on that investment. Ms. Neal and her team of "writers" clearly didn't write that finale for fans of the show; they wrote it (and, it would seem, the entire incomprehensible fourth season) for their own self-indulgent, over-thinking egos. I, for one, will never watch another thing to which Ms. Neal's name is attached, because she has proven she can't be trusted to care for her audience. I will also stay away from Ms. Waller-Bridge because, as gifted a writer as she has proven herself to be, she effing allowed this to happen to something wonderful she created. You. Wasted. Our. Time. Shame on you.

The title is Killing Eve so Eve being killed instead of Villanelle would have tied everything up nicely???? plus the ending doesn't coincide with the tarot card reading????

  • Janis - 2 years ago

First season was good but every season was harder for me to follow. Glad it’s over so I don’t waste anymore time on this show.

  • Lauren - 2 years ago

Disappointed we didn't get to see the rest of the 12 considering the whole show was about them giving the orders.

  • bryan plank - 2 years ago

this was picked of many endings? as a person with english degrees and proust credits for the yale univ press edition, it is a compromise cop out — too much out-and-out filler, carolyn as ‘victor,’ killing a bunch of cooks with no purpose, really?
