National Boys Performer Of The Week (5/9-5/15)
Gary Martin, Archbishop Wood (PA): The ultimate team player. Not only did Martin run a 3:57.98 full mile, becoming the 14th high school athlete to achieve that feat. But he also ran a 1:51 800m and ran 49.2 on the anchor of his team's 4x4 to finish out the meet.
Pierre Goree, Duncanville (TX): Goree finally got his wind-legal time. The Duncanville senior and SMU recruit won the UIL Class 6A 100m title in 10.22 and also anchored his team's winning 4x100 in 39.98.
Will Sumner, Woodstock (GA): Sumner's back. The Georgia-based star tied for a U.S. No. 1 lead in the 400m, running a Class 7A winning time of 45.78 on Saturday at his state championships.
Myles Hogan, Fordham Prep (NY): The New York-based senior dropped a major 3,200m performance at the Loucks Game, winning in a star-studded field over the last 200m in 8:47.20.
Darius Rainey, Summer Creek (TX): He was arguably the MVP of the Texas Outdoor Championships. First came the expected win in the 800m, in a career-best 1:50.63. Then came a surprise win in the 400m, in a career-best 46.36. Then came his wild sub-46 anchor split to help Summer Creek win a team title.
Cyrus Ways, Nease (FL): The Penn State recruit scored the hurdle double at the FHSA Class 4A state meet, winning the 110mH in 13.53w and the 300mH in 36.26, both new career bests.
Micah Larry, Montverde Academy (FL): He officially blossomed into a star, winning the FHSAA Class 2A 100m (10.46) and 200m (21.06). But his biggest moment was his top 50 world-mark in the LJ, going 7.91 (25-11.5) meters.
Jace Posey, Houston Strake Jesuit (TX): The son of James Posey had an absolutely 'on-fire' moment -- NBA Jam style -- hitting heights of 6-10, 7-0, 7-1, 7-2 and 7-4.5 in consecutive leaps to win the Class 6A title and set a new Texas state record.
